So, here it is, the annual predict the roster thread. You can edit your post until the final cut down day, which I've seen as September 3rd, but can't find anything concrete.

Anyway, this is just for fun. I enjoy it! Here is my crack:

2 QB: Grossman, Beck
3 RB: Helu, Hightower, Torain
1 FB: Young
3 TE: Cooley, Davis, Paulsen
6 WR: Moss, Hankerson, Austin, Armstrong, Gaffney, Banks
9 OL: Williams, Lichtensteiger, Chester, Montgomery, Brown, Cook, Locklear, Hicks, Oldenburg

4 CB: Hall, Wilson, Barnes, Thompson, Buchanon*
5 S: Atogwe, Doughty, Landry, Shannon, Gomes
8 LB: Fletcher, Riley, Kerrigan, Jackson, Orakpo, Blades, Alexander, McIntosh
8 DL: Cofield, Bryant, Bowen, Golston, Carriker, Nield, Scott, Worthington

3 Specialists: Rocca, Graham, Sundberg

*Buchanon doesn't count against roster for first 4 games (suspension)

Can't say I see it much differently. I got a feeling Tatupu gets signed and is in the rotation as one of the ILB's.

Looks like Gholston was just resigned, so it will be interesting to see who is the odd man out on the defensive line.

Austin over Robinson or Niles Paul?
 
Yeah, Niles Paul may unseat Austin. Need to hear more about him in camp - so far all three have been pretty quiet. I don't think Robinson makes the team, most likely headed for the practice squad.
 
Artis Hicks looks like he may be playing himself off the roster at age 33. He is getting beaten routinely by rookies and UDFAs.

I think the Redskins will acquire one or even two veteran OL during camp or the preseason.

At wide receiver, I don't see Shanahan waiving both Paul and Robinson. Austin didn't get a call up last year until very late and the competition is a lot better this season.

You guys are doing it wrong...make your predictions!
 
I predict:

1. The swing OT/G is not on this team currently and Hicks who was penciled into that spot earlier will be a camp casualty. Smith as a UDFA won't make it either as he is too raw and doesn't know the system.

2. Terrence Austin won't make the final roster as Paul plays ST and gives the team more at WR.

3. Jackson won't make the team at DE.

4. The Redskins will sign a vet linebacker and that will spell the end for Robert Henson and/ or HB Blades.

5. Gano always looks good in preseason and camp. Tough one here but I see Shanahan going with Gano, at least to start the season.

The other picks look good.

Reed Doughty is one name left off the list. He seems to have more lives than a cat. Horton could be the odd man out.

Austin returned kicks in college, and also in preseason last year.

Doughty hasn't re-signed yet. If he does, he'd replace Russell.

Went ahead and switched out Paul & Austin. Reports coming in that he looks the part.
 
The number should be 53. That is still the roster limit and the one extra is allowed for a game - 46 instead of 45.

Mike Sellers made on heck of a run of it in the final pre-season game, but I think we move on, no way we keep 2 FB's and he's not a TE.

Edit: I misunderstood the new Final Roster rules and thought it was 54 and the one extra had to be a QB so since I have 1 too many Clemens is cut! If Jenkins was not on the IR Neild would have been PS material, but we need another NT and he was eating up some blockers, albeit against 2nd and 3rd teamers.

You're cutting Austin? I think that would be a huge mistake. He was the best story of the preseason and excelled in whatever quarter they put him in. Even against starters.

I like that you kept Gomes.

My WR's would probably be Moss, Gaffney, Armstrong, Austin, Hankerson, and Banks (but I could see them going with Paul or Stallworth instead of Banks) The little guy just makes plays though.
 
I think many people are going to be surprised.

Younger players especially picks made in 2011 are going to be kept and average vets may be let go or traded.

One pick from 2010, Terrence Austin, I think has made the team at wide receiver.

I also don't think it is certain Torain will be kept.

WTEM rumors indicate Golston and McIntosh could be trade bait.

What are we looking at for either of them? 6th rounder if we get lucky?
 
Nice job, El - except you have 54 players making the final roster. Gotta cut one more.
 
Updated my prediction in the first post - in order to keep more youngsters around, the Skins will need to go with only 2 QBs.
