Fore!!! The Golf Thread

I have a 10 year old Taylormade Spyder. I love it and I doubt I will ever buy another putter. It was candy apple red when I bought it but the paint on it quickly started chipping off so one day I took a pocket knife and removed all of the paint. I think the metallic finish just looks cool as hell. I'm a pretty solid putter so I have no reason to replace it.
OMG, so weird you mention putters...I had an ancient Dead Center. I sunk a 40-footer at an Applebee's classic one season (4-man best ball). We did the SportsCenter "dan dah" thing!
Those were always fun tourneys!!!

Left my whole bag behind in the move, wish I woulda kept that putter.

Anybody say putters? Think I’ve got 7 in the garage now, since I pared down when moving to the island by getting rid of about a dozen. Bought the Odyssey Jailbird last year, and LOVE it! Might even last 3-5 years in my bag🤷‍♂️

I almost did yesterday. Putters are my weak spot. I bought a new Ping blade last year for about the same price as a new driver. I made every putt with it in the store where I bought it. Unfortunately, that didn't translate to the course. Matter of fact, it sucked on the greens. It appears that the toe is heavier than the heel or vise versa.

I played 3 rounds with it before retiring it and going back to my Scotty Cameron. I probably have 8 or so putters now.

I've learned a hard lesson. I only own one putter! A nice Scotty, but got rid of the others (an Odysey and Ping blade) once I spent that kind of money. I'm on year 6 of clubs, soon time to shop.

Speaking of putters…I played with blade putters for many years, until, at the urging of my PGA club pro brother to try the new weight balancing putters. So, I bought a Ping G2 Craz-E. Loved that putter, and still have it. I called it my potato masher.

Days after I got it, I was playing with an older gentleman who was a good stick, and after a few holes he asked if he could see my new putter. He told me that he had worked years for Wilson in golf club development and sales. Said years ago they had brought on a newly graduated engineer from MIT to help with design. He designed a putter very similar to the one I had just purchased, and when the VP saw the design, told the young engineer, “Son, I couldn’t sell a putter that looks like that even if I gave away free blow jobs with it!”

That Craz-E does look crazy. I have a couple of Odyssey mallet putters which I've liked over the years, but I keep coming back to blades. For me the longer handle is preferred. I get as close to my belly without anchoring.

Yeah, I’ve gone to the 38” putter myself. I putt in a very upright stance, and at 6’2” that length helps. Also it’s counter-balanced.

I started crouching like Nicklaus and I can see the line better when I do. My touch has improved also.

Hey Boone, was wondering if you were considering a BGO golf outing in conjunction with a home Commies game? I might be able to get us on Swan Point, as a good friend is the pro there.

I am getting a persistent bug to play again after far too many years. All of my eq is back in Florida so I will have to wait until winter. I am voraciously going through YT videos though. 🤣

I have dated but high quality (at the time) clubs that are still in vg condition, good enough to see if this interest is real or fantasy before dropping a bundle on new technology eq. This may pass or maybe it won’t, we’ll see. My back might very well tell me ‘nice idea but FU’. It’s a bit daunting to think that an engineering degree is now needed with new club selection.

Welp...it was hot out there today. Damn hot!!
Look at what I found. Figures.
Did I mention it was hot??

I submitted my ‘ballot’ yesterday (lottery system entry) for tickets to the 2027 Open Championship at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Apparently registering with a Master Card (sponsor) gives one a leg up. The ‘winners’ are supposed to be notified in August/September.

Good luck with that. We've been on the Masters waiting list for 10 years now with no call yet.

The Masters tickets an estimated 35-40k ‘patrons’ per day Thursday through Sunday. The Open is expected to surpass 290,000 attendees at Royal Birkdale this week. Hopefully that will make a difference. If not, I will spend that boatload of cash elsewhere. 780€ for two entry tickets each on Saturday & Sunday alone, plus airfare, rental car, and undoubtedly pumped-up accommodation prices will add-up quickly.

The practice rounds are what I'm interested in.

Official Masters practice round tickets are only available directly through the Masters Ticket Lottery. The application window typically runs from June 1 through June 20 for the following year's tournament, and winners are notified in July. [1, 2, 3, 4]
If you were not selected in the official lottery, your only other option is to purchase practice round badges on the secondary resale market. [1, 2, 3]

Key details for practice round access:
    • Face Value Prices: Monday and Tuesday practice rounds are $125, and Wednesday (which includes the Par-3 Contest) is $150.

The wife and I are playing Locust Hill today. The weather is going to be beautiful too. A high of 78F and plenty of sunshine.

Was supposed to golf this afternoon but we are waterlogged here in NC. My golfing buddy doesn't do cart path only. Good day to work in the garden while it's a little cooler.

Bummer. I'm in a golf league on Thursday afternoons after work. We play 9 holes on a small city course, near Camden yards. If not for the league, I probably wouldn't play at all. Another reason I can't wait to retire....more time to golf. My retired buddies are always bugging me to play during the week...

It wasn't that long ago that most of the good courses did cart path only, at least around here. I remember playing alone, having a big walk to my ball down the right side, shanking my 5 iron layup and being so pissed off that I had to walk 100 yards uphill to get my to cart only to drive it 50 yards before another 75 yard walk to my ball and then another 75 back to the cart.
