2025 Washington Commanders- All Things Offense

The Pro-Bowl and All Pro teams still have Fullback instead of an extra WR spot. Even though the majority of the teams haven't had a fullback in like a decade.

Btw, where are you reading the team has named the Week 1 starter? I'm not seeing any news articles on it.
I heard it on XM fantasy radio today. Didn't name a source and I think it was Jeff Mans assuming what I think is obvious at this point. At some point fantasy guys have to figure it out since some teams STILL have blanks on their depth charts. Like us.

I think i know his thought process.

After Ekeler's concussion last year I would be stunned to see him our first down back risking a bell ring running up the gut, or to see a 7th rounder listed 4th on the depth chart battling 3 vets, to get the start. Can anyone name the last time a 7th rounder from any team, a 1 year starter 2 years ago, beat out 3 healthy vets to start a game 1? So its a faster CRod with great advanced stats over his career vs McNichols, a 29 year old journeyman.

Its gotta be CRod. He got coaches praise. But yep, assumption is the mother of all fuck ups! Maybe its Bill but I just dont see how he clearly beat out CRod and have gained the coaches trust, after getting injured in preseason (seen in non contact jersey). In hockey, rookies start on the 4th line or bottom pair. Eased in. I think football folks tend to do the same.

Push back is Quinn saying CRod was his short yardage back vs naming him starter. Like most teams, we'll see a 2 or 3 headed monster.

I think our web guy went to happy hour but was supposed to have done updated our chart by now, or Quinn is fucking with the G. Which i approve of. I assume teams are supposed to release official depth charts for the media before the season starts, otherwise why would they even have one.

Terry should feast according to Rotoballers WR CB matchup chart... take it with a shot of grain grain of salt as obviously the data is a best guess since analysts dont even know the scheme the D will run most often this year. How can they know that corner TMC may face juiced up this offseason put some red bull in his corn flakes and is now in beast mode??

Pacheco is the first guy that I found that came close to being in Bill's situation. 7th rounder that played significant snaps his week 1. Maybe Christian Okoye's comeback bid failed predictably opening the door.

Could be A FUCKING EYE or a delusional fan posting crap, who knows these days, but here goes:

OC Kingsbury on attention Bill Croskey-Merritt has received: "It's been interesting. He's a guy I have a ton of respect for his journey no doubt. ... We'll see how it all goes, but it's a big hype train for old Bill."

I keep wondering if they will really have 4 RBs active on Sunday and who sits to accommodate the extra RB position.

I think history will show teams are far more likely to dress 2 backs vs 4.

4 better be flying around on teams to validate that active roster spot. Does Buffalo Bill play teams?

I think Bill is a scratch week 1 and possibly McNichols as well. We now have an emergency back in Deebo.

We’ll definitely activate 3 but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Bill have to earn it. Run the vet legs first. Bill or McNichols will be inactive imo but not both. I expect a heavy rotation but Ekeler/CRod week 1 seems like the safe bet

Its other roster spots that help decide how many backs will be active.

I'd almost swear some games had 2 active in recent years. With Ekeler's injury history I think 3 is what we will see. No way we see 4.

It’s hard not to see three.

I just don’t see them content with CRod and Ekeler. They’re e going to want some pop.

I agree. I think 2 years from now we have another 50% turnover of this roster. I think they are upgrading when and where they can based all the usual team building factors to include draft and free agency. Infuzing the roster with older vets as necessary. This organization is in the mind set of constant improvement, it just takes time. We got ahead of the time frame last year due to JD but slowly but surely they will replace older vets and jags as they build a long term core.

Who knows - I just have to wonder if McNichols won't be odd man out since they have to view Croskey-Merritt's explosiveness as a very tantalizing addition to the offense. On the other hand, I think McNichols plays a ton on Special Teams, doesn't he? That would argue you either carry 4 (unlikely - I think we only did it once in 2024) or you don't dress Bill.

I can’t see them sitting McNichols as he offers what they want in special teams and in pass blocking. I fear it might be CRod they sit. I so want him to do well. He seems like a really decent guy and he’s done everything they have asked of him without question. Easy to have walked away after being cut last year but he knuckled down and improved his game.

I feel similarly but think that if they dress 3 CRod is inactive. Like you said, McNichols is an important teams guy and as a back he is like CRod. Bill brings the ‘potential’ of something different.

They weren't sitting CRod, they need a bigger back and Eckler is too important, and too fragile, to be counted on to play that role today. I want so desperately to see a back like Gibbs here, but I'm afraid I'll have to wait a bit. He is active but JCM won't get a lot of touches IMO.

[Moved from the Free Agency thread.]

Just saying, 6'1 and 200lb guys who try hard on special teams/blocking/etcetc are usually more valued by teams than us fans. So no, I don't think he'd get cut. Also Lane and McCaffrey are viewed as different types of receivers.

It's a pity NextGenStats doesn't do Charts for every WR and only includes Targets. I'd be really curious to see how they tried to use Lane and how that shifts over time. His one catch was a short middle hitch he caught for like 5 yards turned up field for a 1st down.

For reference here's Deebo (gray routes are incompletes)

As an old guy who's still not too comfortable with all these newfangled interwebs, I appreciate your sharing the above chart, which illustrates:
  • Samuel is not expected to run polished routes that juke the defenders (just one sharp cut beyond the LOS).
  • He operates just fine in the middle of the field.
  • He is something of a freight train once he gets going.
In other words, as many here have observed, a great fit for a dynamic, accurate passer like Daniels.
