DRAFT DAY (3)

I think we're underestimating this draft - I'm not sure we've drafted anyone yet that doesn't have a strong chance of making the team. That's not been our past history. I think there is a LOT to be excited about and color me impressed with the effort.
 
@Redskins get great value with perhaps the most explosive RB in the draft with L. Seastrunk in the 6th Rd - Legit explosion & Home run speed

7th round is where good teams find depth and special teams.

All I keep hearing about is how much talent there is going to be with this year's UDFA...what good is an extra 7th round pick when there will be so much talent in the undrafted class.

I really can't understand why there is so much consternation when we question certain moves? We've been doing it for years. I am not an NFL exec, but this forum is supposed to be about differing points of view. I do not like trading down in the 6th round when the only thing we get is another 7th round pick out of it. Morris in the 6th is your response Boone? Can you say anomaly?

You want to know how I really feel about this draft?

2nd round - Trent Murphy: I like him. I was not a fan of hearing we'd draft an OLB with our second round pick, but seeing some of the players taken around him, he looks like a solid player. The kid looks like a baller.

3rd round - Morgan moses: I do not know. I am glad we addressed the OL, but I simply don't know enough to say one way or the other. From the limited research I did, there seems to be better players out there.

3rd round - Spencer Long: He looks like we could plug him in right away...if he's healthy. Law of averages tells us we have to hit on one of the injured players with 1st or 2nd round talent players that slipped because of injury. Reports are his injury is not career threatening. I like him!

4th round - Bashaud Breelen: Not a fan of troubled players but reports suggest he is a solid player and we got value...ok, I'll take it. He could see a lot of playing time this year.

5th round - Ryan Grant: Wish we'd have taken and ILB here, but if he graded out as a player we wanted...good bye Moss, Hankerson and/or Robinson. Not crazy about taking a WR, especially when there were others grading better.

6th round - Lache Seastrunk: RB? Really? Do we really need an RB more than an ILB? I hate it!

We'll see where the 7th round takes us, but with all those players drafted today, do you see much Special Teams play from them? Is Seastrunk or Grant one of those speedy return men we need so badly? Are either of them a coverage guy in special teams? I don't see it, but what do I know?

What really gets tiresome is the amount of homerism I continue to see. There are guys on this board suggesting we can compete for the division. Really? Not buying it.

I was completely lamb basted last year for suggesting we weren't going to be very good...I picked 6-10/7-9...maybe 8-8 with a slim chance to win division since it was so poor. You guys pummeled me for suggesting it calling me a negative nancy. Well?

I like some of our picks, I don't like others. It's not all doom and gloom, just a realistic criticism as I see it.

Running back is not a need, but I'm giving the Redskins an "A" for value. Lache Seastrunk could have easily been chosen in the third round. He fell because of the perception that he can't catch passes, but the Baylor offense didn't ask him to do that. He looked good in the receiving drills at the Combine, so it's ridiculous that he slipped this far.

He might have fallen this far because he hasn't really played that much. Lost a year of eligibility when he transferred out of Ore to Baylor. So, maybe he has fresh legs? Looking at the silver lining part
 
Alright now I want us to draft Michael Sam. Then again Harry Reid may find something offensive about it.

Him, Murphy, Ryan and Rak all rushing the passer sounds good to me.
 
I'm not passive or aggressive.

I'm just stating you can't please everyone. You are obviously one of those on the not pleased side.

Michael Sam has a great first step but he's a situational pass rusher at best. He can't cover at all so you have to make sure you think he's better than Rob Jackson or Brandon Jenkins before you even think about him. If that's what the FO thinks then I would have no problem taking a flyer on him.
 
With a 7th round pick I'd take a chance he comes in with a chip on his shoulder and drive enough to improve and learn.

Yeah at this point I'm thinking strictly teams and occasional back up. Most likely PS material but ya never know. Dude probably has a huge chip on his shoulder to keep him driven too.
 
Still holding out hope that we can get Daniel McCullers in the 7th...

Wasn't keen on two of their picks yesterday, but the #Redskins have hit two homeruns today with Breeland and Seastrunk.

JohnssBass and I briefly discussed this in chat. We're obviously not privvy to all the red flags on these guys that have dropped but that's what I'm guessing the case is. There must be either health concerns, character concerns or maybe even failed drug test concerns that are dropping these guys down the boards. Looks like Tiny, McCullers, Anthony Johnson from LSU, Seantrel Henderson and, perhaps, Christian Jones and Marcus Roberson fall into this category.

I'm sure there are talent/fit concerns as well, especially with guys like Michael Sam and Dion Bailey.

The SEC defensive player of the year? Yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he doesn't totally suck.
 
Sounds to me like the only assessments that aren't okay at BGO are positive ones Brian? Don't even imply that we've ever tried to get everyone in intellectual lockstep here.

We have a lot of needs - you're right - and we're not going to fill every one of them in the first draft of a rookie head coach. That's the whole point when reaching the later rounds. You can draft 'need' all you want, but if the guy you 'need' lacks the talent to compete for a roster spot it's a pointless exercise. We've drafted talent AT need positions for the vast majority of the draft. I'm not sure what folks are bitching about.

And who said I was addressing you to begin with :)
