Ok Fandom. I've bounced around the various sites, and as may be expected THE injury has spurred no shortage of discussions on our QB situations. But lets just put all of that crap behind us and try to enjoy a little of what happened today. For the first time in I can't even remember how long, this team threw down a beating in all phases of the game. We have a punt returner that understands the direction he should be running. I don't know what to say about the defense. Two good showings in a row. No real complaints about the scheme. It didn't go soft when they had a good lead. The only bad plays for the D seem to be a personnel issue. One person in particular. Props to Haz. The offense executed today. The line was good, running was excellent, and we got great performances out of some unlikely players. The play calling was good. I find encouragement that it seems Gruden is able to adapt. Maybe the most impressive thing is that they did it to a team they should have. That is an important point IMO. They've been the kings of playing down to the level of the competition for so long that we've come to expect failure when playing lesser teams. They had a 'Team' vibe today that's been absent for a long time. Players coming to the defense of others. Maybe it's an aberration, but it gives me hope. Most of all it was so nice to have a big lead and never relinquish it. I could get used to that.

If we don't fumble three times we are 2-0 and our offense is being praised as much as our defense.

That is a key right there.
Most everyone around here seems to want to downplay the win, being against a very bad team. But for the Redskins to completely dominate, even a bad team, is a monumental accomplishment.
The Redskins of many years past, would have either lost this game, or made it really close.

We needed a game like this (minus the injuries of course), we needed to put up a massive amount of points against the jags. It was nice when the 4th quarter rolled around that we were going to run the ball down their throats and there wasn't a thing they could do to stop us!

Niles Paul is a baller! Dude was taking a beating and kept catching footballs thrown his way...except the one blatant drop. Looks like he finally made the transition from WR to TE.

There is a lot to be happy with. Heck, even the fact that we have a capable backup QB should be enjoyed. I'm going to try to ignore the controversy and enjoy each game.

I think this makes the leash on Reed very short. He's gotta wake up and step or he might be gone.

glad we won a game that we should win, but im not gonna start throwing a superbowl party yet. the defence looked good against a bottom 5 team, the Oline looked ok against a team that might end up being worse than we were last year. but morris looked solid.

I'm just glad we don't have to read all the excuses about how T. Williams penalty cost us a TD, penalties in general, the OL sucks, the refs on the D. Jax catch, and all those dropped passes that Cousins put right in their chest costing us the game because we actually made up for all of it by scoring 41 points.

Now we actually get to the difficult part of the schedule so if we win 2 of the next 4 we might be for real.

I really like your outlook, Stevenaa. With the horrible ref no-catch call & review, to the soul-crushing injury to RG3 followed a couple plays later with a shoulder/ clavicle injury Jackson, it would be easy to just sink down into the pits of despair, thinking we're cursed. However, I too like to look on the bright side of every bad circumstance and there were several bright spots today.

I'd say the primary positive thing I noticed today is that our team didn't fall apart after losing our QB to a terrible injury and our #1 WR to another ridiculous injury. Within 5 minutes of each other. I don't think last year's team would have kicked it into high gear after a disheartening loss of key players. It really was nice seeing the guys actually revitalized and fighting after those injuries. That type of response is indicative of good leadership and coaching and I'm really liking what I see. :)

To add: I'm also kind of a big fan of Hatcher.... lol. That dude is an animal!

Amen!

For once, aside from the injuries, this was a FUN game to watch. It felt like forever since we scored that many points on ANYBODY. Was happy to get a HOME win and for Jay to get his first, of hopefully many wins, under his belt.

Some other positives:
-Way was good on kickoffs. I don't know the nuances of how much strain that puts on a punter to do kickoffs for the whole season - but he was good doing it for one game!
-Keenan Robinson was solid again
-Perry Riley quietly had a big game
-Ryan Grant showed what he is capable of. I'm no way saying he will have the same career at this early stage, but, I'm just saying that his GAME reminds of Henry Ellard. Runs precise routes, polished and always catches with his hands. The ball never hits his chest ala Aldrick.
-Running game was good as usual.
-DY scored AGAIN. And am glad his injury is not as scary as it looked.

When was the last time the 'Skins did what they were supposed to do against any opponent? That alone is a huge deal and they did that yesterday, despite that I think we still played a pretty sloppy game and left a shit ton on the table... lots to learn, even though it was a five-score victory.

I've seen this sentiment expressed many times since the game, it's sad how low the bar of success has gotten for Skins fans.

That is a key right there.
Most everyone around here seems to want to downplay the win, being against a very bad team.

Wins and performances against NFL franchises should never be downplayed. You play sixteen regular season games, and each one is against NFL caliber talent. You don't get to the NFL by mistake. Yes, there are better teams than others, but the key thing about the NFL is it really is an any given Sunday league.

People who down play it are one of two things: 1) Looking for a reason to be negative because they don't like the direction of the team, 2) They are so used to believing that the 'Skins stink, that it's tough to actually believe they played well and instead naturally pin it on the fact that the other team stinks.

The Skins go the W and had ten sacks in the process.

We dominated a team like Jacksonville like we should have. In every aspect and on every level

I think this makes the leash on Reed very short. He's gotta wake up and step or he might be gone.

What do you mean he's got to 'wake up' - he's looked incredible when he's been in there. The only issue is his durability. And Niles Paul? He's had a gazillion chances to impress at TE and has done almost nothing. Props to him for yesterday, but until I see that kind of impact and effectiveness in multiple games, he's just a backup. Jordan Reed is the best TE we've had in 20 years. I just hope he can get back on the field soon and stay there.

Thanks for this thread stevenaa, definitely 100% correct - so great to have a game that was more or less something to cheer about for all 4 quarters!

What Paul did yesterday has nothing to do with what Reed has lacked in doing. Reed is always getting hurt and is out for several weeks at a time. I like the potential but the reality is he is always on the sidelines taking up roster and money. "wake up" means not doing stupid things like trying to jump over linebackers for 1 extra yard and pulling your hamstring.

He is replaceable whether it is Paul, Paulsen, or someone else we can draft later on down the road. He should recognize that he is on a very short leash now and start making better choices.

Reed? He get's a concussion and then gets hurt trying to make a play - and he's now 'replaceable'? Look - I'm happy for Paul, but how many games has he played where he had zero impact whatsoever? Lots. I don't get the harshness towards a very young promising TE. Let's look at TE production at the end of the year and we'll revisit this topic then.

***edited - and apologies to Mike for the unnecessarily harsh reply***

What shocks me is the amount of people discounting this win against the lowly Jags. Do they see our team being THAT superior to the Jags? Really? We haven't been.

Great game, way to pounce on an opportunity for a change. Way to take a crutch and the just put it in someone's ass for a change. I'm not giddy, but I am glad the way this team responded after losing SEVERAL players not just the one everyone likes to talk about.
