Challenge: YOU Predict the final 53

That's a good list BB. My only changes would be...

-Darion Scott makes team at DL
-Chris Nield cut(we pick up another player for PS)

I think any final 53 without Darion Scott is incorrect - the kid has impressed. He will make the team for sure.

You're cutting Austin? I think that would be a huge mistake. He was the best story of the preseason and excelled in whatever quarter they put him in. Even against starters.

I like that you kept Gomes.

My WR's would probably be Moss, Gaffney, Armstrong, Austin, Hankerson, and Banks (but I could see them going with Paul or Stallworth instead of Banks) The little guy just makes plays though.

He had the same type of preseason last year too, it was a tough choice for me, but I think Stallworth is worth more since Banks will be returning kicks. If Banks was not in the equation Autsin would definitely been there. And that is a major change because I thought one way or the other Banks was gone.

Oops! I didn't read the whole thread before this post.

I think they choose Austin over Stallworth every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Just my 2 cents though.

You may be right since we have veteran depth with Moss and Gaffney, but Hankerson will take at least another season before hitting full stride, Arsmtrong will be a solid #3, Banks will rarely see the field on offense so it comes down to who they feel comfortable with coming off the bench...solid depth or youth. I understand the youth movement, and I like Austin, but after seeing Stallworth playing special teams last night I think the edge goes to him unless Austin is returning kicks. If that is the case Banks is not there and the 2 of them make it. Plus I didn't pay much attention to it, but last night I noticed Austin is kinda small too.

On a side note: I hate to see Paul on the PS. Did you guys notice that Paul was gaining on Banks at about the 35 yard line on the TD return? Paul seems to have speed, just not the burst that gets Banks into the open field.

To be honest, it doesn't bode well for Stallworth that he was still in the game to catch the game-winning TD. I think the decision hasn't been made (if it had, he wouldn't have been playing). I don't envy the decision makers, that's for sure!

The funny thing is, the coaches are sitting in a room somewhere all day today and early tomorrow having this same conversation as they review films and prepare to make the cuts by noon tomorrow.

I can see Stallworth being let go. I just keep going back to the practice I attended and how professional he was. That goes a long way in my decision making when it is such a close competition. Youth is important, but Austin is the same as Anthony Armstrong to me.

I also think it was unfortunate that the QB play was so horrible in the Red Zone last night and the play calling was questionable as well. On 3 separate occasions right in front of me they had Hankerson lined up one on one and never once tried a fade route in the corner. They did call a decent play to Paul in the flat (1 yard deep in the end zone) and it looked like Beck made a bad throw, but I think Paul ran the route too deep. Anyway, on the 2 int's Stallworth was the target. I wonder if they wanted to see what he could do in the red zone. Who knows how that will play into it?

What do you think of about my pick of Brandyn Thompson over Westbrook?

Well, I haven't seen the game yet (may catch it on NFLN replay) but Twitter was blowing up over this kid. I think he's got a good chance of making the roster, and I stole that prediction. ;) Plus, the more I thought about it, Wesbtrook has been here how many seasons now? He should be playing more by now, IMO.

(2) QB - Grossman, Beck
(3) RB - Hightower, Torain, and Helu
(2) FB - Young, Williams
(7)WR - Moss, Gaffney, Armstrong, Austin, Hankerson, Banks, Paul
(3)TE - Cooley, Davis, Paulsen
(8) OL - Williams, Lichtensteiger, Montgomery, Chester, Brown, Locklear, Cook and Hicks
(7) DL - Cofield, Bryant, Bowen, Golston, Carriker, Scott, Worthington
(8) LB - Fletcher, McIntosh, Orakpo, Kerrigan, Jackson, Riley, Fox and Alexander,
(5) S - Landry, Atogwe, Gomes, Doughty, and Shannon + Moore (pup list)
(5) CB - Hall, Wilson, Barnes, Thompson, Westbrook +Buchanon (4-game susp)
(3) Specialists - Rocca, Gano, Sundberg
(8) PS - White, Nield, Robinson, W. Smith, Royster, Hurt, Raiolo, and Draughn

* N. Paul won't be on the Skins Practice Squad because he won't make it through waivers. If they want him he has to be one of the fifty-three.

** I like Shannon at Safety! This is a crazy predictions that could be wrong.

*** Banks makes it! Sorry he could score everytime he touches the ball.

2 Fullbacks and one of them not Sellers?

7 Receivers? Paul has done nothing to deserve the spot over Stallworth. Austin, probably. Paul, no.

I understand the youth movement, but Stallworth is still young enough to give us 3 years of service if he is selected over Austin, but he has done more than enough to be chosen over Paul. I should say in my estimation.

I think we need more O-line depth than carrying 7 WR's and/or 2 FB's.

I get what you are saying. I just think the upside of Paul or Austin is much higher than any backup OL we have. If Paul or Austin get cut we'll lose them both. Keiland Williams as the 2nd fullback is more of an assumption than anything else. He caught forty passes last year but who knows. We'll find out soon.

I still think once the season starts it's going to be different. We don't have enough depth on either line.

Brandyn Thompson has cover ability of which Byron Westbrook has ZERO. Westbrook is strictly a special teamer and can't be called on in an crucial situation to play CB.

Thompson is raw and he needs to learn to turn his head around and anticipate the ball in the air better, but he sticks to his man and doesn't get lost running across the field as so many rookies do.

He really played well the past 2 games and I think the coaches decided that with Westbrook a non-factor in coverage and Buchanon suspended for 4 weeks that the team needed a #5 that could fill in if necessary.

What will be interesting is when Buchanon comes back because he didn't have a great 2010 season and as indicated Westbrook is a guy who has been here for 4 years but hasn't improved a lick at CB.

You can only go so far until the team finds another guy that can also cover kicks and punts but can also show some upside in the regular defense as well.
