Born on this day in 1940 - Coach Gibbs is 83 today.

Happy Birthday to the greatest football coach I've ever been in the presence of! 🎂

My favorite Joe Gibbs moment was after he returned to Washington. The very first minicamp of the Joe Gibbs II era, I got to ask him (in my admittedly shaky nervous fan voice) the first question - and it was basically 'Washington fans have been wandering in the desert for a long time. What can you promise them as you take on this challenge?'

He spoke for 5 minutes.

What's your favorite Joe Gibbs moment?

Coach of my childhood, person who probably made me a fan, and the gateway to so many great memories.

I still contend Joe Gibbs making the playoffs twice during the Snyder years might make him one of the best coaches in NFL history.

The Monday Night Miracle.... the JOY he had on his face celebrating with his players after that game.

My first born child's name is Samuel Joseph. Mrs. CH was unaware at the time, but it was fully intended on my part to have Redskins greatness tied fully into the name. More so than any on the field moment, I always cherished the way Mr. Gibbs carried himself with class and humbleness, and the devotion he had towards his faith. He was a true man of character in every sense imaginable and the reason why I was so proud to call myself a Redskins fan. Happy birthday, Mr. Gibbs!

I was on the phone with Eric (Blade) after the 2nd touchdown. I think I woke up everyone in my house screaming that night. That's the Blade on the Star game.

IMO, The greatest coach in NFL history. The coach of my childhood and the guy who formed my "football head".

His greatest coaching feat IMO was taking a team of scab players into Dallas and beating a Dallas squad that had pro players that had crossed the picket line.

When I was in my early 20's, I had a job at a John Deere dealership in Wilkesboro NC. The Nascar Winston Cup Series still raced at North Wilkesboro back then and as a promotion, the dealership supplied the race track with the Gators(ATVs) for the garage area and drivers.
Wound up with garage passes for qualifying and got to go in and see guys like Richard Petty,Dale Earnhardt and got to meet Junior Johnson and Bill Elliott. But the best was Joe Gibbs....

Saw Joe standing at the end of the hauler and told my manager I got to go down there! It's Joe Gibbs! Made my way through the crowd and by the time I got there,Joe had disappeared into the hauler. A crew member was there and asked me what I was wanting and I told him I wanted to get Coach to sign my race ticket. The guy told me Coach was very busy right now and so I replied that I understood and I turned and walked away.
As I was making the walk up garage row, obviously disappointed, I heard a voice "Hey! Hey you!" I turned around and it was Coach Gibbs, with that big smile saying "Come back here! What can I do for you?".

Was on cloud nine the rest of that day and I joked with friends later that Coach would never leave a Redskins fan hangin'!

Happy Birthday Coach Gibbs!!

That’s lump in the throat stuff DP. And that’s why we’re friends.
