Nay!

He's too old and the price is too high. I'll stick with Noah Brown for this year and draft my Davante Adams next year. Now, if the price is only a 4th, then I would say yay.

Oh, our wide receiver room is mostly castoffs. I think we all know that. We have a wide receiver that Philly didn't think was good enough for their roster starting and a third (or fourth) wide receiver who Houston didn't think was good enough to make their roster. The guy, other than Terry, we are most excited about is a rookie who two years ago was a QB.

Adams is a very talented, veteran receiver. I think he's the kind of guy you trade for if you think you are one player away from the Super Bowl. As good as we feel right now, I don't think we'll be playing in February.
On the other hand…Philly thought that Dotson was worth a 3rd. I’m not so sure they still do now.

No. We don’t need him in year 1 of a total tear down and rebuild, given his cap numbers.

Generally I’d love to add him or someone like him. Just don’t think the cost makes sense in the current situation.

I also am curious how it might harm the current locker room, which seems to be in super high spirits at the moment.

I’ll say no as well since I believe this does throw out some of the future for the present. And the offense has not been the issue, so no need to throw out the future for something that is humming at the moment.

Although I bet a lot of you would change your votes if the trade included Dyami Brown.

I will add: if Adam peters goes and gets him then I’m super happy.

I am still in the mode of in AP I trust.

Adams is a selfish player and not compatible with the culture the team is trying to develop here.

At 31 he has made his money and there aren’t too many levers you can use with a guy like this if he becomes unhappy.

He will just become a distraction and derail your team as he is doing with Vegas.

Valid concern although those kinds of reps never stopped Belichick from bringing in guys that improved the roster. He just cut bait quickly if it turned out to be a mistake. That’s why if they are thinking about it it would have to be a deep discount.

That’s Belichick, he of the many Super Bowls with an established culture and HOF quarterback and strong team leaders to police the locker room.

When the Patriots took a flyer on Randy Moss Bill and Tom had already won 3 Super Bowls and Moss came in for a #4 draft pick.

Bill didn’t give up a #2 and extras in the future as the Raiders seem to want for Adams who is not in Moss’ class.

No one is suggesting we give up a number 2. But if we could get him for a reasonable price I think you have to at least think about it. So far, it would be an outlier in terms of how AP seems to want to proceed so probably a very long shot.

On a barely-related note - I'd still like to know why we didn't make a deal with Curtis Samuel? Guy was nearly as good as Terry the past couple seasons and would've been a huge weapon in this offense. Makes me wonder if maybe he wasn't one of the guys pot-stirring and leaking shit to the media the past couple years, because his talent definitely warranted keeping him around. Only 28 right now too.

I figured Samuel wanted a bigger pay day. Buffalo may be regretting that though as so far he’s not doing much. He has just 8 catches for 48 yds for 1 first down and has rushed twice for 7 yards. So at least through this first part of the year, he’s having next to no impact in Buffalo.

Meanwhile Zaccheus has 10 catches for 114 yds but 8 of them are for first downs. And Noah Brown has 9 for 111 with 6 of them being first downs. They are making impactful receptions and plays. So Peters was able to find guys that have been more productive (so far) for much less.

That’s fair, but Samuel was a huge part of our offensive production for years, no idea how he’s being used in Buffalo but he is a playmaker. You may be right he wanted more than Washington would offer or just wanted off the circus train (and who could blame him for that?).

A trade in the works possibly?

Davante Adams expected to sit in Week 5
Hamstring injury?

Raiders WR Davante Adams is not expected to play Sunday vs. the Broncos due to his hamstring injury, per league sources. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: We can speculate on whether or not Adams has an injury, but regardless, he won't be on the field in Week 5. In his absence, Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker will have a difficult task against the Broncos defense that's given up the 2nd fewest fantasy points to wide receivers.

It was mentioned on the podcast that Brown and Zaccheus are catching everything and combined, make a pretty decent #2 receiver. For the time being, I take that, while also keeping my fingers crossed that the likes of McCaffrey and Sinnott only get better after only four weeks into their careers.

Devante can go hang with his buddy quarterbacking the Jets.

Also, sometimes, I think there must be something locker room chemistry related for some of these #1 WRs. GB, and Vegas are willing to let him go for a reason. (And similarly, someone like Diggs. Minn, and Buf were OK letting him go for a reason) So, I think more than on-field production has to be factored in.

This part of Enforcer's post is the key bit I think for me.

It's pretty clear that Peters/Quinn are establishing a culture, and have been very careful to cultivate the right kind of characters in that culture. It's been reported by a number of sources (Keim being one of them) that the primary reason he was traded to the Eagles was a lack of buy in to the culture that they're trying to establish here. What's more, that seems to really be an underrated key to our success in my opinion. It's clearly visible on the sidelines that this team has a ton of good chemistry. Yes, some of that will come from winning, but this chemistry has been pretty clear through camp and pre-season too, where we weren't winning much. These guys are confident and have each others back.

So, in trading for Adams I think Peters/Quinn are looking at more than just the skill and the contract. I suspect they'll be asking 'Does this player fit our culture? Can what we've built survive if we bring in a bad apple?"
The very last thing we want to do right now is destroy the chemistry we have on an offense that's humming historically.

I'm not sure what Davante is in terms of character really. I didn't get much of a sense of it from watching the Netflix show if I'm honest. While I understand his frustration at LV (Team is a mess, heading in the wrong direction, and the QB he came to play with is now in New Orleans) but I'd be interested to dig into why GB let him go. Rodgers was still there I think at the time, and they now have Jordan Love in ascension.

I DO think that we'll make trades before the deadline. I think that what has been accomplished so far has shifted the focus for the Front Office. I don't think it'll be Adams, but I think it's possible we beat Cleveland this week and maybe we lose to Baltimore, and head into late October with a 5-2 record. At that point I think we'll see some trades, but I'd wager probably on the defensive side to try and shore that up.

So, I'm a no on Adams...

...unless the price is right and we're sure he's not a locker room chemistry killer.

I know it's a different sport, but this kinda reminds me of the movie Moneyball.

It's been reported that Peters puts more stock into Analytics, and they recruited Eugene Shen to bolster that department last year. Maybe this is a case of Peters looking at the numbers and deciding that, yes, the number 2 WR job can be done quite effectively by committee. I mean, this offense has been historically efficient and productive the last few weeks...

*shrugs*

Maybe the Commanders are about the change the game. LOL Soon, all the other teams will be binning their #2 WRs!! :D

Shen is gone, working for another of Harris' companies. But yes - this is definitely a more analytics-driven franchise now.

Doesn't seem like this team needs a 32 year old injured superstar WR.
