Health & Physical Fitness/Training Thread

Speaking of core work, did T25 ab intervals tonight. Holy shiz that's a good one!

Okay on one exercise Shaun made a fist and put it on a girls stomach to keep her abs tight. Then he's like "u don't want my fist to run thru ur stomach right?". Anyways my son was working out with me and was flailing on a section. I said "do it right or Shaun T will come and fist you! You don't want fisted by Shaun T do u?"

We had to pause it from laughing

Week 2 down of T25 workouts. Still a summonabitch yet just a tad easier to complete. Lost 6lbs week 1 but none this week.

I jumped on a treadmill Friday for the first time in over a month and 1.5 miles @ 5.5 was extremely easy!

I want to start a regular exercise/workout regimen.
My problem becomes the motivation/focus just to get started.
Once I get started it's actually easier to maintain, because seeing results provides the motivation to continue it.
But the physical/mental lethargy that comes with being physically inactive for so long makes the act of starting it, the most challenging.
ADD makes it even more of a struggle.

My goals are improving cardio/endurance, overall energy, and improving mood/focus, that comes with reviving those endorphin neuro-transmitters.

So, can anyone give me suggestions on stirring up the motivation of getting started.
I thought about hiring a personal trainer, but their prices are ridiculous. They average about $50/hr, and in no way is that worthy of what they do.
A workout partner would be cool, but I don't know of any prospects near me at the moment.
Do I just crank up my headphones with "Rocky" movie theme mp3's ?
Do I go up to the health food store, and get a huge cannister of Creatine Whoop Ass ?

Any other ideas ?

Fear, Im a believer in the Insanity series! The T25 series is fantastic if you have minimal space and time.

Not sure what the weather is like where you're at but regular running can do a lot for fat burning. I hate that shit though.

Thanks, the weather here isn't bad, there's just no place around here to run safely (safe as in being away from traffic, not crime-wise safety) , without driving to the location, or running in small circles in my neighborhood :)

This may or may not be a hypothetical scenario...

You're at a business conference in Sacramento: hotel gym or happy hour and mini bar????

So, I agreed to try this Paleo lifestyle thing. Very difficult at times with no Dairy, no cards, and no diet mt dew! lol anyway, it sucks and it isnt working. only lost 3 lbs in 3 weeks with nearly perfect adherence to the plan. I'm going back to just no carbs except veggies and I'll limit my dairy but not totally. I had great results doing that in the recent past.

the thing I see with these super strict "diets" is that they aren't full lifestyle changes. People will go back to sugar and carbs, and when that happens the weight will make its way back on. I think you have a better idea of doing it the way you are and not trying to cheat anything.

This was a staged photo with a green screen, but the Marines were great throughout the whole race, even though the 10K is the ugly step sister of the main event marathon, considering those runners run 20 miles and then run 10K. Obviously another race I'd recommend if you're in the area next year.

Unless my daughter an I can coordinate a race that we can both attend this fall, that was it for me. Now I'm going to have to rely on maintaining my lifestyle changes without the added motivation of a race in the near future.

I did the full last year. I'm still sore.

:) I believe it! I'd love to be able to train for and run the marathon but my knees continue to bring me back to my reality. The 10k was pushing it. As long as I back off and stay happy I'm out there at all, they don't make me pay for it nearly as much.

Just heard some guy using My Heart Will Go On at the gym.

The ****, man?

When I really want to feel the burn, I pump iron to Howard Jones.

Did a 5k this morning. 33:51. Finished 139 out of 500 males.

Upped my morning runs from 1.5 to 2 miles and it feels good. I am hoping that in a few months I will be able to run 5Ks as my morning run...that would be something HUGE for me.

Also have cut out all drinking until my birthday...on day 4 so far and I feel good. Once the toxins are all out I am sure the weight will just fall off as well. This is just something I am doing to show I can and for health...no major issues or incidents have occurred.

Just my opinion, but since you're active you really should be eating complex carbs in the AM and at lunch (then stick with protein and veggies for afternoon snack and dinner). If you ever watch The Biggest Loser they are not told to just eat protein and veggies; they incorporate a lot of complex carbs into their diets.

There is also a "carb cycling" strategy employed by Chris and Heidi Powell (2 trainers whom I really respect) that might be worth looking into. As far as I'm concerned, Paleo is crap because it isn't sustainable for the long term. You have to find something that you can consistently implement in your daily routine, long term for the "diet" or as I like to say insted: "healthy eating habits."

There is a book I like called "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" about good nutrition to lean out.

My motto is try as much as possible to stick to real foods or foods that are the least processed as possible. Some of complex carbs I like the most are whole grain brown or wild rice & whole grain or Barilla Protein Plus pasta, Red Mill grains like Oat Flour, Steel Cut Oats and Pancake mix. Don't cut out dairy completely, but try to minimize it. And stay as far away from sugar as possible (but occasional, moderate treats once or twice a week won't really hurt you).

Anyway, I'm not a registered dietician. My advice comes more from my experience throughout the years of involvement in the health and fitness scene. :)

So, I made it my first weekend with no booze. It's not really a physical withdraw from it that sucks but the "Friday night, lets get a beer" or "Sunday Football beers" that was really hard to push past. But the things I got done is amazing and the way I feel Monday morning is even better.

spoiled myself a little with some cookies and ice cream sunday night....but I was OK with it.

Today's run was 1.83 miles in 18:50. Felt good but my right knee down to my ankle gets this weird burning/tingling sensation in it sometimes. It goes away as soon as I stop and there is no lingering effect to it so I am not worried about ligament damage or tendon problems...I have full range of motion with ZERO pain now that I have new shoes.

Could it just be the weight coming down on it? Could there be something else that I am not educated enough on to know?
