Hey BB, couple questions for you. Hypothetical, for sure, but possible.

Using Mo Money Williams as the example...
1. We trade him (Please) during the draft. Receiving pick, or picks, in return.
2. We then draft players with said pick(s).
3. Sometime after the draft, Mo Money fails his physical, nullifying the trade.

Questions:
1. How in the world does the NFL handle that?
2. Wouldn't it make sense for any picks we receive be designated for next years draft. Or beyond?

And okay, a 3rd question; Wouldn't we have a better chance of getting a 2nd, or maybe even a 1st, if it was next years draft?

Again, don't expect too much in a Big Trent trade.

If it happens during the draft or before and the picks are made, the team acquiring TW inherits the risk.

If I could throw an answer up here.

1. This stipulation is worked out as part of the verbage in the actual trade. The terms would be laid out. Almost EVERY trade has it written into it what happens if a physical is failed. Players get traded during the draft at times, and I would venture to guess each of them has return compensation designated in the event that the physical is failed, that isn't necessarily the exact asset of what they sent over. IF TB were to trade us a 3rd round pick this year for Trent, and he fails the physical, it's likely that it would be agreed upon that we ship them our 3rd next year, and all done so ahead of time as a term of the trade.
2. It absolutely make sense, but it's not likely. If someone was going to be interested in trading FOR Trent using next years draft picks as compensation, it's highly unlikely it happens during the draft, they would just agree to terms and it likely doesn't actually happen until the days after the draft. If it's going to happen DURING the draft, chances are the picks we would be receiving (if that's what they give us) would be for 2020.

That all makes sense. I wonder how teams feel about getting cheated out of drafting a player, that we were able to draft, only because of the acquired pick, in a null and voided trade.

I've never expected more than the 4th you suggested. My concern is the fairness of us removing a player from the draft that other teams would have had an option to draft, if we hadn't taken them with a pick acquired in a trade that was later declared null and void.

ST is right. Any team making such a trade will probably have that language written in. However, if they don't, then the risk is all theirs.

Gronk announces he wants to play for TB. In less than an hour, NE trades him to TB. Done deal.

Redskins are interested in (fill in the blank). *Spend a year talking about it* *Fails to make a trade and another team makes the move*

You know, Cameron Brate, O.J. Howard, or David Njoku are all there for a low round pick. Bah!

If I’m the Redskins, I am on the phone asking TB what it would take to get either Howard or Brate. Both represent a significant upgrade at TE. I wouldn’t give up more than a 5th, but there is no way all 3 of them can contribute in Tampa. I know it’s been floated on here before, but Williams for one of the TEs and a pick could work. I know trades are easier said on a message board than they are done in reality. But something along these lines needs to be explored.

I think Howard or Brate can be had for a 2020 7th or no higher than a 2021 6th.

Hence the reason moving Trent has been such a process. He is a risk. He's got a high ceiling of talent, but he's a risk because of the unknown. It's the same thing that could cause Tua to fall. This is a really deep draft at some key positions, WR being the top of that list. A 3rd round pick could net you a 1st round talent at WR.... I think the chips have to fall just right in order for a trade to happen for Trent during the draft. TB is the team I keep going back to because they likely don't look at WR as a position they feel urgency to address. Adding Gronk further adds that. I think they actually zig when most people zag and they move Cameron Brate. He's costing them basically double what Howard is, and I feel like Gronk and Brate have similar play styles.... Howard would be a better accent to Gronkowski. Trading Brate would save them a bit, so as their 3rd round pick approaches, they could pull the trigger on Trent unless some MASSIVE surprise fall of someone they are in love with happens.

TB picks 14th, and I just saw a mock where they took Kinlaw there. If their favorite Tackle isn't there at 14 and the in fact go Defense, they could call us right then and there and start talking about a trade for Trent to protect Brady's blind side. Signing Gronk proves they're going ALL IN for the next 2 seasons.... Adding Trent could be a part of that gameplan.

BB - I usually agree with you, but why on Earth would TB give away Howard for a pittance? He’s young and although the production isn’t there, I think they’ll keep him knowing teams won’t be able to contain both he and Gronkowski. They certainly aren’t giving him away.

It’s true teams can’t conduct pre-trade physicals with their own MDs as they would like but they certainly would be given access to medical records if a trade is being discussed. I think the obvious barrier to a TW trade is the contract And the compensation. His behavior the past year hasn’t made him more appealing either.

I think once teams realize we are prepared to hold onto Williams if necessary and aren’t going to give him away or release him, someone will pony up a 3rd round pick. I think it’s more likely to happen after the draft.

When you look at Howard's stats, it does not equate to fourth round status or higher. I'll just leave it at that.

I really have nothing against Brady--he's been the NFL standard bearer for excellence (read: success) for a generation. Don't even really care about Fortune shining on his ass his whole career (tuck rule, Malcolm Butler, soft balls)--bottom line he's at or near the top of any objective GOAT list.

But I will admit a dark part of my soul would kind of enjoy watching this Excellent Buccaneer Adventure of his hit the shoals hard, break up and leave no survivors.

So I am mixed here, and Arians is the determining factor. Dude just rubs me the wrong way. If they did make a SB run, and possibly win it, then Arians is rated up with Belichek...and I am not sure I could stomach it.

I kinda agree with Ax, I'd like to see Belicheat come crashing, but I'd also like to put to rest the idea that Tom Terrific is the GOAT. Sorry, but Joe Montana could have lasted at least 6 more years in today's NFL. Placed in Brady's position in NE, I have no doubt they could have won 8 w/ Montana as QB.

I'd kinda like to see Brady follow the Unitas path in San Diego.
