Breaking - Washington @ Pittsburgh game moved

we can set up all the precautions that you desire, but if the players/staff aren't adhering to them then that is their problem. That is exactly what happened with the Ravens, and now they are being ravaged by the flu.

The flu. ;)

Except that it's not just "their problem." It's also the problem of all the other groups of people who were/are/have been around them because their livelihoods depend on it.

You mean like when someone comes in to the office when they have the flu? Everyone is now at risk from it, and those with other medical conditions can be at greater risk?

Probably smart to stay home until you aren't contagious any longer and follow guidelines.

Just like that. And when that flu has every ICU bed within 100 miles full, with an accelerating number of flu patients arriving every hour, and medical personnel is already stretched beyond the breaking point, and your office is an entertainment industry only essential to those who make their living being associated with it, as an owner perhaps you face the sticky wicket of deciding exactly when it makes sense to temporarily close the office.

That is happening in the NFL right now?!!!!

Holy cow!!

The Ravens were missing 21 players, including 12 starters, against the Steelers because of the virus. Thats not close to a team losing a QB to pulled hammy or something. When clubs are struggling just to get a team on the field, its time for a pause.

They were missing those players because someone was irresponsible and did not follow protocols. They were not 'inevitable' cases that could not have been avoided. Denver's QB room only had 1 positive test... the other players put on the list were done so out of precaution because they did not adhere to the rules that were put in place.

These 'outbreaks' are not because the Virus can't be avoided, or because of transmission on the field. If EVERYONE followed the rules there were put in place and agreed upon by the league AND the players, then these would not have happened. The cases would have been minimal. Teams would not be 'struggling just to get a team on the field'

See I don't agree with this....

There was a graphic i saw the other day about Trent Williams. I'm sure you're aware of how the tax situation works regarding the NFL and players salaries. That the player's taxes come out of their game check based on the location they are playing in. So Trent Williams plays for the 49ers, on gameday when they play in San Francisco, the income taxes are calculated for that municipality. When they play in Dallas, the taxes come out and are payed to Arlington TX, or whatever the income tax jurisdiction is....

So San Francisco is not playing in Santa Clara for the next 2 home games. The loss of income taxed going into that community JUST FROM TRENT WILLIAMS is OVER $200K between those two games. That's schools, roads, fire departments, police departments, EVERYTHING that taxes go towards getting lost with this shut down. This is not just about 53 NFL players getting bloated salaries. If they would have cancelled the game between Baltimore and Pittsburgh, the income taxes from those two teams salaries no longer go to the community. Baltimore had 20+ people on the covid list? Well between those two teams there are 106 game checks that would be lost.....

That's fair, ST. Doesn't change my point though, I don't think ... I just didn't expand my scope out far enough.

How about if I'd said "... and your office is an entertainment industry only essential to those who make their living being associated with it, and, perhaps among other entities affected, communities losing tax revenue due to how the NFL pays taxes on player salaries."

And I think I should stress it again. I'm not advocating to shut down the league. I'm saying it's a sticky fucking wicket and I'm glad I don't have to deal with the blowback of making the call. My life is complicated enough.

You and me both here lol.

I guess my point is what I said before... this situation is a part of our lives now... we understand how to protect ourselves from doing it. The majority of the people spreading this are ignoring those steps. The 4 major sports have now gone through the majority of a season with minimal issue. NHL and NBA were a little different because they had already started their seasons, but they completed playoffs. There were situations like the Miami Marlins where players were seen out at night clubs and not respecting the rules. The major 'outbreak' in Baltimore was DIRECTLY caused by a single guy not following the protocols in place. Denver the same. Tennessee early on the same.

Washington has had 2 players be put on the Covid list TOTAL. Both followed the protocols, both got through it and recovered, the best we can tell.

As for the WFT and the Steelers...I would not be a bit surprised if the WFT comes out and upsets the Steelers.
I love patting myself on the back...so humble!
