Fair point. I don't pay close attention to these things, not being close enough to listen to him on the radio.

I'll be in NoVA tomorrow and will take special pains to avoid him.
 
Unfortunately, Darrel Young got caught up in the scheme changes brought on by the new staff.

There are teams like Baltimore, Green Bay, New York and others that run a two-back formation with a lead blocker. Young will find a job.

Fullbacks just don't get paid much relative to other positions in the NFL. They are down there with punters and backup quarterbacks on the team payscale.

The offseason is continuing to churn along now as teams are fully immersed with retooling their rosters by releasing players, restructuring contracts, offering new deals, placing franchise and transition tags, looking at free agency, and planning for the draft. BBQ takes the latest look at free agency and there are more scenarios to consider. The free agency period began yesterday and the Redskins were not “players” during the first round of outrageous contracts.

We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days and weeks. Who will the Redskins target, re-sign, release, and tender? Chris Long continues to tour the league, but the Redskins could be at the top of his list.

The Kam Chancellor rumors persist, but have no validity.

The front office is willing to wait for Junior Galette. He has very little chance of getting an offer elsewhere (Redskins have first right of refusal) and will likely settle for a two or three year deal with the Redskins. It could be settled soon or take several weeks.

We have listed new players in the target list as the first round of signings have taken place. We don’t know who will be a target as this is just a general list for now.

DE/OLB Andre Branch is coming for a visit.

Kyshoen Jarrett could miss the upcoming season due to the shoulder/arm injury he sustained late in the season.

Vernon Davis is visiting the Redskins today.

File this under the importance of free agency. Over the last five years, 188 players who went to the pro bowl or were all-pro left for another team in free agency the following season. Only fifteen of these players returned to the pro bowl or became all-pro with their new teams.

Also, BBQ wants to remind you that making big splashes on the first day of free agency (or most anytime) is not necessary. The following players tell you why: Jeff George, Adam Archuleta, Bruce Smith, Trung Canidate, Dana Stubblefield, Jeremiah Trotter, Albert Haynesworth.

The Giants can't keep their hands off ANY defensive free agents this offseason :laugh:
 
The Keenan Robinson thing is kind of a mystery ... the guy has all the physical tools, and at the beginning of last season was looking like a potential future Pro Bowler. We never heard a single thing about him being any kind of problem child on or off the field. And then he got hurt, again, and everything changed. When he got healthy, he could never work his way back into the lineup on a regular basis, and when he did play, we started to hear hints that he was zigging when he should have been zagging too often, and the coaching staff apparently lost faith in him.

It's not inconceivable that his is one of those stories where the "real" reason he's gone never gets made public. Something off the field that is simply not public knowledge but made it impossible for the team to keep him around. I hope that is not the case, because if he goes to NY and starts looking like the sideline-to-sideline beast he was looking like here at the beginning of 2015, there is going to be bitching in Redskins land.

Anyway ... here's one guy I thought was going to be a fixture on our D for years to come. Two minutes later ... poof ... he's gone. Life in the big city.

I was of the same impression, there was always praise about kid, 'the surprise on the roster', 'once he's on the field he'll be a monster', 'he's sooo athletic' type stuff.

Once he started playing kudos were a plenty, another injury, the backup takes over and all of a sudden even Riley looks totally different. Go figure.

I guess playing football requires more than superb physical tools.

Must be the scheme........ damn coaches :)
 
What I remember hearing during the season was that the coaching staff was disappointed that Robinson missed as many games as he did and could have/should have been back on the field sooner, which raised the issue of whether the team could count on him to be a consistent 16 game performer going forward.

Again, I think it's a case of that important ability called DURABILITY impacting a players career irrespective of his athleticism.
 
That was almost certainly part of it, BD.

I think I also remember some talk late in the season about how he was missing too many assignments though.

Perhaps those two things alone were enough, but it still seems like a precipitous fall for a guy who looked like he was about to break through and become a star in the first couple weeks of the season.

Not going to overthink it ... just noting for posterity that, at least to me, this one has the feel of there maybe being something else in the mix, something we don't and may never know. The math just doesn't quite seem to add up.

Can confirm Redskins have signed former Charger Kendall Reyes. 3-4 DE. 6-4, 300. 32 tackles, two sacks last year.

Some more info on Reyes:

Reyes was a second-round pick by the Chargers in 2012 and spent the last three seasons as a mainstay in their starting lineup. He flashed some pass rushing ability in his first two years, recording 10.5 sacks, but hasn’t been as productive the last two seasons.

Maybe a change of scenery can get him back to his early form.

Clear focus early on: DL and pass rushers. no surprise. Only one signing (reyes) but did talk to Ngata, had Long in and Branch visits today.

Reyes a depth, rotation guy. Helps that Joe Barry would know a lot about him having coached in San Diego.

We paid some considerable attention to the DL last year with Paea, Knighton and Francois being added in free agency.

Paea was MIA for most of the season and could still end up as a FA bust.

We need to do better this time around.
