Confirmed Signings

I agree with Utah. On top of that Stokely played for Shanny at one time, so he will adapt quickly. I have no problems with these additions.

I also think that Stallworth and Stokely do not make it to the regular season.

And Roydell Williams won't be here either.

Edited to add: Ditto for Mike Furrey.

From Rich Tandler:

A look at the (shifting) wide receiver depth chart

Let’s take a look at the wide receiver depth chart in the wake of the return of Santana Moss, the trade for Jabar Gaffney, and the pending signings of Donte Stallworth and Brandon Stokley.

The Redskins now have 14 wide receivers on their roster—Moss, Stallworth, Gaffney, Anthony Armstrong, Leonard Hankerson, Terrence Austin, Taurus Johnson, Brandon Banks, Malcolm Kelly, Niles Paul, Maurice Price, Roydell Williams and Aldrick Robinson.

That seems like a big number and it is a little bit high for a 90-man training camp roster. The most that the Redskins will be able to carry on the roster is six. Moss, Armstrong, and Hankerson certainly have spots. You have to figure that Johnson, Price, and Williams are long shots to make it. The practice squad is a logical place for Robinson to land.

That leaves three spots—at most as the Redskins might decide to carry only five WR’s—for Austin, Kelly, Paul, Stallworth, Banks, and Gaffney. Banks, of course, was the team’s return specialist last year. Although he was explosive at times, new rules moving kickoffs up five yards may diminish his value. It would help if he could play receiver, something he did infrequently last year.

If you give Banks a spot, that is two for the other five to compete for. Gaffney would seem to have an edge with his experience a solid season a year ago in Denver, but we will have to see how it all plays out in training camp.

Another edge for Gaffney—since the Redskins traded for him, he will be able to start practice right away. Stallworth will have to wait until Aug. 4.

Paul could go to the practice squad as could Austin.

so stokely adapts quickly but doesnt make the squad?

Yep, I think he is here for the pre-season. He will help the young guys learn their routes. We need to get our QBs in shape. How do they get quality time in when the recievers are running the wrong routes?

Stokely adapts quickly, you will see a lot of him in preseason and then he will be cut. I don't see us keeping a 35 year old reciever over a younger faster one with more potential.

Of course, I am probably wrong :)

I'll continue to pull for Mighty Mouse...Banks was a real threat to take one to the house before he got hurt. Even if he's nothing more than an occasional change of pace WR, healthy he's the best returner we've had in years.

I think its also a make-or-break camp for Kelly. He's GOT to stay healthy. If he can, I think he has a spot.

What just happened???

Haynesworth???

Edited to add: Argh. I have the audio/link for ESPN 980 going and they said something about Haynesworth being on his way out.

I'm in the middle of making supper and heard something along these lines. Not talking about it now. Maybe it was just speculation.

My guess is the team won't keep Kelly as Paul has similar skills without the injury history. Brandon Banks is one dimensional and seems to have a lot of off the field issues and Austin/Paul return kicks as well.

I don't expect Stokely to make the team but with 65 catches for a 13.6 per catch average I don't know why everyone is down on Gaffney.

Gaffney benefitted from being in a pass heavy offense with McDaniels last year. He hasn't impressed much before his stop in Denver, much the same as Brandon Lloyd. He could be solid, but I don't see him as anything more than a placeholder for the youngsters.

RavensInsider

Ravens lose CB Josh Wilson to the Redskins. DeMatha Catholic and U. Maryland graduate stays in the area.

Last I saw on Fat Albert-

Chris Russell

Just saw @PhilDayz93 here at #Redskins Park. Still no Albert, in case you were wondering. A team source says "it will be a circus."

LL56 is saying that Shanahan has "something up his sleeve".

Little guy. What's he all of 5' 9"?

About Banks...

Been listening to 980 a good part of the day and they have been saying that Banks is on notice. He is not well liked at Redskins Park and that includes players.

Wilson and Santana will renew aquaintances-

Wilson's numbers: three years, $13.5 million, including $6 million guaranteed.

Edited to add...

From ProFootballFocus.com
QBs throwing at Carlos Rogers last season had a 95.2 rating. Throwing at Josh Wilson they were just 67.8 - DC upgraded.

Another edit: Grant Paulsen doesn't think we are done at CB. There is chatter out there saying that if Buchanon doesn't re-sign, then Jonathan Joseph becomes plan B.
