Need a lot of depth back there. Guys get hurt or even just dinged up here and there; someone's got to be around to step in and at a level at least close to the guy being backed up. Change of pace guy and so on. I thought they might of kept Thomas at least into camp this year. He can block, run, catch. Even if he's not playing he's a veteran presence. But if not him maybe someone that gets cut elsewhere can fill the void.
Banking on what that other guy may or may not do is not a good practice, though. So Jones won't go next week no matter what. If it goes on longer than that I guess it leaves Thompson as the presumptive #1at least experience wise. He's got 3 years under his belt as do all of the other Redskin RBs. Combined. That doesn't guarantee the end of the world because maybe someone steps up & they're covered. If Jones stays out 2 weeks he'll only have a handful of touches heading into the season but he should be OK for the last preseason game unless there is a fracture to go along with it or severe ligament damage.
Anyway, not a warm & fuzzy back up plan in place at the moment.
