The more I think about this, the more I see the logic in the move for Keenum. He and McCoy are your 2019 stop gap in what is likely a lost season, then you can clear the deck and do what you need to do to grab your franchise QB in one of the upcoming drafts. In the meantime, use a mid round pick to draft a QB with some upside this year and strengthen your roster at other positions of need. This gives your future QB an opportunity to hopefully walk into a situation down the road where there is already a lot of talent surrounding him, which can put him in a good position to succeed right off the bat.
Of course, this all involves hitting home runs in the draft, something we've struggled mightily with.
