All things Bourbon

Looks like Sunday the reviews should come Rollin in! I'm trying Jeffersons 25, and Four Roses 125th Single Barrel, Lanky has a new one to review too. Not sure he'll get to it by Sunday.

I think I will. :) For the rest of you following this thread, I stumbled across Angel's Envy Cask Strength, limited release. Bob convinced me to buy it (even though he was encouraging me to buy a different bourbon), and I did. I will hopefully get to it this weekend, but we shall see.

Also, I'm taking my first sips of the Red Breast 12-year Cask Strength tonight...oh my. Definitely not bourbon, but man is it tasty!! Its a nice change, excellent for a night cap!!

I can taste the "green tea" flavor you were referring to...its almost like the lightest possible amount of peat, but still good. Its a sweet whiskey, almost no burn for what the proof is. Its got some desserty-notes to it...its almost like a port-whiskey, lol. Gives me a whole new appreciation for Irish whiskey!

Dare I say, this Red Breast might have vaulted into 2nd place behind the Jr.?? For $70, it's well worth the price of admission. :)

Damn my bourbon tasting tomorrow is off. Came home tonight and started sneezing like I was sniffing black pepper. Don't wanna go and get anyone else sick, so looks like I'll be home with a freakin cold. That's sucks the big one!

I also found 6 more bottles of Stagg Jr., but they were charging $99.99 per bottle.

I am not a bourbon drinker but I respect the commitment and enthusiasm that you guys exhibit.

Bob...Bob....BOB - you gotta get your hands on some of this Angel's Envy Cask Strength. Amazing stuff. Its definitely different than the Stagg - a lot less vanilla, and a lot less burn. This stuff is 123 proof, but isn't harsh at all. Its got a great nose...smells like dessert spices and almost like pie! Then the taste is just very refined; not bursting with flavor like the Stagg, but not flavorless like cheaper bourbons. Its pretty much perfection - I can see why this was named "spirit of the year" - its incredible. I'd say this bottle is worth $200 if that's what you're seeing it for. I paid $150, and feel like it was very justified. Glad I went with this one over the Jeff25!!

They are not very hard to store at all compared to wine. They won't turn due to the alcohol content. If they have not been opened I just sit upright at room temp. If they have been opened and it takes you a loooooong time to drink a bottle I might store it on the cork to avoid evaporation. Mine never seem to last long enough to worry about this.

Going back through the thread, and saw this. It's been a year, and my WLW & ER17 are both about half way full. I've been storing them upright, should I be worried about evaporation? Do I need to do cork checks?

What about crystal?

Scratch the store on the cork, that's only for wine. If you store high proof spirits on the cork it can cause the cork to degrade and mix with the spirit. The best way to store is upright and corked, out of the sun. I've heard oxidation is the only thing that can really hurt liquor. It's takes a long time though and a happens in bottles less than half full. If you are really worried and its an expensive bottle the wine world has caps they use, just get a couple of those for open bottles.

Just picked up two more bottles of Jr.
