Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

Yeah. Same take. Makes it seem like none of their preferred candidates want to prioritize taking our job (Flores included obviously, but not just him necessarily).
I don't necessarily think it's just that they don't want to take the job. Though I bet some of them are in that bucket...

I think it's possible we didn't love some of them, too.

And I'm willing to bet Blough's inexperience isn't helping in the DC search. People may think that doesn't make sense... but it does.
Is that better than underwhelmed?

Are they waiting for someone who is still playing? Scott? I don't even know who else it might be

No. It's not better than underwhelmed. It's a state of being in a metaphysical sense of the phrase.

I actually really don't like it. The guy wants to be a position coach. It would be so on brand for us to hire him to do the bigger job.

Scott is the only candidate tied to this that would make me feel relatively good.

Gannon would be a notch below.

Wilson, Graham are okay consolations.

Other than them, with the names we know of... I hope DQ has his resume updated.

I just wanted it to be someone w/out connections to DQ and hopefully it still is. Scott seems to have done an excellent job with Seattle's secondary and maybe like Blough he would be a HR. Maybe,

I'm fine with Al Harris as the D-Coordinator **if and only if** Quinn remains the defensive playcaller. Like Bieniemy as Andy Reid's OC.

Ouch. Seems Quinn misidentified his top options and now has to react, instead of proactively going after realistic targets.

Some will say, that’s odd, the Blough promotion was so decisive, it happened so quickly as to be obviously proactive! So why the difference? I disagree. I think being scared into going with Blough after three days, without interviewing any other real competition for the job, was the definition of reactive. Because the Lions’ interest made us jump early and dictated our entire process. That’s also reactive, just in a different way.

Everyone here, while hopeful, seemed to acknowledge that Flores was likely not a real option (HC or MIN DC), and that Ulbrich was very likely to be retained in ATL. It was reported everywhere that it’s what ATL ownership wanted.

So why are we seemingly taken by surprise by these outcomes? Seems we overcommitted to the idea that they may have been realistic options.

Just makes us look disorganized and out of touch. And now we’re adding names to our interview list without playcalling experience, later in the process. Making it clear we whiffed on our top options, so we can’t even pretend we got our guy in the end.

At least with Quinn they laid the groundwork with Keim early to keep an eye on him, they at least gave pushing the idea that he was their top guy the good ol’ college try. They tried to convince people.

This feels like settling for a bridge staff during a bridge year. Bizarre. Feels like if we had someone even remotely qualified or interesting already on staff, we’d be witnessing an in-house DC promotion as well. We don’t so we may accidentally end up with some new ideas in the building anyways.

At that point go all in on the current strat and hire Kerrigan as DC.

Why haven’t these clowns spoken with Jim Leonhard? If you are looking at DC candidates with no NFL playcalling experience, he should be #1 on their list

Summary of the posts missing since 1/22. Many /some of us hoping that Karl Scott has been the teams selection since his interview. And that the team interviewing others has just been part of a ruse to conceal their intentions and explore others candidates approaches.
*OK, maybe not many or even "some." Largely just KDawg , my new puppy, and myself. but still...

The real summary is since Thursday nothing of importance has been lost or changed in this thread. The team still appears to running a semi-fruitless effort to sign a DC with past play calling experience and it is tough because AP didn't fire DQ and start from scratch.

I am so happy it was not my computer that was the issue. I sure thought it was. Thanks Mods for getting this back up and running!

Quinn keeps taking arrows when Peters is the one responsible for Quinn to begin with. This I wholly alarming and disappointing from Peters.

AP is in charge. This is on him.

But Quinn has made a ton of questionable calls. This DC hire is going to be gigantic for perception heading into FA and ultimately what could potentially be our season.

AP should have fingers, toes, eyes, arms all crossed hoping this all works out.

I wanted Gannon initially, but looks like they weren't really interested. 2 DCs down.

How many teams have interviewed Leonhard? I've only seen a few

I believe he interviewed with Dallas, the Jets and perhaps GB who at least has shown interest
