GAME THREAD: SKINS/lions--Shave the Lions!

Oh my goodness ...

Kevin Smith, who has been averaging 2.6 yards a carry this year, is running for 7.7 ypc today ...

Well I guess there's only one thing to wonder about now. Who will Shanahan take as our QB of the future with our top 5 draft pick next spring?

A half yard short again.

Wow.

We've got some work to do to get Opera, Google Chrome, other browsers working in there. I'm bumping it up on the priority list since we're getting a lot of chat room use these days...

People kept pointing to talent gaps.

The biggest gap this team has (before all the injuries today) is it's lack of intensity.

The defense looked disinterested those first two drives today.

The Lions went 99 yards on a defense that was crowing it has the players to be top 5?

If the Dolphins could go from 1-15 to 11-5 and the Jets could go from 1-15 to 9-7 under Parcells in one offseason, it seems clear that LEADERSHIP and confidence in that leadership is an important component of being able to win in the NFL.

This is not the NHL or NBA where 1 player can set the tone by himself.

That's why COACHING is a lot more important in the NFL.

Coaching can make the difference between being an also-ran and being a playoff team in the age of parity.

There are 3-4 teams above all the rest in terms of talent, and a large factor in the success of those other 28 teams is the ability of the coaching staff to get their players ready to play each week both physically and mentally.

The Redskins to me are shot mentally. This team's fragile psyche has them in prime position to be blown out.

Drive chart for Detroit:

3:51 DET 15 6 plays 13 yards Punt
5:50 DET 1 12 plays 99 yards Touchdown
5:26 DET 6 11 plays 74 yards Field Goal
6:53 DET 6 18 plays 86 yards Field Goal

The Redskins are sleepwalking through this game. Three weeks and it looks like they've given up already.

During the half-time show, Michael Strahan said it looked like the Redskins quit. Hard to disagree with that assessment.

TD Moss.

Now we'll see how fragile Detroit's psyche is.

Zorn has the rest of this half IMO to save his season.

With the backend of the schedule this team will not survive a loss here.

For all those that put down the TB and KC games as sure wins, please re-evaluate.

These other clubs may not have dominant talent but they play harder than the Redskins do.

Anyone notice there is no pressure on Stafford?

Forget Haynesworth, Blache needs to rush the kid up the middle with Fletcher and the safety or Stafford is going to make plays with his arm.

Like the completion to CJ down field that got called back. Billick was stating it was something that Staford had to overcome. Even though it was called back, I think it is a boost because he now knows he can make that pass because he has that protection!

Agreed. This 2nd half will either be a starting point for us getting it together, or a death knell.

I'm a big believer that until a team is mathmatically eliminated, a season can always be turned around and no one week is a 'must win'. But I don't think that applies to our Redskins.

This is a must win.

what's really concerning (beyond the score) is how similar Campbell and Stafford look.

both of them have failed to hit open receivers because they didn't throw with the necessary arc on the ball. both of them have thrown into traffic a bit, potentially flirting with disaster. and both have been inconsistent on third down.

the problem? Stafford is a flat rookie in his third game. Campbell is a 28 year old, in his fifth NFL season.

We should be further along than this. Second year for Zorn and Campbell?

Sanchez seems to be doing OK transitioning to a new system as a 22 year old with only one year of starting experience in college.

I really expected to see Zorn and Campbell work hand in glove this season and be one of the strengths of the team.

That in my mind was the chance Zorn had to come back in 2010.
