Both baseball players… a football is easy when you learn to track fly balls in center.
 
I'm really excited to see how the offense looks with more explosive players around JD5.

Last year really was Terry and a bunch of dudes.

The combination of:
Terry as the WR1
Deebo as the move-around guy
Lane as a guy with a ton of speed
Noah who also has speed
Ekler who, when healthy still has a good burst and can catch out of the backfield
CRod's toughness
Bill's overall explosiveness

Should be just so much more robust than last year.

Also, the OL should be better, and Tunsil, assuming health, is a force multiplier. If you don't have to worry about protecting your LT, then you can do so many more things.

The only thing is I wish they had figured out how to get one more pass catching TE who's not slower than a sea turtle. I like Ertz, but man, dude looks like he's running in concrete. A TE who can stretch the field vertically would be a huge addition to the offense.

I don't think it will come from QB, at least not for the first month.

I think McNichols is the guy who gets bumped down to the PS for a 6th WR. The reason is it's really hard to keep 4 RBs active on gamedays.

That might be taking it a bit far. He didn't do that in college at all.

And comparing ANYBODY to DJax in terms of explosive plays is probably a stretch. DJax might have been the best at that in NFL history. He's not a HOF WR because of consistency and he really couldn't do much else. But he was about the best deep ball receiver I can think of outside of Randy Moss.

Obviously there's overlap...but you know it's not the same.

Especially with a defender on you that you need to worry about at the catch point. You can't track the ball like a baseball player if you're 5'10 and not expect a defenders arm to sneak into either the catch point or hook your elbow. You also need them to not crowd the path the ball is taking making it harder for you to contort and reach it. Especially for a 5'10 guy like DJax who did not exactly have high point ability like the 6'4 Randy Moss.

There's a whole lot of skills that are just different between the two. With football you can generally keep on your path with your momentum and trust the QB will throw to generally the right area. Your snap judgement on where the ball is going is not as necessary (unless you purposefully lead them off the ball path like DJax did and then come back under it) in football, but so much of being a Center Fielder in baseball is that initial jump to where the ball is going and that happens in random directions to where you are, unlike what a QB is supposed to do.

Tracking deep shots in Baseball and Football are vaguely similar but different skills. Believing otherwise is like claiming Usain Bolt would have been dominant in the NFL. Sprinting and being a deep threat WR have too many different things besides just running fast.

Him and Josh Johnson too (once Mariota is hopefully healthy). Thankfully part of that roster crunch won't happen for awhile because of Cosmi being on the PUP.
 
That trade actually doesn’t help us.

I didn’t see Dallas as a real threat to us but I could see the Packers and Love being a playoff opponent this year.

It would have benefited us to see Parsons stay in Dallas for the season and have to deal with this next offseason.

The OL is better but most of the guys you named were here last year. We are +Deebo +Lane +Bill and -Dyami -OZ -Crowder -BRob. We gained an extra higher end piece in Deebo but are an injury or two away from an unproven scrub like Luke and a PS guy getting meaningful snaps.

I know it’s asking a lot of him, but I have some hope for Yankoff. He’s got some of the speed, hands, and movement skills that you see from a lot of high end TEs, and Sinnot and Bates haven’t shown much on the receiving front.

He's a premier edge rusher. Pretty sure he'll make an impact day one.

Take a breath brother. At its core it’s hand eye coordination and body control. DJax and Moss both had elite top end speed and they could track a moving target.

They both played baseball as kids, not a hard stretch to say tracking a baseball helps an elite athlete track a football. So no, Usain Bolt being fast doesn’t necessarily correlate to him being an elite deep ball receiver, but if he played t-ball and little league as a kid, while he also played football as a kid, I wouldn’t be surprised that at 25 as an elite athlete he’d run by people and catch the ball under control with ease.

Precisely what Moss and DJax did… and Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders… Hell there are tons of examples of football players having elite traits derived from baseball. It’s what makes Mahommes so great.

Ok I’m board so I’ll spoon feed you… elite child athlete plays tball… “Gosh, what an athlete!”everyone says. “Line up kids, we’re taking pop flys… good job DJax, let me teach you though, take a step back first and watch it, once it starts to fall go get it.” “Damn you’re fast…Hey kid, you’re in Center” Kid’s got the knack for tracking pop flys and can run like the wind, loves sports, so he plays football too… wideout of course! Small but fast as hell!

Dual sport athlete from 6 to high school, or maybe now concentrates solely on football, but he’s a speed demon who’s been tracking flying objects since he was 6. Off to D1, still faster than everyone else, DBs not in the picture on Saturdays, easy!

Now plays on Sunday, now the fastest guy on earth after 40 yards. Got 2 steps on the best corners, glides to mere mortal NFL speed for an easy catch… hand eye coordination and speed… little league coach still smiling today… “I taught him that…”

 
I started teaching my son his route tree at 6 years old. He picked it up quickly. He was not the fastest kid on the team but he was the tallest and had the best hands. I also taught him to be like Art Monk... no dancing. When you score? Run over to the ref and hand him the ball.

I used to make him practice balls in the street with the curb. I would throw balls to him on the sideline, but with a physical barrier so he could feel it with his feet. I also used to throw crazy balls at him in the pool so he would learn how to make diving catches (without any pain). This started at 6 years old.

He played basketball and flag in the offseason. Two a days started at the end of July. At 6 years old

It paid off on the field. He was a machine on the field.

We added RB Donovan Edwards to our PS. He's fast decent size and has good hands. I bet we targeted him largely for his speed and will be a project for now. But dare I think the skill gap or potential between him and Bill, has Bill fantasy owners Norval Norvous. All things equal, a 7th and a free agent are close to a coin flip to this arm chair warrior GM.
