2025 Washington Commanders- All Things Offense

Heh. My favorite jersey is a Joe Jacoby. Even though I'm no o-line-sized, I kinda like sporting it just because of how important Hogs are to success and how they never get enough credit or love.

It is still INSANE to me that only one member of the Hogs are in the NFL HOF. If nothing else, they should have been inducted as a unit.

That might be taking it a bit far. He didn't do that in college at all.

And comparing ANYBODY to DJax in terms of explosive plays is probably a stretch. DJax might have been the best at that in NFL history. He's not a HOF WR because of consistency and he really couldn't do much else. But he was about the best deep ball receiver I can think of outside of Randy Moss.

I’d take Moss. But, I’d be curious to look at the stats of DJax vs Tyreek.

Most of DJax receptions were within 10 yards of the LoS. He short area burst was elite. Yeah he was a great deep ball tracker, but that's not where he made his money.

Seems we’re getting some random bot accounts on the site lately, that’s so fascinating given what a niche, relatively small place it is. There’s gotta be an algorithm just scraping the web and signing up for accounts on any random site known to man

We have a ton of anti-spam measures in place. It's honestly amazing any of them get through, but they change their approaches constantly. It's really stupid - I've never quite understood what the goal is?

They’re like cockroaches.

That must be a pain in the arse for you guys to have to deal with. I don’t often think about the effort required in keeping this site going but I and I think everyone else are truly grateful.

and they come in waves too... its like an animal testing an electric fence looking for the 'weak spots.'

Generally when they get through, it's not alone but we do our best to keep it all cleaned up. it's almost like a 'forced ad' on Youtube. I've NEVER bought any product from that advertisement because they always come at the worst time and they just piss me off.

Our first two games are Giants and Packers, and then we play the Raiders. I wonder if we don’t start Conerly, ease him in, and then start him game 3, so we aren’t just throwing him to the wolves.

I'll just echo the amount of time Boone and other staff put in to make this place run is tremendous, and I didn't realize how much goes on behind the scenes until recently. It's a lot.

And death to the bots.

I completely forgot about Tyreek Hill.

I did a quick AI check (something I now like to call half assed internet research) and here's what I found:

Yards per Reception, Career:
DJax: 17.3
Randy Moss: 15.6
Tyreek Hill: 13.9
TDs of 40+ yards
Player40+ yard TDs (career)Notes / sources
Randy Moss46Vikings’ bio: “He had 46 touchdown catches of more than 40 yards.” Vikings
DeSean Jackson39CBS Sports all-time list of most 40+ yard TDs. CBSSports.com+1
Tyreek Hill32 (documented through Sept 8, 2024)Chiefs note had him at 28 as of Oct 4, 2021; since then: 60-yd & 48-yd TDs vs BAL (2022 Wk 2), a 78-yd TD vs WAS (Dec 3, 2023), and an 80-yd TD vs JAX (Sept 8, 2024). Kansas City ChiefsMiami DolphinsESPN.comBig Cat Country

I can't vouch for this as absolutely true, it's what ChatGPT has helped me with. I'm somewhat dubious it's accurate myself. I think the YPR is correct. The TD numbers might have a margin for error.

What's so unbelievable to me is Moss didn't even approach Jerry Rice's all time receiving yards record. He's 7,000 yards away from Rice:

To put that in perspective: Terry McLaurin has career yards of 6,379 yards. So, Moss, a HOF player and MAYBE the most talented WR ever to play, was MORE than a Terry McLaurin 6 year career away from Rice. Hell, #2 on the list is almost a Terry McLaurin career away from Rice.

If anybody ever argues best WR ever is anybody other than Rice, they literally have no earthly idea what they're talking about. He lapped the field.

Ok, now that little diversion is over, back to the Commanders Offense...

Wow Micah to Green Bay! Thank you Dallas!
Way to go Dallas HFRO.gif

Though sadly we face GB in week 2....

I’m not sure how everybody else would weight this, but for me, TD over 40 yards is a way, way better measure of explosiveness than YPR. YPR is very offense dependent. And usage dependent. Also, the eye test. Give me Moss.

And Rice played in an era that was much more run heavy.

And Rice played in an era that was much more run heavy.
And CBs were allowed to take a piggy back ride down the field on top of the WR.

And yeah, I know he played with Montana and Young and with some offensive genius HCs. But literally no other WRs in the same situation came close to his production.

CRod named the week 1 starter and short yardage back.

How many more decades will we go before hands backs have their own category on depth charts. I am still stunned they added a 3rd WR within my lifetime.

The Pro-Bowl and All Pro teams still have Fullback instead of an extra WR spot. Even though the majority of the teams haven't had a fullback in like a decade.

Btw, where are you reading the team has named the Week 1 starter? I'm not seeing any news articles on it.
