I am kind of shocked. At least hold him one more week and see what trade there is for him.

Maybe this is how Ron backtracks not benching him yesterday?

I think it sucks to have ended this way, but this is best move for the team. What are the financial implications to the team?

I confess I'm surprised. I know a lot of folks, even media types, were calling for it, but I'm still surprised. What did Dwayne do in the Panther's game to warrant getting dumped that we hadn't already seen?

He played poorly.

That's about it as far as I could tell. He had that weird 'rush on to the field' moment (some could view that as some kind of passive aggressive thing, but at least according to Haskins he was trying to be supportive). There was him leaving the facility without giving a press conference thing.

It became clear very early on that Haskins was never going to be 'the guy' in a Ron Rivera locker room. They should have traded him, for whatever they could get, long ago. Just strikes me as weird that now, with a game to go, you do it.

All that being said, it is the right move. Nothing personal against Haskins. I do think he's got a lot of growing up to do. He will likely explain away his failures in DC and cast blame on others, and his agents and the people around him will enable those rationalizations. I hope at some point he realizes that only hard work, selflessness, humility, and honest self-assessment get us to where we want to be in life.

They should have traded him, for sure. Someone would want him for whatever reason.

We need to recoup some of our money if we can.

But, yes. I agree it was the best move for all parties involved.

I doubt this is a make up for not benching him. You play who you think gives you the best chance to win that game. Too much riding on it. I can't imagine anyone trading for him. This removes the distraction. Ron only has to address this once. "We've moved on, nothing more to say". The week becomes about nothing but winning this weekend.

It's simple why they chose to cut him.

He doesn't do his job.

That's a greater "crime" than being a cokehead or even closet gangster murderer who does do his job.

Why the hell would ANY team trade for a player who won't do work? The ideal mental backup is a Todd Collins. Someone who obsessively learns the game like he is starting even though he realizes he's physically not all up there with real starters.

There is no trade market. Hell, with Patriots coaching spawn throughout the league, do you think a team that repeats "DO YOUR JOB" is going to hire a guy who doesn't?

When Russell Wilson's journey is basically the antithesis of Haskins? Wilson had to deal with beating out a QB Seattle gave a lot of money to and was intended to start. He beat Flynn out as a rookie.

I mean, RG III has been on 3 teams now. Someone will always need a scout rep QB and clipboard holder.

There's no trade market NOW - that's for damn sure. But we likely could've gotten a mid to late round pick for Haskins in the offseason. I think, unfortunately, Snyder likely made 'giving Dwayne a chance at starter' a precondition to the Rivera hire. Does anyone seriously doubt that that was the case?

Rivera likely watched every second of Haskins college and NFL career before ever considering the Washington job - and he damn well knew that Haskins was not NFL starter material. In a normal organization, RIvera (or a GM if we had one) would've been given full authority to trade Haskins in the offseason (or even after they went to Allen/Smith) for whatever they could get for him. Instead we managed to undermine whatever value Haskins potentially had by letting him publicly struggle and fail for another 2 months.

Of course, in a normal organization, the owner doesn't overrule his entire Scouting Dept and Front Office and impose his idea of who should be drafted on them. :)

Are you really going to hold up an NFL team and it’s development to keep a guy just to get a conditional #6 or #7 for him next April?

In business if you have someone that is a net drag on bottom line performance with clients and shows no signs of improvement then you cut them loose.

for one more week? Yes. Why wouldn't you?

you are also assuming all we can get is a 6th or 7th. Someone might want to take a risk on him and give us higher.

But, now you don't know because you just cut him outright.

So it it just me, but having just lost your NFL gig, you change your Twitter profile pic to Goku in the healing tank from Dragon Ball Z?

I mean - that's more like 'Latoya broke up with me in 3rd grade' stuff, no?

Certainly makes a statement though, both to the outside world and to the players. This is not SOP for a Snyder run org which kind of makes you wonder if this is still a Snyder run org.

Dream on.

Nobody was going to give Washington a pick before the sixth round for a guy that never had a signature game in the NFL.

If Dwayne had one or two performances where he really showed playmaking ability perhaps that would have been enough for a team to take a chance.

But his best games were largely cast against the backdrop of the 5-6 yard pass to the running back or bubble screen.

Teams don’t pay quarterbacks to make these basic throws.

That’s expected at this level.

Kevin Sheehan has been pushing back on that in his tweets. Basically says 'Gruden was allowed to eventually fire RG3 too - but that didn't detract from the dysfunction of how they reached that point'. In other words, nothing has changed.

Dream on?

So, you KNOW for a fact what was going to be given to him? Shoot, you are wasting your talents here on BGO then if thats the case.

Good. Sooner than I anticipated. I agree with Neophyte that it sends a message.
