Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2016 (Continual Updates)
Greetings from BBQ World Headquarters.
Today we bring you the latest mock. The draft is just two days away. This latest prognostication features trades and other exciting information. We have another one coming tomorrow. We’ll post two mocks on Thursday (morning and afternoon).
The videos that we post for various prospects will contain rough language on occasion. We apologize and recommend that you turn down the volume if offended.
Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.
Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2016.
Round One: Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor
The Redskins need youth and dependability on the defensive line for 2016 and beyond. Enter Andrew Billings. The Redskins have a decent running game defense. Billings can make it much better. The Redskins have a poor pass rush. Billings can make it much better. The Big 12 star plays low to the ground and can gain exceptional leverage. A disruptive force who can take on double teams and allow the OLBs a direct path to the quarterback. Deceptive speed. Very, very strong.

Other Possible Targets:
Vernon Butler, DT/DE, Louisiana Tech
A’Shawn Robinson, DE/DT, Alabama
Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama
William Jackson, CB, Houston
Sheldon Rankins, DT/DE, Louisville
Laquon Treadwell, WR, Mississippi
Round Two: Trade
The Redskins trade down to the latter portion of round two and pick up third and seventh rounders.
Round Two: Jeremy Cash, SS, Duke
Free safeties are usually more valued by football teams than strike safeties. Here is one strike that you simply can’t ignore. From the program that produced Jamison Crowder, Duke has a real gem in Jeremy Cash. He started out at Ohio St., but transferred to the ACC program after his freshman season. He has steadily improved on his coverage skills and should only get better. A true playmaker. Can suddenly change the direction of a game with his ball hawking skills.

Other Possible Targets:
Chris Jones, DE, Mississippi St.
Keanu Neal, FS, Florida
Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio St.
Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh
Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama
Round Three: Jordan Howard, RB, Indiana
Indiana is known as a basketball mecca and the football team is something of an afterthought. The Hoosiers have seen some good fortunes on the gridiron last few years and Howard is a big reason for that buzz. Even with Tevin Coleman (now with the Atlanta Falcons), his backfield running mate last year, Howard was a running machine and still rushed for more than 1,500 yards. . He is overlooked because of being in a lower tier program within the Big Ten, but has the size and strength to excel at the next level.

Other Possible Targets:
Maliek Collins, DT, Nebraska
Sebastian Tretola, OG, Arkansas
Charles Tapper, DE, Oklahoma
Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado St.
Su'a Cravens, OLB/ILB, Southern California
Nick Martin, C, Notre Dame
Round Three: Trade
The Redskins trade down to the middle of round four and pick up fifth and sixth rounders.
Round Four: Keyarris Garrett, WR, Tulsa
This first team all AAC player is highly underrated. Garrett did not play for a P5 conference, but don’t let that fool you. He can be a stud and put up the numbers. The Golden Hurricane standout could step into a significant role early on and should be a starter by 2017. The super-sized receiver has quick feet and is able to gain separation quickly. Will need to adjust to a pro style offense. Has a laser like focus on the ball and makes many difficult catches. Has drawn comparisons to notable big wide receivers, mostly Randy Moss.

Other Possible Targets:
Sean Davis, FS, Maryland
C.J. Prosise, RB, Notre Dame
Kyle Murphy, OT, Stanford
Bronson Kaufusi, DE, BYU
Justin Simmons, FS, Boston College
Kyler Fackrell, OLB, Utah St.
Round Four: Hassan Ridgeway, DT, Texas
The All Big12 performer is like the classic blue collar worker who packs his lunch and comes to work with a positive attitude. There is nothing flashy about him other than dependability and reliability. He can occupy blockers at the line and apply pressure in the running and passing games. Ridgeway will likely add about ten to fifteen pounds of bulk to his sturdy frame. For his size, the Longhorn is deceptively quick on his feet. Pretty much an unmovable object on the field.

Round Five: Graham Glasgow, C/G, Michigan
Glasgow is an intriguing prospect who can play either left guard or center with superb effectiveness. He would likely be a fourth rounder (possibly higher?) if it wasn’t for a DUI conviction and a team suspension for similar behavior. In the past year, the Big Ten mauler has become a model citizen and had a great year on the gridiron. He more than held his own at the Senior Bowl as he handled elite defenders who will do well at the next level. Likely projects to center.

Other Possible Targets:
Max Tuerk, C, Southern California
Evan Boehm, C, Missouri
Tajae Sharpe, WR, Massachusetts
Jayron Kearse, FS, Clemson
Jonathan Williams, RB, Arkansas
Blake Martinez, ILB, Stanford
Matt Ioannidis, DE, Temple
Round Five: DeAndre Houston-Carson, FS, William & Mary
Latter round free safeties need to have plenty of speed. Carson has it. Latter round free safeties need to have a nose for the ball. Carson has it. Latter round free safeties need to have an elusive ability to deal with blockers. Carson has it. Latter round free safeties need to have great tackling skills, cornerback like skills, incredible focus, football smarts, and special teams skills. Carson possesses these qualities and more. Could the CAA defensive player of the year start sometime during his first season? It’s possible.

Round Six: Cody Kessler, QB, Southern California
The Redskins will certainly take a quarterback in this draft as a developmental project and the all PAC-12 signal caller obviously fits that profile. He sees the field very well and goes through his progressions quickly and efficiently. Able to improvise with ease. Leads the west coast offense with short and intermediate passes with an amazing degree of accuracy. Could stand to improve on his longer pass accuracy. Would fit extremely well in the Redskins offense.

Other Possible Targets:
Deiondre Hall, CB, Northern Iowa
Jared Norris, ILB, Utah
Tyvis Powell, FS, Ohio St.
D.J. Reader, DT, Clemson
Nick Kwiatkoski, ILB, West Virginia
Ken Crawley, CB, Colorado
Round Six: Maurice Canady, CB, Virginia
Do you need another punt returner who can score the occasional touchdown? He’s capable. The ACC specialist is a pretty good corner as well and is rated a bit higher by many scouting services. However, he regressed somewhat during a senior season that was hindered by poor team play. Deceptively quick. Canady has the size and strength that most teams covet, but will need a year or two on the bench. Could make his mark on special teams and then make the transition to nickel and dime back.

Round Seven: Joe Thuney, G, N.C. St.
Joe Thuney is a very versatile lineman and could serve as a backup at multiple positions on the offensive line. He has played both guard positions, the two tackle spots, and center. Yes, he is a Jack of all trades. Having such a lineman on the roster is a huge advantage in case of injuries to starters. The All-ACC first teamer is dedicated to his craft and is polished as a run blocker. Needs improvement as a pass protector. Long frame, but will need to add about twenty pounds of bulk and muscle.

Other Possible Targets:
Darrell Greene, OT/OG, San Diego St.
Clayton Fejedelem, FS, Illinois
Nate Sudfeld, QB, Indiana
Deon Bush, FS, Miami
De’Runnya Wilson, WR, Mississippi St.
Terrance Smith, ILB, Florida St.
Round Seven: Keenan Reynolds, RB, Navy
Mr. All Everything at Navy. One of the best football players ever to come out of the famed service academy. A truly electrifying presence on the field. Although he played quarterback, his pro career figures to be running back and special teams. Reynolds could obviously be the emergency QB on days when he is part of the roster. Holds numerous school records. The reigning AAC Player of The Year holds many conference records. Holds several NCAA records. An outstanding young man who exemplifies leadership. Could the Redskins pull enough strings to get him stationed in the DC region for his two year Naval commitment? Definitely.

Round Seven: Ian Seau, OLB, Nevada
He has a famous last name. Yes, the Mountain West product is a nephew of the late Junior Seau and like his famous uncle, Ian plays linebacker. He may not have the overall talent of his well known relative, but Ian Seau is a good football player. His specialty is rushing the passer. He would be an extra body on the field during passing downs and would need to make the roster as a special teamer as well. He lacks speed, but makes up for it with determination and toughness.
