That’s not what nepotism is. At worst what you’re describing is cronyism. And that’s also not what this is because McDaniel is immediately the (arguably) best OC candidate on the open market. He’s qualified, he worked his way up through the league, and continued to have success. You could argue he benefited from cronyism when he flunked out of the league due to his drinking and then got another chance with another Shanahan disciple, but he’s earned his way up the ranks and produced other than that. Never initially got a job because of his name or ancestry. Never failed upward due to his name. Not nepotism. Mild cronyism, because he benefited from the prestige of the Shanahan coaching tree, but he still had to be good. Neither applying in this case (him coming to work here in 2025 as the OC under a guy he has a personal relationship with, because he is arguably the best candidate even setting aside their personal relationship)

Count me in as well. I was really impressed with the way he held that Miami team together this year. At one point it looked like they’d hit rock bottom and people were wondering if McDaniel would even make it through the season. But he turned it around and they finished pretty strong, despite the injuries and Tua’s suckitude.

I can't find the tweet, but can't help but think back to something posted a couple of days ago that we could be getting an OC better than some teams HC appointments. It was an odd thing to say, but now I'm connecting the dots and wondering if something has been in the works, and maybe whoever posted it knew things were changing in Miami and the wheels were in motion?

I think the offense would be in great hands so one side of the ball down, but yeah we need to get as much talent as we can on that defense haha. Love the idea of trading back in the first round to acquire more picks. But we need Mike, not sure there is another OC in the league I’d rather have. Ben Johnson if he were available I guess but he’s no longer an OC haha

That's always the catch 22. If he does well then we will probably be winning. It's hard to fire the HC when you are winning, even when you know that it's probably because of the OC. If Detroit was smart, they should have made Johnson the HC
I hope people don't hold this against AP / Dan if we DONT end up with McDaniel. I can already see the explosive 'failure' posts, and while it makes a ton of sense to us, we have no idea what the FO, or Mike McDaniel is feeling about everything.
I get him wanting to have a starter opportunity but will he? I don't see Tua getting a starter shot or being able to surpass Jayden. He could look at Jaydens past season and roll the dice that he doesn't stay healthy which gives him play time like Mariota received.

Just think of the schemes McDaniel would dream up with Jayden. Maybe Quinn knew McDaniel was on his way out of Miami and knew this was his chance…would explain Kliff being shown the door. Because I can’t think of another valid reason haha.
