It's being reported that the Raiders are willing to trade Davante Adams for a package including a 2nd rounder plus other compensation.

Fast facts:
Adams will be 32 by the end of the season.
If the trade happened today, he would count over $13 million against the cap this year. Washington is part of the roughly third of the league with the cap space for Adams.
He is under contract through 2026.
- 2025 salary - $36.25M
- 2026 salary - $36.25M
There is no remaining guaranteed money left on the contract though and it could be renegotiated in the offseason.
In 2022, he had 100 catches on 180 targets for 1516 yards and 14 TDs (David Carr was the QB)
In 2023 he had 103 catches on 175 targets for 1144 yards and 8 TDs (3 different QBs - Garapolo, Hoyer, O'Connell)
In 3 appearances this season, he has 18 catches on 27 targets for 209 yards and 1 TD (Gardner Minshew)

His age, his contract, and his injury history over the past two seasons- combined with how this team is and should be being built earns a oh, hell no from me.

I'm waffling...but my knee-jerk reaction is "Nay", unless he could be had cheaply enough...and that ain't gonna happen.

I was incorrect about his injury history, Chris. He has played all 17 games the last 2 seasons. Over the course of his whole career, he has actually been fairly durable, playing in 13 or more games every year in the league. He has missed 2 or fewer games in all but 2 seasons and has 4 seasons where he didn't miss any games.

I watched the Netflix series Receivers and I swear he missed games last year with a hammy. Maybe I”m having a version of Boone’s disorder. 😉

No, that's a move someone whose sniffing the SuperBowl should make, we're not there yet and need to hold our assets especially draft capital.

I wouldn’t trade a 2nd but if we could get him for a 4th and a 5th or something like that I’d consider it.

Nay. As I said earlier, the only way I'd do it would be as a player swap. For example, if they would take Allen for Adams with no sweetners, I might go for it. I still might not though for a couple of reasons.

First, the offense is humming. Not sure how long it would take for Adams to get up to speed, but we haven't needed him the last two weeks. More importantly, this season isn't that big. I really don't think we can make a Super Bowl run so getting a short term mercenary at the expense of a player Daniels and the team can grow with feels counterproductive.

While he is a high talent receiver, I will go with no thanks. Offense is still in the early stages -- and is already performing well! And we are not on the doorstep of the SB, so the timing is not right for this team, THIS year, for me.

Also, sometimes, I think there must be something locker room chemistry related for some of these #1 WRs. GB, and Vegas are willing to let him go for a reason. (And similarly, someone like Diggs. Minn, and Buf were OK letting him go for a reason) So, I think more than on-field production has to be factored in.

I think our offense has proved we can already score with anyone. However, we are still in a rebuild mode I wouldn’t feel comfortable, giving up draft pics for him

I wouldn’t trade a 2nd but if we could get him for a 4th and a 5th or something like that I’d consider it.
I added that option to the Poll.

A move like that has Vinny Cerrato vibes. It’s a nay for me.

Devil's Advocate

We are all looking at this year like it's a rebuild project but this team is currently humming. Like seriously humming. And much of the rest of the NFC doesn't look great - especially in our own division. I'm not banking on this team being a real contender this season but I believe we'd be dumb to write this season completely off as a "rebuilding" year after a 3-1 start. There are 5 games between now and the Nov 5 trade deadline and if this team continues to play like it has the last 3 weeks, there is a legit chance it could be 7-2 and in the running for an upper seed in the playoffs.

Has the offense needed a Davante Adams the last 3 weeks? No. Would it have been better with a Davante Adams? Yeah, I think that is hard to argue against. And there are better defenses coming deeper in the schedule...

Well, they wouldn't really have been better off with Davante Adams the last three weeks. He's been injured ;)

If you can improve the WR room for the next 3 seasons at a reasonable cost - you do it. I guarantee you Peters and Quinn are looking at this season as a throw away year. They want to win.

He played the first 3 weeks of the season. He was only injured in practice last Thursday.

I doubt that Adams is all tingly about any idea of playing for a reasonable contract.

Probably why it won’t happen, but the guy has something like 6 straight seasons of 1000+ yds receiving (several of 1500+) and is still a fantastic player - let’s not pretend we have anyone approaching that beyond Terry.

Oh, our wide receiver room is mostly castoffs. I think we all know that. We have a wide receiver that Philly didn't think was good enough for their roster starting and a third (or fourth) wide receiver who Houston didn't think was good enough to make their roster. The guy, other than Terry, we are most excited about is a rookie who two years ago was a QB.

Adams is a very talented, veteran receiver. I think he's the kind of guy you trade for if you think you are one player away from the Super Bowl. As good as we feel right now, I don't think we'll be playing in February.

He’s got 3 years on his current contract. We don’t have to go to the SB this season to need a great WR for the next 3 seasons. Just my opinion but unlikely regardless due to the cost.
