The probability is that the team was going to get a late round pick or have to release him.

I understand in sports there have been idiot owners like Ted Stepien that traded 5 consecutive #1 picks for ‘dog’ players but that’s a low chance.

Sort of like stepping outside your door and getting hit by a meteor.

Kevin Sheehan has been pushing back on that in his tweets. Basically says 'Gruden was allowed to eventually fire RG3 too - but that didn't detract from the dysfunction of how they reached that point'. In other words, nothing has changed.

Eventually, yes. However, Haskins has been here for less than 2 years, and Riveria here for less than 1. Sheehan can push back all he wants, I still disagree. A first-year HC/GM releasing a first-round guy with 2-3 years left on his rookie deal before the season even ends is a statement.

Have you seen some of the QBs that have bounced around the league? It's unlikely that we would have gotten anything for him now but i have no doubt that had he not stepped back onto the field after his first benching this season, someone gives us something. 5th or a 6th.

The question then becomes whether there will (while Rivera is running things) be future personnel acquisitions made by Dan. If not, then things have changed, we are just seeing the end of the previous way of doing business. So it remains to be seen whether things have in fact changed.

Given that a practice squad reject out of football a couple weeks ago shredded prevent while Haskins couldn't shred anything pretty much ended whatever trade value, if any, Haskins had. Cutting him was the only solution.

Or even prior to the season. QBs are held at such a premium, even bad ones (Josh Rosen, for example) have trade value. And there are always OCs who think that they hold the magic to solve a physically talented QB's problems. Haskin has one hell of an arm. If someone thinks they can rewire that brain through his thick skull, they very well might've given up something for him.

Griffin had the one pro bowl, ROY campaign in 2012 and that’s what made it tough for Snyder to move on from him - Snyder didn’t understand the injury ended Griffin’s ability to be effective in the NFL as an RPO qb.

Haskins never won anything here. His best performances were 250-300 yard games filled with bubble screens and first read short passes.

In those games he had say 295 yards but only 1 touchdown and the team lost.

Haskins’ yards per attempt is just pathetic.

The problem is that work ethic is a bigger problem in the room than mental health, off-field addictions, etc for coaches. The verdict on Haskins was made on draft day years ago. Many teams may have had a no touch grade on him then.

Someone would have traded for him... nothing can convince me otherwise. Coaches fall in love with big arms, the same way baseball managers fall in love with 98 mph fastballs with movement. The guy could be a headcase or couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, the heat speaks. Someone would have given up a late pick to take a shot on him.

I'm not sure any coach has ever had 'total control' SO - regardless of what their contract said. I think that's part of what Sheehan is implying. Bottom line, I think it's an assumption (and a pretty big one) if the takeaway from today is that Dan has 'learned his lesson'. Snyder will never learn imho - because he doesn't think there is anything he NEEDs to learn. He enjoys manipulating, bullying, and pulling the puppet strings. That's who he is - and it's not going to change, whether Ron Rivera is in charge, or Jesus Christ himself.

I think you're missing the point Bulldog. The ship may have sailed on compensation - but that wasn't necessarily the case 6 months ago, or even 2 months ago prior to this latest stretch of non-stop drama. And of course getting a late round pick is better than releasing him. Whether it's a franchise impacting pick is irrelevant. The point is we waited until his value was completely devalued. By anyone's standards, that's just plain incompetence.
