As a fun aside...we got 3 inches of rain in less than 12 hours the other night and my frggin sump pump died in the middle of it. I'm sitting here in my home office basement after I had to gut it. Luckily I got it all out before mold set in. but man what a nightmare, my home office/entertainment room and bike/workshop are on this floor. Talk about hell getting it cleared out! Going to buy paint and other supplies to get ready fro the rebuild today. I guess the upside is it will give me something to do!

As an aide, rumor has it that since the on-set of Corona-virus the death rate has gone down in Chicago.

Well, my 8th grader is ok with it. :)

My daughter is (was, I guess) a senior. She was in chorus and now there won't be any farewell concert to honor the seniors, there won't be a Prom. There won't be a graduation. She was going to go to Europe over Spring Break with with some of her English class, something she's been saving up for for a year and a half, and that's been cancelled.

She's pretty bummed.

For me, I work from my basement so not a lot has changed. :) Although this weekend my biggest, bread-and-butter client informed me they are suspending publishing for at least three months, so my revenue stream has dried up. I'm finishing up the month and then the kids and I will apparently get some serious quality time together. I guess that's a silver lining.

The homicide rate has been going down in Chicago for three years. Do you really want to open that can of worms right now?
 
There is no need for it. Blaming politicians, or anything else here can happen AFTER the cure is found and we can all go out and about as far as I'm concerned.
 
Some government officials already calling for a reduction in restrictions, for America to get back to work, and for those 70 and over to "look out for themselves."

This emergency has become a political football already.

We are waiting for Gov. DeWine to cancel schools for the remainder of the year.

If schools and daycares are both closed but adults have to go back to work, that is A LOT of money coming out of pocket that wasn't expected to. Single parents are going to be hit much harder than us, but we are nervous too.

I wasn't bringing it up to discuss the politics of it and no, that isn't where I want this to go.

I should have left the commentary off the reported action.

It will be turned into a political divide, but I think we have to look at both health risks and what’s important in ensuring our economy survives. It is not an either/or choice. We have to vigilantly make decisions with both priorities in mind.

1. That was humor implicitly referencing government action (or lack thereof) for another issue that has had a high fatality rate for years.
2. The appropriate analogy: that's like saying the Titanic is taking on less water because more than half of it has already submerged.

Moving on.
 
And reasonable people should be able to acknowledge that the health and safety of the American people have to come first but we also need to do everything possible to keep our economy and jobs market from collapsing. Again - it’s not either/or and reasonable people should be able to see that. That rules out most of our politicians.

Agree 100%. This needs to be a multi-disciplinary set of actions.

As for political divide: that condition existed long before the beer virus and will persist long into the future. Sad. But that is existential (and ideological/political) reality. I do not expect that to change.

Getting back to the disease challenge in front of us since all other paths lead down a road of no-return.
 
Framework is dry thankfully, but I just went and got supplies. Gotta wait for an inspection for mold spores before we start rebuilding. Luckily the water level was never more than a half inch, it was just total coverage.

sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt tested positive for COVID.

A fully staff underway carrier holds between 5-7k worth of sailors. That is really bad news. Right now they are somewhere in the Pacific waiting.
