Johnson? Who cares? He's evidently a Josh McDaniels type that flakes out when the bright lights are on him. The Detroit situation with a coach in Campbell who takes up the media room with his personality is great for an introvert like Johnson. Norv was the same way with Jimmy in Dallas. Jimmy would yell at the players and then Norv would go to practice and buck the guys up with positive reinforcement.

So I think it's a story. I don't think it's THE story, but I think it's a story. The "how we got here" and the way Johnson behaved, and then the grenades both sides have been throwing at each other is a story.

If Johnson had just faded into the atmosphere, I think it's a "nothing to see here" situation. Even if he canceled on them, and then it was kindof silent after that. But it wasn't.

The "baseball guys" line, the reports coming from everywhere about who said what to whom when, and it hasn't really ended yet. It's become a story in it's own right.

I wish one of our media folks had asked a polite question to Harris about the process, and to react to all of the noise surrounding Johnson. I'm also sure Harris would have just poopooed the whole thing and said "we got our guy moving forward." But I think the media has an obligation to ask the question. And to me they failed at that.

PS: I generally hate the media for lack of ability to perform their job function of sussing out information when they have the opportunity to do so, and instead perform the magazine show talking head aspect of their job. It's an axe I have to grind, and grind it I do pretty regularly.

True, and it may be a story of interest to Stephen A. Smith and Pat McAfee to discuss and make hay with on their shows, but since Washington has moved forward with others and we are looking to free agency and the draft those of us in DC really don't care about Ben Johnson anymore.

Other than to hope the Lions fall flat on their faces in 2024 after all of the arrogance coming out of one contending season in the past 40 years.

I dunno. I find the back and forth fascinating. I think it was the "baseball people" quote that made me fascinated by the response.

I can also be fascinated by that part of the story and know that Ben Johnson is dead to me, and I'm moving on with the draft, FA, QB and life in general.

Maybe it's a morbid fascination. I'd definitely cop to that. But I am interested in what happened and why.

I thought I would put this here; a good article was recently written that goes over the whole coach search process. There are "team sources in the room" who are quoted, which is either a leaking, highly placed source, or someone in the room who isn't highly placed but was there (?), or finally - could it be a strategy by the team to try to shape the narrative around the Quinn hiring? I could see it being any of the three.

Given that, I read between the lines, and honestly I see the same thing I thought originally; it looks to me that they got someone they liked, but they were not sold on him. I think they felt they might find someone better but their process was a bit slowed by the amount of cooks in the kitchen. It honestly sounds that way. I also thought it was interesting that Steve Kerr came in on DQ's side; it may be a strong influence for Myers, it may be a legitimately good review, but I am not sure I would take my "buddy's" review of someone they haven't worked with. I don't give such reviews, myself, because I don't trust *myself* to be unbiased.
