My best friend texted this to me this morning.

About 15 years ago, my best friend and his wife went on a vacation with my wife and I to Key West and Miami. We stopped in Islamorada for lunch on the drive down to Key West. Ate at a beautiful place on the water that had a huge indoor-outdoor seating area that went right out to the beach. My friend’s wife noticed Gene Hackman sitting with Betsy at a table a few away, more under cover. The place was not very busy, and of course, we all turned to look. We talked about asking for an autograph/selfie, and decided against bothering them. On the way out, I tipped my cap to Hackman (which my friend’s wife did not see me do), and he smiled and nodded back. My friend’s wife was all excited saying, “He smiled and nodded at us!”
 
Not a celebrity to any of you but definitely one to me.

I’ll be with you again soon Dad at Arlington National Cemetery.

When people die, the narrative often changes. We repeat all the good things but it never feels "real" because most of us were taught not to speak ill of the dead. For that reason, I love the following eulogy of Feinstein written by Dan Steinberg. Not that it speaks ill of John. I don't think it does but it also doesn't gloss over the warts. It feels authentic. Real. It is how I hope those who knew me will speak of me someday.

If there’s anyone who can recognize and celebrate ‘abrasive’ and ‘pompous’, it’s Dan Steinberg. Nice remembrance though. I wonder if Feinstein would appreciate it as much as Dan thinks he might?
 
I’m too young to remember George boxing, but am old enough to remember the George Foreman grill phase. In fact, we owned one early in our marriage. The guy became a big celebrity for a while in his post boxing days. RIP George.
 
Wings Hauser - RIP RIP's dad.

The way Cole found out who his father was, is almost a 'Luke, I am your Father", kinda moment.



Wings left Cole’s mother Cass Warner when Cole was just two years old, and he didn’t know who his dad was until he was around nine or 10.

When asked how old he was when he realized what his father did for a living, the Yellowstone actor replied, “That’s a good question. I think I was about nine or 10 years old, something like that.

“Yeah. I saw him on TV, and I didn’t know he was my dad. I waited for the finish of the film, and I saw Wings Hauser [in the credits].


“So, I went into my mom’s room, and I said, ‘Hey mom. I just saw a guy on TV, his name’s Wings Hauser.’ And she looked at me and went: ‘Wow!’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I saw this guy.’ And she goes, ‘Yeah, well, let’s talk about that.’

“And so, she explained to me who he was. And that’s how I found out about my dad.”
