What are some of the most infamous Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins games in NFL history?

Here are a few of the most infamous Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins games in NFL history:

1. **Thanksgiving Day Massacre, 1974**: In this game, the Redskins took on the Cowboys at Texas Stadium. Down 16-3, and with Roger Staubach injured, backup quarterback Clint Longley came in and threw a late-game touchdown, giving Dallas the win.

2. **1972 NFC Championship Game**: The Redskins, led by coach George Allen and quarterback Billy Kilmer, beat the Cowboys, who were favored to win, 26-3 on their home turf. The Redskins went on to Super Bowl VII following this victory.

3. **1982 NFC Championship Game**: Known as the "Monk's Catch" game. Art Monk made a crucial catch to help the Redskins beat the Cowboys 31-17 and advanced to Super Bowl XVII, which they ended up winning.

4. **1991 Regular-Season Game**: This is considered by many to be one of the greatest Redskins victories over the Cowboys. The Redskins won the game 33-31, despite the Cowboys' comeback attempt in the fourth quarter.

5. **1999 Regular-Season Game**: This game is infamous for the time the Cowboys blew a 35-14 lead with less than four minutes left in the game. The Redskins managed to tie the game and then win with a field goal in overtime.

These games have been pivotal and memorable, signifying the intense rivalry that exists between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins. They are a reflection of the high competitive spirit that extends for decades in the NFL.

In more recent history I go back to 2005. Leading 28-0 at the half and then winning 35-7 on the way to the playoffs. I was there that night and it was glorious. I will even give Ron his due for the 2020 win over them on Thanksgiving. One of the few true bright spots of his tenure.

he managed to beat dallas twice that year did,nt he?

First one that comes to mind for me is the Monday night 1973 game where Dallas came back, but on fourth and goal, Ken Houston stops Walt Garrison less than a yard from scoring to seal the win.

I watched that game, as a young teen, at a friend’s house, because he had a cute sister.😉

first mnf game i was allowed to stay up and watch with my dad on the family color tv.

Bunch of old guys. Lol

First full game I saw was week 2 of 1971…Skins 30 NYG 3. The Over the Hill Gang started 5-0 and 53 years later I’m still hooked.

Most of the great ones have already been mentioned, but one of my earliest Redskins memories and if we were talking " infamous ", for me, it would easily be the last game of the '79 season.
We win, we're in.

Watching Riggins race 66 yards down the sideline to put us up 34 - 21, was a thing of beauty.

But then, ...

Disaster.

Staubach leads them back with two touchdowns, the second coming with 39 seconds to go.

We did however have another way to get into the playoffs. We just needed the Cardinals to not lose to the Bears by more than 34 points.

The Bears beat the Cardinals 42 - 6.

The '82 season championship game was sweet, sweet revenge.

remember it well .one of the reasons i hate and loathe dallas

The list starts with the 2 NFC Championship games as they were far more important than a MNF game in October. I was 13 in 1972 and we all know what sports means to a 13 year old boy. Unfortunatly I was visiting my dad who was living in Malaysia and missed that game. Yep missed Hurricane Agnus the summer before for the same reason,.

But the 1982 NFC Championship Game, now that was one of the most exciting things of my entire life.

itt was pretty special, but that entire season was.

i yelled and woke my 9 year old son at the time up.
Was my one and only trip to Texas Stadium. Had a friend who had moved to Dallas the year before for work, so me and the boys went down for that game. Great tailgating with a Redskins fan group from Plano. It was about 97 degrees that day, and if you’ve never been there, the concourse at Texas Stadium is asphalt. Even after the sun went down, we were still baking. Drank a LOT of beer that night, and barely caught a buzz. When we got back to my friend’s house, I took off my jersey, and had an inch thick salt ring around the chest of my t-shirt.

One thing that surprised us was the amount of Redskins fans that were there. We travel well.

Our seats were in the end zone away from where Moss scored. We were on our feet for the fourth down play, and when Brunell threw it, my buddy and I just groaned, because it looked from our view that nobody was gonna get it, then BAM, Santana outta nowhere.

Many forget the next drive by the Cowboys, but on 3rd down, they threw a slant that looked good for the first down, but Sean Taylor came in looking to wreck the receiver, and he dropped it. On Santana’s second TD, after Brunell threw that pass, my buddy and I could see Santana running behind the defense, and simultaneously lifted our arms for the touchdown before he even caught it.

Absolutely one of the best nights of my life. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was falling asleep on the couch and just happened to wake up for TD1

I woke up my wife when Moss hit the 2nd long td. Back then she still had some interest, that is slowly returning. After it was over I backed up the last 5 minutes or whatever it was and she said "are you sure they won this game?"

That Dallas game was in the first season of ES being owned by the Redskins. I did a ton of sidelines coverage during that stretch, but when it came to the marquee games like Dallas, usually the site owners did those. I will never forget that game. My family including my 2 young kids, were already asleep. I'm watching and after the first TD, my phone rings. It's Blade who is there taking sideline photos. When Moss caught the 2nd TD pass, he was screaming into my phone. Of course, I couldn't hear him, because I was screaming in my living room, so loudly I woke the whole damn house up. To my absolute pride, my young boy looked at my wife and said 'Wedskins winnin'....'. He knew.

After that game, Blade had someone take an amazing shot of him dancing on the Dallas star.... I've got it somewhere....lol
