Coronavirus - COVID19

Except that he hasn't denied anything.

Anywho, if I recall correctlyu you have a son who was going into the Navy. I hope he is well and am greatful for his service.

he isnt going to hold a press conference.

Until squashed, the competing theories were eating the wrong stuff; someone in the Wuhan P4 lab (i.e., bio warfare
It's one of many labs in the world that study the worst of the worst viruses. They aren't used to develop biological weapons. Especially not just because you say so.

Howdy gang. So maybe this has already been discussed, but does anybody else get the sense that this may be the doorway to martial law and a fascist state? Don't get me wrong, I am the farthest thing from a conspiracy theorist, but I can see Trump taking full advantage of this crisis to impose his will on our united states. I truly hope I am wrong and just thinking too much, but the thought lingers.

We don't discuss politics on this site Dude - sorry.

Shirley is right....lol

A 6 year old boy with CF has beaten coronavirus. That is really good to hear.

Yeah, the positive news in all this is harder to come by. But more and more is trickling out.
Like WWII vets, and other seniors that have had it, recovered, and going strong.
The "80% will only have mild, to no symptoms" is holding up. As is the roughly 98% overall survival rate.
Multiple possible treatments, vaccines in the pipeline showing early promise. Etc...

Unfortunately, mayhem and fear are still the narrative for most media reporting. It's what they want. So that's what they report about most.
Whether imagined, or not.

I have to disagree, Ax. Without the "mayhem and fear" narrative, I don't think most Americans would be taking this seriously at this point. Frankly, the press was a whole lot closer to right about this early on than anyone gave them credit for.

I do think the message could be modified a bit but we are a country that now responds better to fear than anything else. Sadly, it has become a necessary tool when working with the American people.

With the over abundance of stupidity in the country, fear has turned out to be the best tool to use. But fear, of almost everything, has been pushed by the media for years. In support of their agenda. If common sense were even moderately present today, much of this shutdown would not be necessary, IMHO.
I don't give the media any credit at all. If they appear more right than wrong, I promise you it was pure dumb luck. They have a singular focus. And it is not about peoples health. Or accurate information.
They have a great number of people believing that if they walk outside, a sniper in a tree is going to shoot them with a coronabullet, and they will die immediately. (hyperbole for emphasis) And the fact that reporting of good, or positive news, is almost as hard as finding toilet paper, speaks volumes.

Their agenda, and whom they serve, has been, painfully obvious from day one. And it continues.

If you worked in a hospital, pretty sure you'd be afraid buddy. I was. I still am, since both my wife and sister work in a hospital with COVID-19 patients. It's fine to argue this is all over-hyped. Everything in the modern world is over-hyped. But guarantee you New Yorkers don't think it's over-hyped, New Orleans residents don't think it's over-hyped. And you won't find an NA, RN, MD, or other healthcare provider/first responder who thinks that's the case.

I also think that our CDC and national coronavirus leaders have a point when they say, if it doesn't become a terrible, life-threatening risk in your area, it will be because of all the 'hysteria' and 'over-reaction, not in spite of it.

This meme on fear is questionable.

The argument that the Amercian people would not act responsibly without a primary motivator of fear is so condescending as to leave me breathless. If true, let's pack our bags now and go home. There are no heros, there are no people of principle, there are no altruists.....just thoughtless sheep who need to he herded by the hyping of the unknown....who cannot be trusted to think intelligently about themselves, their families and their communities. These are not the sorts of Americans I know and have served with.

There are multiple professions with constant risk. Folks know this going in. I respect these people for their courage; commitment to a higher, more compelling purpose; willingness to act on our behalves at personal risk. Fear isn't near the top of my list as a noble motivator. I suppose we are destined, just like after 9/11, to confront and see threats for what they are...and the selfless folks who act because it is their personal mission statement, because it is their calling in life.

I'm gonna go with Agent K in Men in Black: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.

I don't believe I ever said, "this is all overhyped". But parts of it surely are. To Neo's point, overhyping seems to be the only thing to slow done the total idiots group hugging at the beach. (We just seem to differ on the media's goals, and evolving participation at the outset) But there are still thousands of people going to work, everyday, since this thing began.

Please know that I think the medical community has been nothing short of super human. They/you are a different breed of cat. But I'd say, for a group of people that have to wade through the deep end of this cesspool of misery 24/7, that the safety features put in place, in the face of shortages of most things needed for their safety, have proved highly effective, so far. Keeping them well supplied, and healthy, takes precedent over everything else, in my mind.
Without them, we're all dead long ago.

But also, at least around here, most construction just keeps on rolling. Grocery stores, department stores, liquor stores, gas stations, and other businesses across the country have been operational this whole time. With minimal safety upgrades. And to date, I haven't heard of many extraordinary breakouts in these places. Which one would think would have to make the news. That's why I believe, that there are smart people that can come up with ways to make places safe enough to allow as many people to return to work as possible. I feel the one size fits all, blanket shutdown of the economy has the potential to do as much damage to the country as this, or any other virus does. Obviously, it would take full participation from the public. Which sadly, too many have proven too dense to do.

I also believe there are many, entities, whose daily goal it is, to keep things like they are, for as long as they can.
And the reasons why are anything but noble.

I agree, and disagree, at the same time. Or is it, disagree, and agree, at the same time?

Lemme splain.

I agree, IF, moving the herd would have started as a cattle drive. A slow methodical start, with definitive measures in place, to educate on the fly, in a calm professional manner, that enough people would have responded in a way to have a better result by the end of this thing. I could be wrong. But, when does THAT ever happen?

Instead, it was a stampede. Started intentionally, for dubious reasons. And after that happened, the horse was already out of the barn. Even smarter folk had bought in to the narrative.

Smart people sometimes do stupid things. Stupid people, will occasionally do smart things. But for the most part, stupid people do more stupid things on a regular basis. Pour a jug of panic over both groups? You got smart people doing more stupid things than they normally do. And the stupid are on steroids, and LSD.

Ax.....I'm with ya if I understand where you are going. I intentionally stayed away from assessing media/politicians and their motives because that is out of bounds.

We all have our circles. My friends have been pretty calm about the whole thing: reflecting on what they learn; abiding, whether they agree or not, on what they are told to do. None of us, obviously, take any joy in those who have contracted the virus. We all just want it over with so we can start the aftermath actions and get on with our lives.

As a side bar, I still don't get the run on TP. Water I understand. Care to splain? :)

One constant I've heard, from practically every rational person is, "I don't get the run on TP".
It's a bigger riddle than "Who shot J.R."

Mike said it started down under.

Before I hit the rack tonight: putting aside all the uncertainties....be safe, be smart......protect your families. Wishing no one is impacted by the disease or it's aftermath. Don't listen to the fools, opportunists or ideologues. Do your homework, talk to your friends, figure out who you can trust and then act according to your values.

Bless all of you.
