Bold Predictions!

Pessimism is a choice, 100% of the time. But, it's everybody's right to do so.

What I was saying is that last year, I was optimistic... This year, I'm not so optimistic and I've provided reasons why. You make it sound like pessimism is always bad and optimism is always good. I would counter that irrational is bad and rational is good. Saying someone who has a history (albeit brief) of incompetence will somehow become competent is irrational... Saying someone who has demonstrated an inability to protect the football will suddenly become a "game manager" is irrational... Could we be successful against teams we haven't been successful against in the last decade? Yes, but it would be irrational for me to ignore recent history and believe we're going to the playoffs (like I did last season)... Could all that happen the way you say? Yes, quite obviously anything could happen. I thought I was making "bold" predictions, but I see they aren't nearly as "bold" as us winning and Daniel Snyder becoming an official member of this community... I hope you are right about everything.

To be fair, we don't exist in a vacuum. There are facts, evidence, and life experience to draw from when predicting. Ignoring those things generally leads to lousy predictive accuracy :). Yes - anything can happen, but that's not exactly a strategy destined to get anyone rich in Vegas.

Reasons that work for you. That, to you, make you feel the way you do. You see everything, as definitively half empty. As if it's already written in stone. Your choice.
You make it sound like pessimism is always bad and optimism is always good.
More times than not, that is true. Pessimism is the result of negative thinking. Optimism is the result of positive thinking. Most people usually fall to one side, or the other, in everything they do. Most don't even realize it. There are tests for it. But regardless of where you fall, humans have the ability to change the way they think about things. That's a fact.

I would counter that irrational is bad and rational is good.
Well sure it is. The problem is, with concern to pro sports, rationality, or irrationality, is in the eye of the beholder more often than not.
It would have been irrational to believe the Redskins were going to score 35 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter of SB 22. Would it not?
How'd that turn out?

Saying someone who has a history (albeit brief) of incompetence will somehow become competent is irrational...
I would counter, not only is that completely untrue. But that believing so, in and of itself, is quite irrational.

Saying someone who has demonstrated an inability to protect the football will suddenly become a "game manager" is irrational...
There was this QB, Mark Rypien, I think was his name. played for, Mmm, let me see.......The Washington Redskins. Who had a horrible time with int's, and fumbles. Who went on to be a Super Bowl Champion.
Irrational, indeed.

Could we be successful against teams we haven't been successful against in the last decade? Yes, but it would be irrational for me to ignore recent history and believe we're going to the playoffs (like I did last season)... Could all that happen the way you say? Yes, quite obviously anything could happen.
The bolded part is very rational thinking.

We will have one shocking win-specifically, we will beat the Patriots in Foxboro.

Arie Kuandjio will take over Scherff's position as starting RG.

Rashad Ross will collect three receiving TDs in one game.

We will have one shocking loss-specifically, to the Jets.

Matt Jones will have more yardage on the ground than Morris.

Colt McCoy will start against Dallas in one of the two meetings and get the win.

Bold enough?

daaaaaaaaaaaaaang....Scherff is gonna get benched? That IS bold!!

Hopefully, he isn't predicting Trent Williams gets injured, Morgan Moses moves to LT, Scherrf moves to RT & Arie takes over at RG...

No injuries to Trent , please.:paranoid:

If Scherff survives facing that Miami defensive line I may tone the "boldness" down but that's going to be a severe first-time-out test for our entire OL.

Matt Jones surpasses Alfred, who hits FA at the end of the season.

The decision to pick up the option on RG3 causes all types of problems, and majorly bites us in the ass.

Jamison Crowder really emerges into something special.

McLovin has at least one more serious personal issue before the season is over.

Tough to argue with any of these. Jones has some durability concerns so we will have to see, but he has looked very impressive.
Crowder, I also believe is a special player. Someone who has vision, anticipation, and crazy sick quickness.

I hope you are wrong on the other 2, but I would not bet against it.

Not to derail the thread, but anyone have any suggestions for potential screen names for Snyder if he did join?

I thought he already had one: Lord Farquaad.

Bold predictions?

Jones takes over as primary RB by midpoint of the season.

Reed plays 16 full games and is named to the pro bowl.

Scherff plays like he's injected himself with rabies, garnering a pro bowl nod.

Deangelo ends his season with 15 pass breakups & 5 picks...1 taken to the house.

Potroast becomes our first "true" NT & McLuvs locks him up for 4 more years.

Larry Michaels interviews Gruden while he's taking a shit on John Harbaugh's car hood.

By seasons end we're sniffing paloffs & TR1 is driving the bandwagon.

We will have a few games of good clock management, and proper use of timeouts! Ok, even I don't believe this is possible.

We shed the "dysfunctional organization" label and become a competitive team.

We end the season in the top five in Red Zone effectiveness, courtesy of a commitment to the run and the tutelage of Bill Callahan.

We begin establishing a presence in the division by sweeping the Giants, splitting with the Cowboys and Eagles and ending up with a 4-2 division record. However, we still fall short of the playoffs.

Tress Way earns a Pro Bowl birth.

Our special teams coverage units do not surrender a kick or punt for a TD all season long.

we're absolutely killed by the Iggles twice....but make up for the embarrassment by beating the cowgirls home and away.

the secondary finally stops surrendering big early leads by mid-season.

we manage a tie during the bye week.

we're all surprised by an effective receiving game from the TEs and adequate blocking.

tres way keeps us in a whole lotta games.

cousins keeps the TD to pick ratio about even.

I predict:

With the new additions on the defensive line and our other area of depth/strength at linebacker, we will be facing more 2nd and or 3rd and mediums to longs... Thus creating more stops and punt situations which will carry over to us winning the field position battle.(something that I can't remember us being good at for some time now)

Winning the field position battle will loosen the play calling a bit, give confidence to the offensive players as well as coordinators, which will lead to more first downs, yards, points, and wins.

They will finally figure out how to swing momentum.

They will score after getting a turnover.

They will throw at a newly substituted DB.

They will run at a newly substituted DL.

They will learn to hurry to the line of scrimmage and get a quick snap to run a "go for the jugular" play after a long gain.

They will throw to the sidelines when time is of the essence.

They will look like they have finally rehearsed the two minute drill.

They will resemble a team that has actually prepared and game planned for their opponents.

Jordan Reed will stay healthy most of the season and have a break out year.

They will make a trade for Kam Chancellor.
