Health & Physical Fitness/Training Thread

maybe?

Its more in the actual muscle itself it feels like. I have on new shoes with brand new insoles...but it could be.

caught a major cramp this morning in the same place...I had to stop and walk home. Kind of bummed about that.

Completed and passed my last AF pt test today!

Fwiw ShaunT's t25 series does work, almost 20lbs gone since September.

Yeah, since wed I'd say gained 10 back...easily.

Started training for my 1st half marathon this morning. My girl is running her 1st full marathon in NOLA in January so I am going to surprise her by running the half the same morning. She belongs to an awesome runners group she met on meetup.com with 200+ members. I volunteered at the Spacecoast Marathon this past weekend and just loved the support and comraderie that her running group had.

I'm no runner but as the year tick off the calendar, it's the only thing left that I can do without injuring myself.

You all on this thread are inspiring whether it's 10lbs or 200lbs we can all do better. I needed to start trying again.

Just gave the deck of cards workout a go. Hearts-squats, clubs-push-ups, diamonds-lunges, spades-burpees. Not a bad switch up when ya need one.

We used to do that workout against each other and then would have to compete who would finish first...that is a brutal workout

I don't know how people run in cold weather..it is only 50 here but my lungs burn REALLY bad after one mile and I have to stop due to it.

anyone have any tips?

Completed it with my daughter and we took about 1/2 hr. Jeebus it feels like rigor-mortis setting in already from the lunges.

I'm not sure I can relate since I just ran the other day because it was warm and sunny at 42 degrees. But my understanding of cold weather breathing difficulties is that it is often related more to the dryness of the air than the temperature. The recommendations I've seen are drinking water regularly during the run, wearing a balaclava, scarf, or surgical mask and breathing through it(probably not a good idea at 50 degrees), inhaling through the nose, or having your mouth mostly closed when you breathe to limit the moisture loss with each breath. And of course the standard slow down, shorten your run, do what you can and gradually build up to where you want to be over time.

Have you tried again? Has it gotten any better for you?

It burns..nose and throat alike. Dunno..I've just been Nutting up and doing it but it still makes me cough and hack like a smoker would.

2 years ago this time I weighed 256. I lost 52 pounds and felt great. Over the course of the last 12 months I have struggled to maintain 220...losing that struggle to get back to 240.

When I lost the weight it was about discipline. I eliminated sugar and wheat from my diet, eating mostly meat, veggies, fruit, nuts. I felt healthy and did not feel as much pain. Yeah, that's all out the window!

My goal is below 210 by June, 1. Time to give up the junk, again.

Another friend with a heart attack. He survived and is doing ok after surgery to install a pace maker. He's now out of the hospital. I've got to stay focused on health and do a better job with what I can control.

I hear ya SNF, been seriously slacking lately myself. Need to refocus on getting rid of the jiggly!

I'm on my 2nd week of trying to reclaim my body :) Trying to shed some weight before I get too strenuous. Riding a stationary bike for an hour every day after work. Eating not much more than a salad for lunch each day, and fish, vegetables, fruit at night, fresh fruit and nuts if I need a snack. I've dropped 6 or 7 lbs so far. Went out last Saturday and rode 17 miles on the bike. That's not much for me in terms of distance, but it was cold, and even that short distance taxed me. Have a long way to go, but I'm just going to keep grinding and it'll come.

I threw out my back a couple months ago, and ever since then, I've had a little right leg numbness. That is irritating to me. I'm hoping as I get stronger and lighter that it just goes away. It is tough getting older.

Bad backs are no joke. Mine is 'out of line' on a daily basis, complete with spasms. Don't have a bulging disc, that I know of but damn it's tough. My chiropractor puts me back in line like once a month. In between all I can do is stretch and work on core as much as possible. Wished I knew wtf causes it.

Good job on lbs lost, it's all you can do to grind away at it the best u can. I'm starting up T25 again while cutting calories as much as possible. Unfortunately I love my carbs tho, stupid aging and stuff.

So Boone have you ever had an mri or discogram done? Sounds like you def have a herniated disc, says Win4us Chiropractic Services

No - because every time that I've ever 'thrown out my back', it resolved on it's own. I am sure that I have some minor issues in terms of some bulging disks, but it is already getting better. I'm telling you, getting in shape, really getting in shape, cures a lot of ills. I get down 20-25 lbs or so, and exercise daily, I will be pain-free, numbness free, and (it goes without saying) dead sexy. And all will be right with the Universe.

Oh I hear ya on feeling better by dropping lbs. Last time I was trim I had so much damn energy along with less back pain. One of if not the only downside is sacrificing strength in doing that. That being said I need to lose around 20lbs to get back to that preferred range.

I had back problems my entire adult life (turns out roadie-ing Marshall amps by yourself before and after college gigs is a bad idea) ... and they were getting to where 2-3 times a year I'd "throw it out" doing something totally innocuous---simply twisting funny or even somehow sleeping wrong. When I got serious about 5 years ago and dropped the extra 40-50 pounds I'd accrued over the years, those issues suddenly just went away. Knocking on wood here, and I know it's not that easy in all cases, but I haven't had a real back issue since the weight came off. If ever there was a non-vanity reason to get/stay in shape (other than, you know, general health), that did it for me.

So ... haven't gone back and looked at this whole thread, but any of you good people have any experience with IF (Intermittent Fasting)?
