It's wayyyyy too early too know, but so far, so good.
Definitely a lot better than my other league, where I took CJ Spiller and Stevan Ridley in the first two rounds. I'm scrambling to reach .500
Also, I'm still in the market for Lamar Miller if you don't want him.

I'm starting to doubt a lot of the mantras...RB first, wait on QB, etc. In my other league (4pt passing TD, PPR league) I got dominated 146 to 106 by someone who got 2.7 points total from their starting RBs. 2.7 points!! You'd think if I go over 100, and my opponent's starting RBs get 2.7 points total, I'd win. Nope.

It's about weighing the dropoff in talent between top tier players and mediocre.. Taking Aaron Rodgers (at least the the past), Manning, or Brady in the first round makes sense. Blanket saying QB's are more important doesn't. You have to figure out where the drop off is at each position, and it's very different for each position. There isn't a universal rule.
Well it is PPR...that kind of skews things.

I agree with this. I had almost no chance of getting great RBs where I picked, so I got Rodgers and a top WR first. That has me competitive. Had I gone RB with my first 2 picks I believe id be in a lot worse shape. It's riskier though as on any given day a QB/WR can disappear on you far more so than a starting star RB.

Yeah you'd be in worse shape because you'd have no great RB's and the great WR's and QB's would be gone too

That's generally how I draft. However, the argument is that the dropoff of starting RBs is much steeper than any other position.

I feel like that's true from the top 2-3 to the next tier, but that next tier is deep and often not even really predictable due to rookies and injuries. I feel like that's true of almost all the positions. Give me Brady with the 8th pick over whatever RB's are available.

No position is predictable outside of the top 2 or 3.
Brady hasn't been great this year. But looking back at my draft, I'd rather have taken Megatron, Brees or Graham at 8th instead of Ray Rice. Blargh.

That's my point. Going for a sure fire QB or WR at the end of the first rounds seems like a better choice than a mediocre RB you're hoping plays well
I'm not saying take Cutler in the first round, but beyond the #4 pick I feel like a top QB/WR is very, very worthy of consideration...Lanky Livingston

Right, well the argument for RB/RB is that a starting RB is more valuable because the dropoff is steeper. For example if you can nab LeSean McCoy & Matt Forte, take Matt Stafford and Wes Welker, you're better off than if you had taken Rodgers and Megatron, and get stuck with say Darren Sproles & Lamar Miller. However, I'm starting to lean more towards your line of thinking, because the unpredictability for every position is getting wider and wider. CJ Spiller went #2 overall in several of my leagues, and I ended up with the Muscle Hamster in two leagues; both have been huge disappointments but were supposed to be clear RB1s.

Of course, I never actually won any of the leagues. Always finished 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Though I always contended it was because my players were benched during championship week because it took me 3 years to convince people that having your championship week 17 was idiotic; just like it took me 3 years to convince them that drafting after the 2nd preseason game was idiotic.
So, maybe it wasn't the winning formula in the past I thought it was
Handling the waiver wire post opening day seems to be more critical to your success than drafting to me anyways. That gets really hard when you get a 12 or 14 team league, but in a 10 team league (I normally played in 10 and 12 man leagues, it was 14 once) it's absolutely critical if you want to win money at the end.

Exactly! Last year I drafted last or next to last in our league. The Stud RB1s were all gone so I drafted Calvin Johnson in Rd 1 and then a pick or two later I drafted Gronk. I think I took DeMarco Murray in the 3rd and then in the 4th I picked Matt Ryan. Murray, of course, got hurt. I struggled with my RB slots all season long but I got to the Finals on the strength of my WRs, QB and TEs (I had gotten Reggie Wayne late because no one thought he would do anything with a rookie QB and I picked up Owen Daniel late who often started in my Flex slot then became the starter when Gronk went down for the season). It wasn't the easiest way to win and I worked the waiver wire hard every week but I went with what the draft gave me rather than trying to force some sort of system of picks into place.
