The Pigs break down the season opener, deep breathe, and take a big heaping spoonful of calm the *&%! down while making the same old optimistic predictions about the Giants coming to town. And the latest from Om from Anspach Germany.

That said ... I'll take the C's this week. Because we can't possibly lose to Danny again.

Right?

A game prediction from this particular mouth-breathing fan:

Mostly a defensive battle. Tampa Bay 20, Washington 19 (with a failed xp attempt).

Daniels plays well and Washington scores 2 TDs; 1 RZ pass to Zach Ertz, 1 rushing for Jayden Daniels. Tampa scores 2 TDs through the air; 1 long to Jaylen McMillian vs Forbes, 1 RZ to Mike Evans vs Forbes.

This is a tough one for me and I wish that it wasn’t.

Even though it seems popular to look down on the NYG and to consider them to be inferior in talent to Washington, I don’t really agree.

Defensively they are better on the defensive line and in the secondary (like every other NFL team) and Okereke is a hell of a linebacker and plays TEs very well. Banks (who Washington could have drafted) is better than any corner on our roster and plays with an attitude vs Washington.

Offensively, take McClaurin and Nabors off the board and the receivers are a wash. Washington has the edge at RB and both teams still have questions along the o-line. If Daniel Jones didn’t have a Hoosiers game every time he played this team I would give Daniels the edge but…hey.

Without improvement this season I fully expect Daboll and Schoen to be on the unemployment line next year, if not sooner. That is pressure that neither Quinn nor Peters have to deal with.

This game will be decided by a late fg but I don’t know by whom. My heart says Washington wins but my head says “not so fast my friend”.

NYG 27 WAS 24

I expect the defense to play better, I believe they were dehydrated and gassed to hell in the 2nd half of last weeks game and will play better in reasonable temps along with the Giants being not very good. Albeit the Giants seem to play better than usual against us and look like a competent team. We'll need to limit stupid mistakes and miscues and keep this a time of possession game. This offense hasn't had time to gel in real time, live action, I'm not expecting to get a glimpse of what they can do until week 4. I'd get Terry involved on some short crossing routes early and hopefully the O-line can actually get the run game going early. The pod came in handy as I was listening to it while watching the Jets get brutalized on defense, as always well done gents.

On a side note: I'm thinking J. Allen might be trade bait this year

Was 20 - NY 13

No pass rush and no cover corners is going to haunt Washington all year unless people emerge that either are now on the bench or practice squad or regulars that wake up one morning and a fantasy light bulb comes on.

Daniels didn't throw any interceptions against the Bucs. For the most part Tampa scored on every drive for how many quarters (?), with Mayfield and Co. simply driving the field where Washington as usual per Ron's days helped out with key third down penalties and blown coverages.

So, unlike the Titans where their quarterback literally GAVE the game away to their opponent, the Bears, Tampa outplayed Washington by a large margin.

And I don't like the weather excuses. There were 300 pound players on both sides that had to hold up for 60 minutes in the heat and humidity.

Going to Tampa and Arizona (before dome) always seem like big mountains to climb for mediocre teams.

Gibbs, Belichick, Walsh didn't seem to have much trouble getting wins in Tampa over the years in the heat of September or October or Arizona for that matter.

I’m not nearly as concerned about the pass rush as I am the corners. The rush wasn’t bad, the finishing was. I reserve the right to change my mind though if they don’t get to and finish on Jones.

Bulldog comparing the Bucs of the 80's with todays Bucs is a very very big stretch. Weather plays a factor, you don't have to like it, why did the Pats always want homefield advantage in case they had to face Manning's Colts in the playoffs? Oh yeah the weather. Why does Miami struggle in Buffalo in the winter? The weather. While it's not the most indicative and discerning factor in a loss or win to dismiss it entirely seems a tad bit disingenuous.

I just have trouble seeing where a 335 pound Vita Vea is less challenged to play in those weather conditions then our 300 plus pounders.

What is more likely is after allowing 60-70 yard drives throughout the early portions of the game, the defense finally collapsed in the fourth quarter with fatigue.

Now, THAT I buy.

The best teams though like the current Chiefs win anywhere. Cold, Heat, Wind, Rain, Opposing Crowd Noise.

In the cold scenario I think the case you cited is that Miami has proven to be a talented team but not one that is especially tough mentally. In key matchups with the chips down these guys blink.

OM is right in that the feel of this defense is troubling because it does look like Ron's unit. Guys are not holding each other accountable.

Mayfield and Co. never saw this edition of the Commanders and yet they seemed to have Washington figured out from the first set of downs.

Looking forward to the Giants I am likewise concerned that Jones always seems to get the time to make plays against us. And the rush from this week was not strong enough to assume we are going to get enough pressure to force him into mistakes.

The other thing that concerns me is if the team starts Forbes again next week and he ends up on the outside against Malik Neighbors.

He's clearly being circled by opponents as a weak spot and until we get him off the field he is going to be exploited.

I think like OM that the team will be better at the end of the season.

But my guess is part of that is finding 2 or 3 other players from old regime we need to jettison.

My candidates:

Forbes - enough said. PFF rating of 46 for the game. That's about as low as you can go for a guy the team is listing as a starter.

Percy Butler - replacement level player that somehow has survived the cuts two years in a row

Jonathan Allen - Allen was a pro bowler or alternate in 2018, 2019 and 2020. He's far from that player now. The explosion is no longer there. If we can get a pick for him, I think we need to move on.

Listened on the way to work and enjoyed the banter.
Can't agree with the extremely positive view that the Redskins will win the game.

They are on the same level as the Giants
Daniel Jones gets contract extensions off his performances vs the Skins
The Defense gave fans nothing to be hopeful about.
The Rookie QB struggles in the passing game.
Our OC hasn't shown yet that he knows how to feature talent ( Terry ).
Our kicking game...wait, what kicking game? Max Zendejas available? John Hall?

Other than that, they are awesome......

I think we all acknowledged that we could easily lose this game and that the Giants have had our number repeatedly in recent years.

I remember the Cowboys under Jimmy stripped down a part of the roster in offseason and went 1-15. He used that first season to weed out the remaining guys that failed their second chances or couldn’t translate their camp successes onto the field in the NFL.

I see a couple of guys already on this team that are not long for the league. Just hope we don’t go a full 17 games and carry them before finally giving them the hook in January.

There wasn’t that much talent here after 4 years of Ron.

In Dallas Jimmy after Year 1 was left with 3 vet guys he ended up keeping from the last Landry years - Michael Irvin, Nate Newton and Jim Jeffcoat.

Rod Hill and a number of high picks were waived, some DURING the season.

They couldn’t play at this level so why carry them?

As bad as Forbes has been, what is just as concerning is the fact that Michael Davis I believe played zero snaps on Sunday. We are in a whole heap of trouble on the back end of that defense, so I wouldn't be surprised if guys on New York find ways to have career days on Sunday, because that is traditionally what we do.

Defensively, I worry about New York's guys up front. Between Lawrence, Thibodeaux, and Burns, there is enough there to cause some trouble for Daniels. At the very least, I think there will be a very concerted effort by NY to not allow him to burn them with his legs and get outside. Let's face it, outside of Daniels creating with his feet on Sunday, there was no pop, rhythm, or clear plan offensively vs. the Bucs. If they take away that element offensively, can we make up for it in other ways? The short answer - Sunday certainly didn't instill much confidence that we can.

Dating back to last season, we are on a nine game losing streak and have lost six straight in the NFC East. Given the weaknesses and holes on the team, and the newness of it all, I don't see how we defeat NY.

Sunday is better visually, but not enough to claim victory.

NYG 23
WSH - 20

Michael Davis it appears is in the dog house for some reason and a guy that was effective as recently as 2022 as a starter is being sat down while Forbes and others are getting continued chances their talent hasn’t shown they deserve.

The Giants are going to win this game in part because their front four will exploit our hit or miss cast on the OL and chase Daniels while on defense the unit coaches have been working with for months can’t do the basics - wrap up and tackle, execute assignments without fail and adapt to what the opponent is doing on the field.

Giants 24
Washington 17

And yes Seibert misses one or two field goals that alter strategies in the fourth quarter.
