Del Rio Fired

The fact it took this long is the issue, we all knew by week 5 this defense wasn't performing at levels even remotely close to acceptable.

Our recent history has suggested slow starts and strong finishes with the Defense. I assume there was a period of time where they were hopeful it would just turn a corner.
Now it's obvious that isn't happening. (Some would say it's been obvious for a while!)
I also think they would have preferred to let the season play out and do all the housekeeping then, but this has been such an awful stretch that the results have almost demanded action. It really couldn't wait any longer.

I think this firing still puts Ron in a no-win situation. If the D suddenly improves under his play calling then the feeling might well be, "What the hell were you waiting for?" Instead of, maybe we got something.

If Vrabel leaves Tennessee and his staff fired, I wonder if we try to get Chris Harris back.

So while I have no issues firing Del Rio. And believe it was long overdue. I don’t know how I feel about Harris putting out a statement saying he told Rivera to fire him. I’m pretty much over a meddling owner. I know changes are coming and I’m not panicked over this. But I want the owner to hire smart football people who can make these decisions. Maybe that’s what happened here and he just put out a statement. But I’m not a fan of the owner being this involved in football decisions.

It's the start to a longer process that needs to happen.

Who takes over the DB room? Anybody heard yet?

That’s not what the statement said - it said that Rivera told him he was making the coaching changes.

Harris’ statement was that it was Rivera’s recommendation and that he accepted them.

Thanks for correcting me. I reread that and see that’s what it said. I somehow thought it said he recommended it to Rivera, which was my only concern.

All good. I read it the same way my first pass

I'm wondering that if as a prior linebacker and D coach this might help Ron. I doubt it, but I can always wish.
