Coronavirus - COVID19

My PO came by today, asked how I was dealing with the coronavirus. I said I'm an anti-social introvert with an anxiety disorder, I've been in quarantine for 40 years.
 
our local restaurants are getting clever with their delivery and deals"

Buy their dinner special - 2 rolls of TP free
Buy their dinner special - bottle of wine for cheap
Buy their dinner special - growler of beer for cheap

We are still sticking to 2x a week, but it is REALLY hard to pick which place now since they are doing more for us.

We did a local brewery for their Taco Tuesday last night and they gave us a growler of their NE IPA. How can you beat that? Dude wiped the growler down with a Clorox wipe, wiped our bag down, and put it in the back seat of my truck. It isn't 100%, but it is as safe as I can think to be.
 
Yeah, every time I try to muster the courage to buy something from one of these restaurants, I remember my days in the biz and I end up eating at home. I don't trust them to be vigilant enough.

I'm sure some try, but I am always reminded of the line cook who never washed his hand after going taking a dump, no matter how many times I tried to get the GM to make him wash his hands.

You know how a line cook check the temps of as piece of meat on the grill? Most poke it with their finger. Needless to say I never ate a cheeseburger when that guy was on the grill.

And...that and many other stories after 10 years in restaurant life have caused me to be way more cautious with carry out. I just cannot do it.
 
Yeah, one of the local breweries here started giving out a free roll of TP with every beer-to-go purchase last week after Dallas County closed the taprooms. It was a "while supplies last" promo. Pretty funny.

One local restaurant run by a friend of mine has completely pivoted to a whole new affordable take out menu and offering delivery using their usual wait staff as drivers.

Since they are on reduced staff and everyone is on edge, I am 99% sure they do all they can to ensure cleanliness.

This isn't McDonalds or some fast food joint. This is a small town place trying to stay afloat. it may not be perfect, but I am not going to think of a bad incident to ruin my chance of helping.
 
I am literally down to a single roll of TP. I stopped by my local grocery today. They got 'resupplied' with paper products yesterday and were already completely out. No TP, no napkins, no paper towels, no baby wipes. I'm going to end up using cat litter or coffee filters...I may have to flip a coin. Truth is - I'll steal a roll or two from my employer if I have to. People are a bunch of hoarding, every-man-for-himself-MFers. So not proud to be an American these days.
 
I'd give you some from my stash if you were here. We didn't have to hoard..we are trying to store more things like that for these reasons

I applaud you for it, brother. And I don't doubt most of these places are doing their very best to ensure the public's safety.

I just spent entirely too much time in the restaurant business to know how much of the every day stuff they do can be very unsanitary. And I'm talking some of the finest restaurants in Palm Beach County, FL.

I simply can't pull the trigger.

You should have seen me at the grocery store last night picking up my mother's prescription. I was nauseous standing in line thinking about the people around me and how I did not want to be near any of them.

I believe this whole TP craze thing started in Australia. some radio DJ made a joke and it went from there. My wife showed me video after video of it and we just shook our heads.

Seeing this for the first time this morning, so, I'm assuming it's up to date.
A quick look at the Death per Million, and the Confirmed Case Fatality rate numbers, show that, as of now, we are doing pretty damn good in comparison to countries like Italy, Spain, and others.

Damn good.

Our leadership, from the President, to our health officials, hospitals, doctors and nurses, etc...are doing an awesome job, considering the circumstances.
Majority of Americans are doing good too. Unfortunately, assholes shine brighter. Making them impossible to NOT see.

This madness makes my landlord look like a visionary for installing a bidet in here 6 months ago.
 
In the most apolitical way possible - I generally think the Federal government, CDC, and state and local officials have done an amazing job making the response to this the highest priority and communicating as much as is possible with the American people. There are always those who, never having been responsible for managing a huge crisis, are going to toss grenades from the bleachers and be critical no matter what. But I think in this case, no one could've seen the scope and speed with which this became a worldwide issue coming. In light of that, I think the response has been rather amazing.

Why can’t GM just start pumping out respirators? During WW2 we built B-52’s in an hour!

a Sr VP said "You wanted Mike...to come up with a plan for a pandemic that nobody saw coming?"

That guy is a real dick turd.
 
There are some truly amazing people out there. $5 million! Drew Brees offering $5 million!


 
My only critique would be of the FDA getting things tied up in a bureaucratic mess for testing and otherwise. There was so much delay on that which caused some of the chain failures seen.

Other than that, It seems like things are being taken seriously, even if the messaging can sometimes be uneven. Don't care much for how sensationalized the press is about it, but that isn't the government's fault.
