Burner's Burning Questions: Offseason Edition, Free Agency 2014

Santana Moss tells @JPughNBC4 the Skins would be 'stealing' if they signed DJax. Believes he's one of the most explovsive guys in the NFL

Twitter going to town with reports about Desean Jackson. I'll won't even post them here because they're all over the place even though the consensus is he'll sign with the Skins.

Instead, I'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate another former Philadelphia Eagle, acquired by the Skins 50 years ago today. Yes, it was via a trade instead of Free Agency but it worked out rather well. Happy 50th Anniversary as a Washington Redskin, Sonny Jurgensen!

Ryan Clark signed last night. I figure even an old and fading Ryan Clark is better than what we had last year so I guess this is good.

He can see now. The 49ers sent him to a doctor and he got glasses.

Now why didn't we think of that?

We did, he refused the procedure until he got to San Fran and then magically was "into it".

I think Clark has been mentioned quite a bit on various threads. Also his signing was first anticipated two weeks ago and a lot of folks put in their two cents then.

My take:

1. Clark is a one year bridge at 34 and we should not expect the same player that made the pro bowl 3 or 4 years ago. But he is an upgrade on what we have.

2. The Clark signing is further evidence the tandem of Thomas and Rambo is still a question mark to everyone inside and outside the Park. Lisfranc is hard to come back from in re Thomas and Rambo May or may not have the instincts to play S in the NFL.

3. The draft us not well stocked with safeties this year and our 2015 starters may not be on the team until this time next year.

J.H.C.

We sign another player known to throw up gang signs?

So Colt McCoy is replacing "The Sexy". I actually like this. Instead of drafting a #3 QB, we can have Colt compete with a UDFA for that spot in camp. Well done, Bruce!

The Redskins can't afford to spend a pick on a quarterback. Too many other depth areas of need.

Considering he was playing for the Browns 58% completions with 21 TDs and 20 INTs isn't that bad.

Why not ?
He's even questionable as a #2 guy, so the "market for him as #2" doesn't surprise me.
What would surprise me, is if he's even still in the league in a couple years.

You'd have to ask Grant, it was his twitter post.

Yeah, I don't think the Colt McCoy signing is bad at all. He is more mobile than Cousins and might make a good long term option to back up Griff, leaving us free to actually consider trading Cousins in the 2015 off season.

He's a former third round pick. If Jay wants to kick the tires and see if they can develop him, what's the harm?

At 32 we weren't going to bring back Rex for $1.2M.

Rex was only here to help the young QBs learn the system, which left with Kyle. Not a shock that he's gone.

At the same time, it's the lowly Browns, the team that didn't want him. Instead of attempting to build around him, they chose to get rid of him. He must have been bad. And his next stop after the Browns wasn't impressive at all, either.

He's a former third round pick. .

Again, it's the BROWN'S 3rd round pick.
How successful have they been at drafting QB's ?

Agreed its a long shot. McCoy does not have a strong arm and will never be elite, but perhaps Jay can develop him into a reliable backup that can spell a starter and manage the game.

Cousins won't be here long-term so developing another backup is forward thinking.

Something this organization didn't always do in the past.

Oh, to have the luxury of dissecting who our 3rd string QB is.... :p
