Ugh, here is this week's snap totals for the Redskins' at the Rams. Again, Cooley was the only non-QB offensive player who played all 54 offensive snaps. Dude is a rock for us this year.
Some highlights:
Offense:
-The first bad run – a 3-yard loss – happened when LG Kory Lichtensteiger was beat by LB James Laurinaitis
-The Rams blitzed seven and the Redskins had seven in protection on McNabb’s 26-yard scramble. Chris Long beat Hicks to flush McNabb out of the pocket
-Torain’s 5-yard gain early in the third quarter was a classic example of effective zone blocking – Brown vs. DE, Hicks vs. MLB, Rabach vs. DT, Lichtensteiger vs. LB, Heyer vs. DT, Cooley vs. LB, Sellers vs. S, Davis vs. DE – all moving to their right like a train
-On the Rams’ fourth-quarter sack, they blitzed six and the Redskins kept six in protection. Torain couldn’t get a good shot on Laurinaitis, forcing McNabb to move off his spot. James Hall beat Heyer to get the clean up (why we need Portis to play!)
Defense:
-On Moore’s first-quarter interception, Carriker deserves credit. He beat RG Adam Goldberg (who was called for holding), forcing Sam Bradford to throw early. Intended receiver Daniel Fells hadn’t even turned around when Moore picked off the pass
-Breaking down Orakpo’s sack: Lined up outside of Haynesworth, he shot around Big Al at the snap. Jacob Bell and Rodger Saffold double-teamed Haynesworth and RB Kenneth Darby was late to react/whiffed on Orakpo, who eventually chased down Bradford
-It’s time to find more snaps for Alexander, who on one second-half series was effective in coverage and broke up a pass behind the line of scrimmage. He played 24 second-half snaps, mostly in place of Carter
-Haynesworth played a season-high 25 snaps but was on the field for consecutive plays only five times
Teams:
-The special teams miscues so far this year – dropped snap on a field goal against Dallas, blocked and missed field goals against Houston and a blocked punt allowed against St. Louis. (FIRE DANNY SMITH!)
