GAME DAY - Preseason Week 2 vs JETS

Lol Gruden got pissed over the call and decided to take it out on the Jets.

Looks like Kelly can block too, knocked the crap outta the defender coming in free on Colt.

Even if Jones bounces back I think you still need a Pierre Thomas to come in during the season and be a veteran insurance policy as both runner and backfield receiver as Matt and Chris Thompson are not yet proven commodities.

So Jones gets hurt ...

I generally like what McLovin has done but I just dont understand the thinking surrounding the running game. Its almost like we are actively trying to suck at it.

Great game.

The blocking was improved, the running game was much better, McCoy was sharp and the defense was impressive. Ross was also big.

I'd like to see us give our younger RBs a look before rushing out and signing a vet......but we'll see what McLovin thinks.

Need a lot of depth back there. Guys get hurt or even just dinged up here and there; someone's got to be around to step in and at a level at least close to the guy being backed up. Change of pace guy and so on. I thought they might of kept Thomas at least into camp this year. He can block, run, catch. Even if he's not playing he's a veteran presence. But if not him maybe someone that gets cut elsewhere can fill the void.

Banking on what that other guy may or may not do is not a good practice, though. So Jones won't go next week no matter what. If it goes on longer than that I guess it leaves Thompson as the presumptive #1at least experience wise. He's got 3 years under his belt as do all of the other Redskin RBs. Combined. That doesn't guarantee the end of the world because maybe someone steps up & they're covered. If Jones stays out 2 weeks he'll only have a handful of touches heading into the season but he should be OK for the last preseason game unless there is a fracture to go along with it or severe ligament damage.

Anyway, not a warm & fuzzy back up plan in place at the moment.

Preseason means nothing.

Except for one thing.

Injuries.

Tonight was a bad night.

How do we go into the pre-season like this? How did we think Jones, Thompson, and a bunch of nobodies was a good plan? Is it a huge shock Jones is hurt? Did he have a history of durability up to this point?

Tompson is going to snap in half if he has to start a whole game. We will need to start thinking about bringing in some warm bodies. My confidence in our RB corps has not improved ...
