If you worked in a hospital, pretty sure you'd be afraid buddy. I was. I still am, since both my wife and sister work in a hospital with COVID-19 patients. It's fine to argue this is all over-hyped. Everything in the modern world is over-hyped. But guarantee you New Yorkers don't think it's over-hyped, New Orleans residents don't think it's over-hyped. And you won't find an NA, RN, MD, or other healthcare provider/first responder who thinks that's the case.
I also think that our CDC and national coronavirus leaders have a point when they say, if it doesn't become a terrible, life-threatening risk in your area, it will be because of all the 'hysteria' and 'over-reaction, not in spite of it.
I don't believe I ever said, "this is
all overhyped". But parts of it surely are. To Neo's point, overhyping seems to be the only thing to slow done the total idiots group hugging at the beach. (We just seem to differ on the media's goals, and evolving participation at the outset) But there are still thousands of people going to work, everyday, since this thing began.
Please know that I think the medical community has been nothing short of super human. They/you are a different breed of cat. But I'd say, for a group of people that have to wade through the deep end of this cesspool of misery 24/7, that the safety features put in place, in the face of shortages of most things needed for their safety, have proved highly effective, so far. Keeping them well supplied, and healthy, takes precedent over everything else, in my mind.
Without them, we're all dead long ago.
But also, at least around here, most construction just keeps on rolling. Grocery stores, department stores, liquor stores, gas stations, and other businesses across the country have been operational this whole time. With minimal safety upgrades. And to date, I haven't heard of many extraordinary breakouts in these places. Which one would think would have to make the news. That's why I believe, that there are smart people that can come up with ways to make places safe enough to allow as many people to return to work as possible. I feel the one size fits all, blanket shutdown of the economy has the potential to do as much damage to the country as this, or any other virus does. Obviously, it would take full participation from the public. Which sadly, too many have proven too dense to do.
I also believe there are many, entities, whose daily goal it is, to keep things like they are, for as long as they can.
And the reasons why are anything but noble.
