Digitizing DVDs

I have a medium sized DVD collection that I would like to store on an external hard drive instead of multiple book shelves. Anyone have any advice on how to accomplish this?

There are a few softwares out there they can do it - I will ask my buddy who's been doing it for years and get back to you.

I believe you can also take them to Walmart and they'll do it (for a fee, of course), but I could be wrong about that.

My buddy recommends slysoft anydvd for ripping.
