2026 Commanders Training Camp

Is it me, or does Luke appear to have short arms? Just a general observation from my eye test, it may have no merit.
Yeah, they are a little short. He is 6'2" and is arms are 30 1/8"

Practice No. 6 from Commanders Camp. Observations.

🏈 Rained off and on but the temp was pleasant. I'm sure it felt good for the guys on the field. Football weather.

🏈 First home run ball of camp for a TD. Mariota blooped a shot in to Jacoby Jones who beat a DB on a double move.

🏈 David Blough's got some Ben Johnson to him. I would not be surprised to see some of the Johnson trick plays implemented in Blough's WSH offense. Especially on 3rd down and in the red zone.

🏈 McCaffrey has elevated his game the last couple days. Winning some reps against Sainristil, who is a key DB for WSH. Good sign. Caught a TD in the back of the endzone after showing shiftiness today.

🏈 I love Jaden Bradley's size. UDFA WR out of UNLV who is 6-foot-4. Shows up in low red. Caught a TD today working on Will Harris who's been a starter in DC.

🏈 Luvu had a rep where he came flying downhill on a blitz and Sam Cosmi came over and picked him up well. Loud, violent, mid-fall caliber collision. After the play Luvu approached Cosmi and dapped him up as if to say "good work."

Not as many notes today. My family came to practice and my kids were excited to wear their burgundy and gold and try to get some autographs so I was multi-tasking a bit.

Well - we don't know, it's just forum debating. But I would argue that you are stating in a round about way that our HC and GM are idiots. They literally let a proven, capable center in his prime walk for no compensation. Maybe the plan was to get Linderbaum and they got caught when they weren't able to pull that off. But either way, if Allegretti is not an upgrade over Biadasz, it looks really bad for our decision makers.
I partially agree:

Part I disagree with: I think they FO would argue that Biadasz was not a capable center, and they wanted something better.
Part I agree with: Allegretti better be an even swap at the absolute minimum, and more likely an upgrade. I think they let Biadasz walk because they didn't think he was good enough. You don't replace not good enough with worse. That is really stupid.

I don't know if they were right about Biadasz or not. I do know I was not his biggest fan. He was oft injured, though played through it, and he got pushed around quite a bit, especially in the run game. I have no idea if the part about him not getting the line calls right is true or not. But they fired the OL coach also, so the narrative on the line play not being good enough does seem to hold.

This sounds too good to be true. Exotic on defense and some razzle dazzle cooking on offense. Hopefully, it translates to wins.
Wait until a razzle dazzle doesn't work then Blough is going to be "too cute" and he should just run 50-gut damn it.

Nice thing about coaching a cheat code like Jayden Daniels is that your odds of pulling off razzle dazzle bullshit increase a lot.

What we’ll really find out is if he has a feel for game flow and play sequencing, whether he can successfully hit teams with weird bullshit when they’re on their back foot. That’s an intangible you just have to wait and see if guys have. And that goes for his feel for regular, non-razzle dazzle playcalling too. The scheme is one thing, the actual playcalling and sequencing is another.

Literally every OC I can remember from Kyle on has been accused of being too cute by a portion of the fan base.

Now, granted, we've had some really bad OCs. Scott Turner being accused of being Too Cute was bananas to me. I found his play calling the absolute opposite of "too cute." I found it predictable and boring.

I agree with you on Blough needing to show that he has the flow of the game.

There is going to be one game this season we lose because of his play calling. It's just going to happen. I don't know when. It happened to McVay his first year calling plays. It was the MNF game against a very bad Dallas team. And he got so conservative, we lost. And he took responsibility for it, and it really didn't happen again until the SB that he lost to the Patriots, where again, he got super conservative. I'll take that for a growth trajectory any day.

It's going to happen. It's part of having a first year play caller.

McVay was really good for the rest of the season, though.

VOR is right. Half of ES thought Schottenheimer’s offense was too experimental and cute.

It was our first experience with a WCO.

I wasn’t on ES at that point, I think I joined 2004 or 2005.

But I could definitely see our fans thinking it was not what they were used to.

Even though Stephen Davis ran the ball like 7,987 times that season.

Another weird Burgold thought!

Diggs is our replacement for Ertz.

What I mean by that is Diggs superpower in New England was knowing how to work a zone and get open. He was the reliable catcher who moved the chains and the guy who knew how to pop open in the End Zone. So, while he's not tight end, he may fill that Ertz function. There has been concern that Chig is a playmaker and not a safety blanket. Well, Diggs may be that safety blanket option for Daniels.

Looking further down the depth chart, one argument I tried to make is that we had enough guys with enough traits to cobble together a functional number 2 receiver. If that was true, then it's more true at number 3. With Williams, you have that quick shifty guy who knows how to get open. With Dyami you have the speed guy. With Burks you get the size guy. With McCaffrey, actually I'm not sure what his trait is, but you get a guy who was beginning to figure out how to get open deep and make plays. With Lane, you have a screen, quick catch and go guy. So, by rotating these guys you should be able to Frankenstein a really good 3 and 4. More, if we are playing a lot of two tight end sets then it's easy to sub in the third receiver for the specific role you need them to play. Makes package creation fun and gives the young guys a way to grow by allowing them to focus on what they do best.

A quick hopefully catch and go guy. 😉
I almost put that qualifier in, but I wanted to be nice. Mind you, I don't want to get into it again, but that was what he was good at in college. Catching the short ball and taking off.

Some more camp stuff, mostly from Josh Taylor who has been to all the practices, some of it from others.

A. Daniels is on fire.

B. No WR has stood out aside from Terry and Luke

C. Sainristill has struggled

D. Croskey-Merritt looks to be pulling away in the RB competition -- Rachaad White hasn't stood out (this was if I recall Grant and David Harrison)

E. Blough's offense has a lot of the WRs throwing the ball including Antonio

F. Antonio seems to be stuck playing with the 2's

G. My own thought listening to all these guys, seems to be no buzz about Johnny Newton

H. Chaisson and Oweh and Omenihyo -- the new guys have flashed. Jospeh some, too.

I R. Douglas, best CB in camp

J. Elated that they signed Diggs, feels like he was needed.

Sainristill and Newton struggling really sucks and they need to step it up. Right now it's not a good look for AP's first draft.

We really need a healthy Amos to show up big, this will be pivotal

The WR competition just ignited!
