a 3rd next year and a 5th this year? are you joking?

Some still think he was worth a 1st round pick.

Market dictates value, it's plain and simple. With the glut of tackles slated to go early, we were a victim of circumstance more than anything.

Why sign a once great, but still probably very good LT with a lot of baggage, when you can have a 1st round rookie LT?

I Was all for keeping him around until the start of the season if necessary to wait it out and see who would end up desperate enough due to injury, or one of those rookies couldn't handle it.

But hearing TW sabotaged the trade offer the Vikings made after hearing what Tunsil was paid, I was pretty much done with him.

Now that he's gone? Yeah, f**k him!

On april 25th 2020 we werent gonna get a 1st. There was a report by dan Patrick that we could and i admitted of that came to fruition i would eat crow.. but it wasnt gonna happen.

This narrative of hating on smith and rivera for our return is unfair. Allen screwed this up and they did the best they could with a situation that was not fixable.

I didn't even think about what you had said when I mentioned that. I was referring to the blind homers I saw all over twitter thinking Trent is the hot commodity that everyone should jump at the chance to acquire. When the reality was, and a few of us mentioned months ago...he would never get us a 2nd round, and a 3rd round this year was iffy because of the saturated market. The fact that we got a 3rd round pick next year makes me happy enough.

Market always dictates value.

Gimme a break. None of us know what was offered. None of us know what will happen to other etams injury wise. And suuuuure.....our new 4th roiund doper is gonna be infinitely better than our All-Pro 31 yuear old doper. The Skins fgot fleeced. As usual...they wer outplayed - whetehr it be other teams or - by yoiur accounts - a washed up LT. Just saying. It's an example of why this team won't get back to a SB for even more years to come. The other teams are run by smarter people.

But on to quarantine training!

in order to sell... someone else has to be willing to buy. We got fleeced? we got essentially the equivalent of a late 2nd round pick. That's more than I thought we would get. Trent wanted out and we had no real leverage other than to make him play for a team that is not Trent Williams away from contending. His value to us is nothing more than a rental LT who might give us 12 games. Trent WOULD be the best O lineman we have, but beyond February of 2021, he is gone. That itself drops value to us. He also BLOCKED a trade. He has more leverage in this than you think. So get off your pedestal and give me a break. Stop holding Rivera and Smith hostage because of previous front office decisions. Either move on, or move on.

This deal is based on Trent passing a physical right? 49ers may flunk him due to his tumor or whatever he actually has going on. Basically the deal’s not official until it is

For someone who understands market value as you do, I have a hard time understanding why you think Trent Williams was worth more than we traded him for.

Last year, he was worth more...a lot has happened since then that have affected his worth, the number one factor being the saturated LT market this off-season.

What's so hard to understand about that?

I never said he was washed up, and Boone and I were 2 who were more inclined to make him sweat it out...play the season out.

Smokey ”plays” this year, fakes an injury and jets as a FA, the best the team gets is a 5th. I sincerely doubt they’re franchising him if he fails to sign.

There was a HUGE run on LT’s in the draft. Younger, hungrier, cheaper.

We're not 15 minutes into the Rivera/Smith era and folks are already howling and crying.

We're all doomed!

Sack up people. The NFL isn't for the faint of heart.

Not exactly. But you know, this idea about sack...it isn't a bad one. Sack up guys! I believe the Skins didn't play it very well.

Markets change. And we could have used him as you yourself noted in a previous post. I'ld be ok if we didn't comically place all the marbles on another doper.....who was passed over by team after team. Anywho....good luck Dwayne! As I recall, you were almost damaged badly in the five games you played with this questionable o-line. In my mind, it was worth keeping TW until better was drafted or signed in FA - to better protect the QB investment.

You're correct, I did fight tooth and nail until I couldn't anymore. He's gone, we move on. We will not do better at LT than him this season, but let's get someone who can come in and give us the best chance from what is available.

And if you think Rivera is going to go into the season with a 4th round rookie as the starting LT on our young QB's blindside, I think you're mistaken.

Don't be surprised if Donald Penn, or Wes Peters is signed within the next few days. Who knows? Maybe Charles steps up and replaces Moses while we rent Penn for one more season.

Things aren't working out exactly how I wanted, but I proclaimed I would not watch another game until ngruden and Allen were gone. It was the only way I could see Snyder may understand the reality before him. Well, just because it isn't going exactly as I'd like, doesn't mean I'm going to give up on what I was yearning for when I made that proclamation.

We have a huge hole to dig out of, is Rivera the man? He looks more capable today than I thought when we hired him.

Rivera apparently has already stated that Charles will start at LT. Seems out of character for him but that's the report. Let me rephrase - Chris Russell is 'reporting' that Rivera said this. Let's take that with a grain of salt as he is a loose cannon who frequently has a loose association with the facts.

Well, that would be a problem for me. Especially with Geron Christian as the backup with another unknown I can't even remember his name.

Read my edit above re Chris Russell reporting this. It didn't sound right to me. I'm trying to find out where he supposedly got this from.

Yeah, I don't trust Chris Russell, if I recall correctly...he was the one pushing the 1st rounder for Trent nonsense from dan Patrick.

Sounds like Russell intended to say Charles will 'start out' but instead said 'HC Ron Rivera said that Saahdiq Charles will start at left tackle'. That makes more sense although I suppose it could still end up that way.

I choose not to be unkind. Don't get used to it though.

Yeah I was hoping for a 2nd rounder, but I knew it wouldn't happen so I'm fine with what they got. I'm just glad that saga is over, and I think the kid for LSU is going to be good.

The thing people have to remember, the person responsible for screwing up the Williams deal is gone. Allen royally screwed up by not trading him and left this new staff a mess. You can't go back and change history and make Allen all of the sudden act like a professional and do what's best for the team. They have to do what's best for the team from where they are right now. That includes getting Williams out for whatever someone will give them. Because there is no guarantee that if they make him stay and play that he plays since it's clear he doesn't want to play. So you get no value from him. He will then walk after this season leaving the Redskins with a comp pick at best, which could then be cancelled by a player being signed. So the alternative to trading him is having him on the roster not playing and getting nothing for him. I wish there was a better offer, but apparently there wasn't.

edit: The screen cap was just way too big
