ESPN: Shanahan was ready to quit in '12

JLC now reporting/speculating that Art Briles is the front runner for the new HC position.
 
IMO Shanahan will likely finish the season, after all from Snyder 's perspective the case becomes more telling with each mounting loss.

Shanahan is helping fire himself.

Yes, also worried that Snyder makes some boner move for a college coach or Zorn type.

I think that would be a disaster in waiting. I much prefer the Jay Gruden route you referred to. I just don't see Gruden wanting any part of the Skins.
 
There is plenty of blame to go around between Shanahan and Snyder. We can replace Shanahan, but stuck with Snyder.
 
So who's in charge of cleanup around here after you guys and Snyder burn the team to the ground?

Nothing will ever be built here if you keep burning the house down every time the walls go up because a couple of nails are crooked.

Just because we are concerned who the next hire may be doesn't mean that Shanahan doesn't deserve to be fired.
 
I'd like to see them explore a few different directions in addition to Briles. His offense got destroyed last weekend.
 
I don't know who should be the coach or when Shanahan should be fired, or anything else at this point. I will say that this, from the comments section of Deadspin's 'Why your teams sucks' is just so accurate, now in more ways than one, that all I can do is shake my head in disbelief as to how quickly this team has fallen apart.

Remember that one kid in school who was popular only because he had money and nobody ACTUALLY enjoyed spending more than 30 seconds in his presence? And everyone was just about to wash their hands of him completely but then his folks got him a Camaro for his 16th birthday? And then everyone wanted to hang out with him again, right up until the point where he wrapped the Camaro around a telephone pole, at which point everyone felt justified in just writing him off as a complete dipshit for good?

The Redskins are that kid and Robert Griffin III is our Camaro.

2 Texas reporters are out on twitter saying "There's no way Art Briles would ever leave the state of Texas to work for Dan Snyder."

So we've got that going for us.

Add Bruce Feldman of CBS to that list:


"Few things should be surprising in coaching world but I'd be really, really surprised to see Briles leave State of TX to work for Dan Snyder."
 
If a coach is hired by Snyder...again, we will be here again in 3 or 4 years. We need a GM to run the team like Shanahan was the last 4 years.

I don't know why so many if you are giving Shanahan a pass and blaming Snyder.

Shanahan hasn't won a playoff game since 2005.

His defenses have consistently been poor.

Seems Bohlen was right to thank Mike and move on.

From what I understand Shanahan's downfall came in 2001 when he won a power struggle and the personnel chief that helped him assemble the SB teams retired.

After that the core of winners from his title teams retired or left in free agency and were never adequately replaced.
