Competence and Accountability World Tour Has Started

What the hell are you people talking about? Did I see someone try to defend FOX News? Really? I am as conservative as they come, voted Repub is every election, but to characterize FOX News as anything other than the media arm of the right is nuts. Diversify people, diversify.

O'Reilly frequently uses Juan Williams to guest host his show.

Let me know when Olbermann lets Sarah Palin guest host his show.

should we stick to what the topic today is and the topic that is in this thread and try to stay relevant?

Well, since the topic was the relative "newsworthiness" of Jon Stewart vs. Fox news, I'd say that link is right in line and very topical. You know, because it directly deals with that very thing. However, in respect to the board, I'll drop it now before your feelings get hurt and you threaten to punch me.

They have found a way to get viewership and make money, more power to them. So has Jon Stewart. MSNBC? Not so much. Maybe one day they will get viewers, but not any time soon.

If any of you are relying on any ONE of these "sources" exclusively for how you view the world, good luck to ya. I watch JS every night, to be entertained. If I want news and analysis, I check Google News or the Economist.

Diversify people, diversify.

This is the key, really. You can't rely on any one source anymore - Fox, MSNBC, CNN, comedy central, a father - because everything is biased. I regularly listen to conservative talk radio as well as read various websites & blogs, in addition to huffpo & NPR so that I can get both sides of the argument and make my own decision. There really is no perfect formula however.

You can rely on ol' Sarge to set you straight. Told you all this would happen before my exile from the other site

Now, repeat after me

All Democrats are communists.

There. You're set:)

Haha, nice. I stand corrected!

I always liked Juan Williams even though he was too liberal for my taste. And even though I dont particularly care for O'Reilly they had good debates.

I’m a conservative, but I refuse to watch O’Reilly when Laura Ingram guest hosts but I always make it a point to watch when Williams is the host. You can bet with Ingram that the liberal and conservative guests will get into a shouting match with Ingram joining in so that you can’t hear what either of them are trying to say. (O’Reilly also falls into that trap sometimes.) Williams generally manages to let both sides have their say, without interruption so that you can actually hear their point. Maybe it’s because he is such a classy guy that everyone tries to be polite around him.

I wish Fox would give him his own show

O'Reilly frequently uses Juan Williams to guest host his show.

So one of the half-dozen ultra-conservative talk show hosts on Fox occasionally has a liberal sit in for him. That makes Fox a centrist news outlet?

Let me know when Olbermann lets Sarah Palin guest host his show.

If he did or didn't how would that make Fox any more or less biased?

All that said, I actually like O'Reilly. He's by far the most watchable of the talking heads on Fox, and I when I want to hear a conservative slant on something I'll watch his show for it.

No one is denying that Fox is conservative just like MSNBC, CNN, the Washington Post, NYT are liberal. But on Fox you at least get to hear both sides and the liberals are (usually) treated with respect.

As far as Fox being ultra-conservative? I guess that’s a matter of perspective. Like I said, to me Maine is a southern state. You calling Fox ultra conservative tells me more about your location on the political spectrum than it does about Fox.

Mike, I like John Thune for 2012 but he lacks national recognition. I believe he will take a run at it; he has yet to rule out a bid. He has all the tangibles it seems we are looking for in a President today, strong presence, good-looking, smart, well-spoken (though at times he stammers, but not as bad as Mr Teleprompter himself), and he ran a tough campaign against then Senate Minority leader Tom Daschle so he is seasoned.

I believe he would be a perfect candidate with Marco Rubio as his running partner. Unfortunately, Newt, Mitt and Sarah will be too strong for Thune. One thing I hope is that Sarah Palin does not run! She is as divisive as Obama! She will hurt the Republican party with her rhetoric. We can see it already with Angle and O'Donnell losing their races, races which should have been Republican gains!

I don’t think Palin will run. I think that she will play coy as long as she can and then try to play king-maker. Oddly enough, it would be to her advantage if the Republican lost in 2012 so she could play coy again until 2016, thereby keeping Sarah Palin, Inc.s profits high.

After Obama, I don’t think the country is going to be in the mood for any sort of celebrity candidate. I think serious and professional is going to win the day.

So Juan Wiliams = Sarah Palin in your world? Huh.

Besides which O'Reilly using Williams doesn't legitimize FOX News. Again, if you watch them because you want opinion delivered by someone who thinks the same way you do, that's cool, i get that. But if you are allowing their opinion to shape how you view the world because you believe their opinion is fact because they categorize themselves as news... well, good luck. Straight reporting it's not.

Actually neither the left nor the right knows anything about Sarah Palin.

I realize that O’Reilly is an opinion show. But because he includes liberal guests, you get multiple opinions and there is nothing wrong with having your views shaped by multiple opinions. A far as straight reporting goes, it simply doesn’t exist anymore (if it ever really did.) That’s why I read the Washington Post, the New York Times as well as the National Review and the Weekly Standard. That way I get multiple view points.

And besides that I can always talk to my socialist son and get my butt whipped by him in a debate.

Alaskan....they don't get it. of course we ALL leaven our personal experience and expertise into the equation. the point is that when choosing among evils...Fox is way less disingenuous, manipulative and outright fraudulent than the more liberal outlets. the American people (or at least those segments who pay attention) are finally catching on to the true byline for liberals and liberal media:

- they don't give a damn about minorities, diversity, etc.. what they care about is power. look at how they absolutely savage ANY minority, woman, etc., who doesn't conform to the "agenda"

- they care more about ends, at all costs, than they do about "facts" and professional "ethics". look at journolist, global warming, "in depth" reporting on Obama in 2008, and a thousand other examples. sure Fox has an agenda....but look at the numbers....they don't lie. like it or not....the numbers say more and more people DON'T TRUST the increasingly liberal mainstream media and are turning to Fox to fil lthe void.

- the rhyme about arrogance and elitism happens to ring true. anyone who has grown up around more liberally inclined thinkers...as I did in Bethesda, MD, knows this to be a bedrock truth. the rest of the country is more focused on this now that they don't have jobs and are trying to figure out why

- liberals are crass hypocrites. at least Repubs know when to STFU. my personal favorite is the eternal class warfare games Dems generally, and libs specifically, like to play. look at these people! the libs are all cutting deals on the side or are outright corrupt when it comes to making their riches. or many just marry into it and protect their little piece of the rock (see Nancy and the tuna industry). nothing is more galling than the arrant contempt these people have for the average Joe. the hypocrisy is simply breathtaking: multiple houses, gas guzzling cars, jet setting all over the globe.......and then the ***ks have the gall to incessantly lecture us about global warming. their zoned off lilly white neighborhoods. their mendacity - I knew one lib back in the day who was a prominent (read lead) spokesperson for one Presidential candidate...on TV frequently lecturing us...all the while nursing a nice drug problem and regularly visiting a shrink - is appalling.

- Obama's contempt for the people is in a category all by itself. I have to confess he is the best I have seen in 40 years at the play-pretend aspects of political communication. he has mastered the art of coming on TV and mixing his language in a way that it seems he's using the sing-song and colloquialisms of Joe Average, every now and then sprinkling in a turn of the phrase or diction common to drunk undergraduate communications majors waxing philosophic to rope the "intellectuals" back in, all the while making no commitments whatsoever ("I'll consider"). Look who he has brought to the party with him. Look at who he has hired for his czars and his political appointees. look at who he trusted to execute his agenda at the other end of PA Avenue. Look who is on the WH visitors log. Look at how he has conducted himself on foreign forays. Look at how a lot of the stimulus money was really spent and the promises he made up front on how "Sheriff Joe" was going to police matters. Look at how he uses people like Paul Volcker - feigning his interest in "new" ideas all the while keeping to his personal agenda regardless of how the bulk of the American people feel about it. It's all a big sham......and many Americans are starting to figure out they have been taken to the cleaners.

- The latent violence lurking in much liberal scribbling is truly appalling. I can't relate the number of times I visited liberal blogs in the run-up to the last election and experienced verbal violence. in one instance, on a well known lib blog for a well known paper in the DC area, one frequent "guiding light" poster went so far as to wish for the death of the then sitting President. Did the moderators or the well known pundit step in and publicly admonish the poster? NO. Nothing at all was done....except the duty "I'm with you" notes of sympathy from other well intentioned, highly principled liberal posters.

- These folks are simply wrong in their prognostications so frequently that it is a wonder anyone trusts them. 8% unemployment anyone? Democrat rule for a century anyone? My own belief is that they simply extrapolate too much from their own emotional wellsprings onto the public at large - consistently misjudging human behavior and social movements. this is one reason they have been working so diligently over the last quarter century and more to undermine the media message and the chalkboard lessons in the school system. they are so off the mark they have to change perceived reality to suit their ambitions.

- Let's face it...follow the policies of these morons and you are looking at bankruptcy. in state after state.....that is what is happening.

Personally, I find most offensive the implicit liberal notion that the individual counts for almost nothing. aside from who can marry who and what orifice one can stick his appendage into...the individual counts for nothing in the liberal cannon. you, me, we...all here to serve a State enforced since of collectivist right and wrong. that right and wrong...of course....to be determined by a class of privileged elites (the social "scientists"). You and I don't, in the end, count for **it to these people. what matters to them is how many they can kill at both ends to control population growth, how much work they can get out of us to finance their morally relativistic but "oh so certain" causes, how much behavior they can control to ensure we all live an extra 5 months, how many exclusionary rights they can exercise to preserve their zoned off ocean views, how many of our kids they can keep out of their exclusive private schools...and the list goes on and on.

and they wonder why the folks doing the heavy lifting are starting to get really PO'd. they wonder why these same folks, beginning to understand how they are being played for suckers, see how racial enmities are being stoked to manipulate the electorate.

they wonder how it is we can't see the "intelligent design" behind their religion.

they, regrettably, and sadly, are the enemy within.

Wow Al. Tell us how ya really feel.

I will grant you that most of what you say about corruptness in the Democratic party is absolutely correct. But you do realize the exact same things can be said about Republicans right? Is your contention because the Repubs are less hypocritical it makes their corruption more acceptable?

Kinda silly, imo.

Al...you know, from a political and world view vantage point, I am inclined to agree with a lot of what you say. I'll also say though that I think you largely cheapen your argument and fall short of what you're capable of intellectually when you use 35 or 40 instances of 'they' in an argument.

Who are 'they'?

Liberals? What is a liberal? Are the all unanimous in their opinions, motivations, core beliefs, sincerity (or lack thereof)?

You know the answer to that.

'They' is a dangerous word. I've used it plenty too. And yes - I understand it's tough to have a conversation without using it. But what I've found in life is that when we reach a point where we are mentally lumping folks into a homogenous group and applying an array of negatives to them, we've probably lost our way a little bit. That's not to say that we can't and shouldn't hold groups accountable for the consensus they reach, the initiatives they try to move forward, etc... but the generalities just fuel the whole problem with American politics today - which is that individuals have subverted their individual core beliefs in order to sustain long-term power (often at any cost). It's why I decided I am in favor of term limits across all major offices (something I previously wouldn't have supported).

We are a society of 'theys'. It's human nature to think that way. I think it goes all the way back to when we were in tribes, not states and nations. But we've got to start looking at people as individuals again and dealing with them that way.

My opinion.

Liberals? What is a liberal? Are the all unanimous in their opinions, motivations, core beliefs, sincerity (or lack thereof)?

As a FAUX News watching, racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, stupid Astroturf tea bagger supporting conservative, I would have to say that Liberals would never, ever engage in group think driven dismissive, intolerant, or belittling behavior.

Happy now?

I'm always happy Alaskan, but thanks for checking.

Oh looky here, evidence of Sean Hannity falsifying video footage to make a rally look bigger. Caught by none other than John Stewart: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/11/jon-stewart-catches-sean_n_353447.html

Stewart has writers, this is for sure, but he's also appeared on other shows sans writers, and held his own (Crossfire, for example). I don't think its fair to instantly dismiss him just because of the forum he presents from.

Im sure stewart has been guilty of the same thing just like cnn has msnbc abc and cbs has but its only ok to demonize fox
