I think the Sinnott pick was actually, in hindsight, just a bad match pick and evidence of a first time GM not quite knowing what they are doing.

It's year 1, they have Kliff as the OC. Everybody has to know what his offense is like. ** This is different than what a lot of people THINK it is like, but you have to expect the GM to know what it is really like.

What Kliff's offense needs is:
1. A lot of speed. Everywhere.
2. Players who can do multiple things
3. Get on the move, because almost everything is meant to space a defense out

In picking Sinnott, they said he was somewhat similar to Kyle Juszczyk, who's more of a fullback. That type of player is just not a fit in Kliff's offense. So why pick him?

Now, he might be more of a fit in whatever Blough runs. Who knows.

When the GM picks a player which doesn't fit the scheme, and then expects the OC to change the scheme, that's generally not great. Flip side, the OC should mold the offense around players you have.

But philosophically, Kliff doesn't use FBs. He already had the primary blocker on the team in Bates. A better pick would have been another TE with speed who can stretch the defense vertically down the middle. That creates the spacing Kliff's offense is based on.

Instead you have old, slow Ertz, blocker Bates, and tweaner Sinnott.

It just never fit right.
Agreed and it is a quagmire we still find ourselves in.

We have a great blocking non YAC guy and a good on the move blocker, neither being very fast but Sinnott testing well athletically. He was not given great opportunity under Kliff.

Knowing by most accounts the TE position takes some time to develop and get up to NFL speed, it's not the best scenario for drafting that second or early third day YAC type TE.

Instead we more than likely need to grab a FA TE with some YAC potential

What I we've learned about Sinnott.

He's got very good hands. He doesn't drop anything.
He's gotten better as a blocker.
What we don't know is whether he can read zones or run good routes. We don't know if he can carve out a Cooley like career at tight end. What we don't know is if he can earn a starter role or even a significant role on offense.

What we don't know given that he's about to start year 3 is troubling. We should basically know what we have in him and we're still guessing. That's a problem. It's more or less the same with McCaffrey except we know that McCaffrey was starting to be found as a receiver and was a solid KR.

McCaffery will be a Marvin Mims type, great returner, useful receiver.

With only 16 career receptions it might be a little premature to call him sure handed.
Yeah but if I remember correctly, he's got 16 receptions on 17 targets

Let's hope Blough uses a FB in his offense. Sinnott can go play FB and make a Pro Bowl next year if Juzczyck gets hurt. We can then have a bunch of folks tell us we hit on the pick because we landed a Pro Bowl FB

It certainly looks that way. The Eagles are kind of a mess, rumors of Fangio and Stoutland retiring, no one wanting to work with Hurts/Sirianni.

I got the same sense from Russini's tweet, and one other, specifically mentioning California. He's from there, I thought.

Either way, it's a short term gig. He'll be a HC in a year.

Speaking of HCs, I have heard nothing regarding Kingsbury for any HC gigs. Maybe he overvalued his stock?
Espn this morning mentioned KK in the mix for OC at the Giants, among others - could be old news but first time I've seen his name for a while.

I just dont envision KK playing under Harbough....Harbough definitely going to want things his way, if the rumored riff between KK and DQ is correct that certainly doesnt bod well with it working out in NY

Yes it is hard to see that one working - I read a piece (Riggo's Rag?) that suggested KK's stock isn't as high as maybe he expected.

Well….Minnesota had no problem defending Kliff’s offense. 🤷🏻‍♂️
