Om, it is impossible to argue. It's tough from a fan perspective because, as you spelled out, we have not had the kind of talent at QB Howell has in a long time. He and Cousins, while different styles of QB, have a lot in common and it's very difficult to know what the ceiling for those kinds of QBs is going to end up being. But it's hard not to be very excited by the arm talent, the mobility, the moxie, and the maturity of Howell and I would hate to give up on that so quickly.

That being said, let's say we had that crystal ball and could see that Howell is going to be a very good top 10 QB over his career, but never a top 5 QB who can take the team on his back. And then consider we could have a top 3 pick where one of those guys is sitting there for the taking.

The problem is, the line between wishes and lies is so nebulous. One lie could be 'Howell is struggling some in his first full season and will never become a top QB'. Another could be '*insert college QB's name here* is absolutely a better QB than Sam Howell'. Other lies could be 'Howell is going to be a franchise QB in the right system with the right talent around him' or 'Not drafting *insert college QBs name here* is going to prove to be the biggest mistake in franchise history'.

There is just no way to know. That's true for we fans. And here's the unsettling truth - it's only a little easier to know for future GMs.

I guess all we can do is hope, whatever route our nameless, faceless new leadership goes, that they make the correct decisions.

That's the bitch with change. When you get it, it might not come in the form you wanted or envisioned.

As I believe we might have mentioned in the pod ... one silver lining to all this is that Sam Howell is under contract--rookie contract--for another two years. Even if the new regime pulls the trigger and brings in another guy, unless for some reason we trade Sam away (!), he'll be here and part of the rebuild. If all he really needs is another season to cook, and better support around him on and off the field, he'll have the chance to show it.

I agree. Kansas City is one of the most quarterback centric teams to have won, even in this era of parity. A look up and down their roster doesn't give you a long list of pro bowlers or all-pros. Mahomes is not only the drink but what stirs it.

I would say he and Kelce combined are the drink and what stirs it.

I'd love to see stats for that offense with and without Kelce. Sometimes, I feel like Mahomes might appear to be merely mortal without Kelce.

I think he is. I feel bad that EB as hamstrung by a line that can't pass or run block. When we have to run and the defense knows we're going to run the best we ever get is a two yard gain. Most of the time, it's a stop.

I don't even know what this means. Books have been written about backup QBs playing better than starting QBs?? Whatever.

Brissett is obviously a better QB. Howell is so bad that he wouldn't even be a backup QB on most teams.

The only reason Howell is still starting is that the imbecile Rivera doesn't want to admit that he made a massive mistake starting Howell this season....just like the imbecile Rivera kept starting Wentz last season because he didn't want to admit that he made a massive mistake with Wentz as well.
