Foods you like that most people hate

I didn't say I've never tried raw hamburger, I just wouldn't make a habit of it :) And I don't know what 'black' or 'blood pudding' is yet :)

Not good is what it is! It's a very popular dish in Appalachia, one of my grandfather's favorites. I think it is quite disgusting! My mom still loves it though.

It's basically sausage that's made with animal blood in it. I personally think the best flavor is when it's made with goose blood, but it's all personal preference.

I will try to describe the flavor as best I can......imagine combining scrapple with that iron taste you get when you bite into a rare/medium rare burger or steak. I know a lot of people who hate it without trying it, just because of the ingredients. Of all the people I've talked to that have actually tasted it, most all love it.

It's getting people to give it a shot that's a chore :D

Hmmm...I can't think of anything crazy I eat that other people don't. Much of what has been listed doesn't seem that crazy to me.

I will admit though that I don't like liver (although liverwurst is OK, as is pate), cabbage (in almost all it's forms including brussel sprouts and cole slaw; red cabbage is OK), creamed baby onions, okra (especially boiled as it just becomes slimy dreck), and chickens feet.

I've tried various things like tongue, sweet breads, etc and they've all been good even if I don't eat them regularly. I guess I don't think of things like sashimi, eel, kimchi, etc to be weird (maybe because I eat them fairly regularly as I work for a Korean company and Annandale, which is close by, is full of Korean places that we frequent). Octopus is good if prepared properly as Boone said (I've had it well prepared in both Greek and Spanish styles).

Never had any form of blood sausage or anything like haggis. Some of the weird food I found abroad I was not brave enough to try (e.g., starfish, scorpions, silkworm cocoons, various insects). I did try sea cucumber and it was OK.

I had rattlesnake one time when I was about 10 in the Boy Scouts. I remember liking it, but I can't say for certain whether that's because I liked it, or because eating a rattlesnake seems badass when you're a kid.

I've had kangaroo several times and love it, it's one of my favorite meats. The only time I ever had any insects of any kind was at the Border Station in North Carolina back in the 80's when they sold chocolate covered grasshoppers in the gift shop. I remember those being good, but it could have been from the chocolate.

A couple times a year my mom would make an orange jello with finely shredded carrots and pineapple chunks. Other than my dad and I every one cringed at the idea of the carrots in the jello.

In the spirit of the season, I absolutely love a good fruitcake. The Claxton version (from here in GA) is nowhere near good, but with some Coolwhip & hazelnut coffee...🤷‍♀️

I've always liked fruitcake (in small doses) - even the candied fruit dense-as-a-brick variety. But I'm weird like that.

When I lived in Hawaii, I discovered it's like a state favorite with the locals. I mean, I've had it stir-fried there!

I lived in Japan for over 10 years and had sushi/sashimi probably 1000 or more times so I don't really consider that weird but you have to be brave to eat this in the US.

Many restaurants here in the US just keep using their sushi until it's sold. So it's just not that fresh. Maybe they freeze it too. The one we go to gets their fresh fish on Monday. It was like that in Norfolk, San Diego too so that is probably the best day for going out to get sushi.

In Japan they throw it away after 1 day. If it's not sold on that 1 day it's in the trash or at the grocery store they discount it from like 10 bucks to 1.50 at 7pm so the best time to get sushi is at the big supermarket at night. You can get a ton of it for 5 bucks.

The weird thing that I ate was Dinuguan in the Philippines. I wasn't told that it was anything weird but somebody gave me a bowl of it and I loved it and was chomping it down and then my wife was laughing at me because I guess most people don't eat it.

It's blood with meat but they put a lot of lime and hot peppers in it and it was awesome.

The one thing I didn't try was Balut. My wife would eat 3 of them and I just couldn't drink enough to want to put an aborted duck in my mouth.

I remember Fear Factor having balut one time as a challenge and my wife (who is American Filipina ) was smh at the inbred idiots making a big deal out of it.

Imo hotdogs are a 100x worse product but we're so desensitized to them. And/or people are just generslly ignorant what parts they're actually eating. 😆

I don't know man. That Balut is pretty gnarly. I saw feathers, a beak and crunchy parts like bones.

No thanks!

At least a hot dog it's basically puree mystery meat. Might be spiced brains and scrotum but you'll never know that lol.

For some reason I keep getting an error message when I try to quote skinsmarydu. I'd just like to add that fruitcake gets a bad rap. My mother in law made a great one but for some reasons people look at fruit cake like it's a Log Roll from Stuckey's and it's so much better than that.

Try quoting her but delete any emoji included.

Yeah, the quote feature won’t work if there’s an emoji in what you are quoting - thank you Chris
