Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

Schwartz is likely staying in Cleveland too. I'm betting money it's going to be Mehrris
This is why Quinn should’ve been fired. This entire process is laughable and really makes Peters look even more in over his head. Heartbreaking tbh. Gambling like this with Jaydens career and what it means to this fanbase is organizational incompetence personified.

Yes, and if Snyder just let his GM do his job, amirite?

Hoping there is someone else from one of the other teams that is still playing in the playoffs, specifically (Denver, SF, Seattle) that we don't know about IF we can't get Ulbrich. We could do worse but I am not a fan of Morris!

I’m not thrilled with the idea of Raheem Morris. But he may be our best chance.

That's good because I still think he is who we end out with. He is the opposite of an exciting selection The way the offensive staff is coming together we made really need ho hum on the other side

(y) He is probably the safest choice for DQ's sake. I'd certainly like to see a new, young innovative assistant DC come in. We are seeing that opportunity given to Blough. It would be nice to see if Ulbrich or Flores be DC are not one of the hires. That's just me.

Kind of reading the tea leaves a bit, I think Quinn is going to be more involved with the offensive game planning

Well to be fair I did say “basically” no shot. Anything can happen. The point is when we wind up with one of these other 3 less inspiring coaches it will be time to ask some very difficult questions. Personally, I think it’s already time.
I think it’s reasonable to be asking questions - after the season we had, the Whitt failure, moving on from Kliff and the way the Blough hire played out.

This reads like you are saying Quinn should have been fired because Schwartz is likely staying in Cleveland and we might hire Morris. I’m assuming it’s more the OC process and the chances of hiring an underwhelming DC?
The process of going from Kliff to Blough was… questionable to be sure, and Blough’s inexperience is a major risk. The DC search seems like a normal process though, unless I’m missing something?

At this point, I’m assuming we wind up with an underwhelming DC - job security-wise, it’s a bit of a risk joining Quinn’s staff, Quinn’s a defensive HC, our defensive talent blows, and there are a lot of openings and few truly inspiring/proven candidates.

I don’t think it says anything about Peters tbh - the HC (as they should) has final say on hiring/firing coordinators. I mean, you’re welcome to feel that way of course, but I’d be shocked if anyone in NFL circles shares that take. Peters is doing what a GM should do - give Quinn another year (firing him would have been a bad look) and free rein in his OC/DC choice. 🤷‍♂️

DQ is putting it on the line with Blough. An option and it's living on the edge so to speak, not inside the organization but a well-respected assistant D coach coming here as DC. A thought and not my choice but one that would be exciting one if DQ goes that way.

Possibly R44. Interesting point. His fingerprints are all over the hires, I think for Blough and DC, when it is concluded. He knows this possibly/probably his last shot as a HC. Maybe, maybe not.

I don’t think we’re going to have a shot at anyone else and he may be the safest selection. But there is also a chance he even winds up elsewhere.

We need some of the HC dominoes to fall to get the DC dominoes to start aligning.

A lot of fan buzz on social media about Morris to Green Bay as DC. They really want him badly. 🤞

I see your fingers are crossed. I’m not sure Morris landing somewhere else is going to be good for us.

It seems super odd considering he wouldn't even get involved in the D last year

I mean, I can get him telling thee new DC the need to focus more on the running game and not as much QB schemed runs but other than that, it should be on the OC and his staff

Firstly, I don’t believe Blough is Quinn’s choice at all. Who did we interview that had a realistic chance of getting this job? No one. Why would that be? Why would Quinn believe going from Kliff to Blough helps Quinn keep Quinn’s job? Who is less invested in Quinn’s job security? Adam Peters. Who did Schultz point the finger at in his report? Adam Peters. Yes, I am on record as suggesting Blough is more Peters/Newmark than Quinn. That’s the only thing that makes Blough actually make sense.

Funny Ive see interviews with Ben Johnson making the rounds telling us all at a Bears press conference that Blough will be a HC one day. Why is that suddenly important now? I wonder.

Secondly, entrusting Quinn to not fail at hiring coordinators again after just telling the whole world he failed in both cases within the same season is foolish. Patience for patience sake isn’t good management.

We were historically bad this year, injuries or not. Idc what he did or we did as a team in 2024. The coordinators both were a part of 2024. Was 2025 solely all their fault? Give me a break.

This regime hasn’t developed Jayden beyond what he was as a senior in college football. They hid his deficiencies in a system the whole NFL had no real experience defending. Coddling him because he “doesn’t like something” hasn’t done him nor the organization any favors. Promoting a bunch of cheap 30 year old coaches with next to no or no experience isn’t going to help develop him. It’s all a farce.

Bringing in borderline elite/ to elite DCs to interview, ALL WHILE KEIM KEEPS TELLING US SOLELY ABOUT MORRIS AND ULBRICH, just to to end up with a milquetoast DC is preposterous. How many times in our past have we seen this same movie before with coordinators OR HC hires? I’m legitimately dismayed with how this thing is being run rn.

I’m happy to be wrong about the eventual results, but this entire process has just sucked.

I really wish they were in a position to give Karl Scott the defensive assistant/passing game coordinator from the Seahawks the job. Another young, well thought of, up and coming defensive mind. I know they interviewed him, but it was probably just to pick his mind for ideas. If the Falcons hire any offensive HC, they are going to keep Ulbrich. Raheem Morris getting a lot of credit for the Super Bowl run with the Rams, same with Gannon and the Eagles. Probably end up with Patrick Graham or Dennard Wilson. All of these would leave me welmed.

Got to wonder where Morris's head will be at if he gets "demoted" to DC. How motivated will he be? Will he take it as a challenge and give it his best or will he be a bit disgruntled? DQ has to be able to figure this out for his own sake.

Won’t be the first time it’s happened to him, to be fair. And I’m pretty sure after the first time he was fired as a HC, he fell much further than DC at his next stop while he rehabbed his rep. He was OUR DB’s coach after he failed as an NFL HC the first time lol. His journey has been very strange.

Are we being too impatient? Most jobs haven't been filled yet. Who knows how it will shake out or who Quinn's real targets even are?

Dominoes have to fall for HC's and their staffs before we truly know. Position coaches being brought in for DC interviews as they may become position coaches with us if they are released or new DC.
