Health & Physical Fitness/Training Thread

Heh. Yeah that's a LOT of exercising for me. :) This week I've been taking it much easier. A couple classes and one three mile run and that's it. Plus I'm eating all pasta all the time and drinking water like it's going out of style. At this point, two days out from the pre-test, I feel like I'm ready to run through a brick wall. If I survive Saturday, then I have to ramp it up for a few more weeks to get ready for June 7th.

After that I'm sitting on the couch and eating bon-bons. :D

Two days into P90X3 and I can honestly say that even though it is just 30 minutes, the original has nothing on it. Wow. I hurt...

However, I will get back on the horse sometime early this afternoon for Day 3 - X3 Yoga. Yeah...

Edit: So...yeah...then there was that. Only 30 minutes but man.

Tabata workout tonight, four rounds, four minutes each (20s on, 10s rest). Power cleans, burpees, dead lifts, and kettlebell swings. I've got lower back tightness and slight pain, but it's great because it's NOT SI pain. Love it.

Passed the pre-test. Bonked hard about and hour and a half in but managed to hang on until the water break and I chugged two bottles of water downed an energy gel. That carried me (barely) through the sparring. I really more survived the test than passed it. :)

I'll have to pick it up for the real test next month ... but not today. Today I nap.

So I heard there's a draft or something going on today? :)

Was introduced to Curtis P's tonight:

Hang squat clean
2 lunges
Push press

Those are fun!!

Nothing like getting your butt spanked by a high schooler in tennis to keep you humble... Granted, she's favored to win state in singles, but damn!

Anyone have any fun upcoming sport events, races, obstacle courses planned for this summer?

I've decided to enter a big northwest tennis tournament with my mixed doubles partner in July and am 148 days out from my first Tough Mudder in SoCal. I'm looking forward to both and am kicking my training into high gear by backing off of really heavy lifting and incorporating a lot more CrossFit, sprints/middle/long distance running and of course, tennis drilling and matches. I freaking LOVE all the sporting competition the good weather has to offer!

My 2nd Dan test is coming up a week from Saturday, so there's that. I weighed myself last night and the scale said 190. I've been 185-ish for two years now, and NEVER over 187. I'm telling myself I'm just bulking up (I have almost no experience adding muscle on purpose) because I've been doing 100 pushups and 100 leg lifts a day for the past two months, though to be perfectly honest all this working out has made me VERY hungry and I've been eating a lot. And with a week to go I can't afford to lose any weight, so I'm carb-loading this week and then after the test I'll start counting calories again.

Anyway, as long as I pass the test it's all good.

I wouldn't be surprised if a little of that is muscle and water retention related to resistance training :D At least that's what I always tell myself as I disregard the fact that like right now, I'm wolfing down Chinese takeout

Good luck with your Dan test, sounds a bit stressful...

I'm up in Minneapolis in July and a friend and I are doing a 5k together. Nothing like what you guys do, but I've been working on getting my fat ass into shape running with my wife and am having a blast. We are up to an easy two miles now in 18 minutes and should be adding the third mile in the next two weeks. I'm having a good time running with her, and tracking my progress.

Still doing weights at the Y, but my cardio is now running with her, about 4-5 times a week. I'll be under 200 in no time, for the first time since college.

James, yeah, I couldn't remember when your 5k was but I thought of you when I was asking the general question. Great job on all the running. I absolutely hate running and am slowly working my way back into running a mile at a time (I figured since I signed up for a 12-13 mi. obstacle race, I might need to get myself into good enough shape to run more than a couple miles at a time come race day, duuuurrr). So, I know how difficult it is to start from scratch with distance running and you get major kudos from me. You're gonna have to post a pic after your race! I'll post a pic after the Tough Mudder when I'm covered in mud

Goal that's pretty good time for 2 miles considering you're just starting to run. Awesome on the lbs lost as well, helps a ton to have a partner to keep you with it.

I got on the scale Wednesday and it called me fatass...literally. Currently 5'10" and 205 so I'm gonna see if Shawn T can assist with the T25 workouts. That and consult my hot trainer again for some diet tips.

How I feel lately

Welp, the big test is tomorrow morning. I've been taking it very light this week. Just warmups and stretching and that's it.

Yesterday I was going over my kicks and I felt a significant pain in the left hamstring. I didn't pull it, but it hurt. I've been icing is down and pounding the ibuprofen ever since but now I'm concerned that the thing's gonna pop during the test. The test that I've been working for four and a half years to get to.

I ****ing hate getting old.

Deadlifts on deadlifts on deadlifts last night. I counted 74 total. Legs and lower back feel surprisingly good this morning; I must be getting into better shape. :)

Good luck Henry and that wod looks like a bruiser LL.

I think I'll be doing pretty well if I make it through the ring dips.

With a 25 minute cap, that's 4 seconds per movement. Yikes.
